Karisma Kapoor replaced Juhi Chawla in this superhit film, shook Box Office with its earnings; Movie is…
You may have often heard about actors or actresses in the film industry being replaced overnight by other stars. This isn't something new; it has been happening for decades. Sometimes, it's due to scheduling conflicts or other reasons. Something similar happened almost 30 years ago, when Juhi Chawla was the first choice of the filmmakers for a particular film. She was even signed for the role, but due to unforeseen reasons, she backed out. The role eventually went to Karisma Kapoor, and the film featured Govinda as the male lead. We are talking about a 1995 comedy masala, directed by David Dhawan. It was one of the first successful movies of Karisma Kapoor. Over the years, the movie has become a cult classic and is now considered one of the greatest Hindi films ever made. The name of the film is ' Coolie No. 1 ' and the fact is also true that Dhawan first reached out to Juhi for the lead actress role. But it had to go to Karisma. In the 1990s, Govinda and Karisma Kapoor were one of the most popular on-screen pairs, delivering several superhit romantic comedies. One such iconic film was Coolie No. 1. Let's find out why Juhi opted out of the project and how much the film went on to earn at the box office. Why did Karisma Kapoor replace Juhi Chawla in Coolie No. 1? According to IMDb, producer Vashu Bhagnani and director David Dhawan initially wanted to cast Juhi Chawla as the lead actress in Coolie No. 1. At the time, Juhi was busy shooting for Ram Jaane with Shah Rukh Khan and was also committed to several other projects. Due to her packed schedule, the role eventually went to Karisma Kapoor. In the film, Kapoor played her character brilliantly, and Govinda's comedy made it even more successful. You can watch the film Coolie No. 1 for free on YouTube. What was box office collection of Coolie No.1? Coolie No. 1 , which hit theatres on 30 June 1995, was a major hit. Govinda delivered a memorable performance and the film also featured a strong supporting cast, including Kader Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Harish Kumar, Kanchan, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, and Tiku Talsania. According to Sacnilk, the film was made on a budget of Rs 3.50 crore and went on to earn Rs 21.15 crore worldwide. Dhanush slams AI-tweaked ‘Raanjhanaa' climax: Strips the film of its soul
Actor Dhanush has slammed the AI-altered climax of Ambikapathy, the Tamil-dubbed version of Raanjhanaa. On August 01, 2025, the Tamil version released with a new climax, intended to provide a 'happy ending to the story', according to the producers. 'The re-release of Raanjhanaa with an AI-altered climax has completely disturbed me,' Dhanush wrote in a statement on X. Eros Media World, the banner behind the film, said that the new climax was 'creative reimagining.' 'This is a creative reimagining, not a replacement, and is consistent with global industry practices including anniversary editions, alternate cuts, and modernised remasters,' the company's group CEO Pradeep Dwivedi said. Dhanush said he had objected to the new version. 'The alternate ending has stripped the film of its very soul, and the concerned parties went ahead with it despite my clear objection. This is not the film I committed to 12 years ago,' the actor wrote. Dhanush called for responsible use of artificial intelligence. 'The use of AI to alter films or content is a deeply concerning precedent for both art and artists. It threatens the integrity of storytelling and the legacy of cinema. I sincerely hope that stricter regulations are put in place to prevent such practices in the future.' ALSO READ: 'Raanjhanaa' re-release: Director Anand L Rai and producer at loggerheads over AI-tweaked climax Aanand L Rai said the original climax had 'heart and honesty. 'Raanjhanaa didn't need a new climax. It had heart, and honesty. It became a cult film because people connected to it with its flaws, and imperfections. To see its ending altered without a word of discussion is a gross violation not just of the film, but of the trust of the fans who've carried the film in their hearts for 12 years,' the filmmaker said. While in the original version Dhanush's character, Kundan, dies after being shot, the new version shows him survive. Kundan wakes up miraculously in the hospital, after being in ICU following the near-fatal injury. The film also stars Sonam Kapoor and Swara Bhasker in key roles.
