Notre Dame DE Jordan Botelho has suffered a pec injury that will keep him out 4 months
It hasn't been a great calendar year for Notre Dame football defensive end Jordan Botelho, and unfortunately the injury bug has hit him once again as reported by Matt Freeman.
Last fall against Purdue, the senior injured his right knee, and he was lost for the remainder of the season. While Botelho announced that he had unfinished business in South Bend and prepared for his return, but another bump in the road happened recently.
The report says that he has injured his pectoral muscle and will be out for at least four months. It's a big blow for Botelho and the Irish defensive line, as they lost more than a few talented players at the position.
However, the cupboard isn't bare, as Notre Dame has multiple players who could breakout this fall including Boubacar Traore, Loghan Thomas, and Bryce Young. Botelho's injury will allow some of the younger players to get valuable reps as the Irish look for the best combination to attack opposing offenses.

Recruiting Roundup: Why Alister Vallejo spurned Notre Dame for Michigan
The Michigan Wolverines went on an impressive run on the recruiting trail earlier in the summer, and one player who committed to the program is four-star defensive lineman Alister Vallejo. Notre Dame felt pretty good about securing a commitment from him prior to him picking Michigan. We'll talk about that decision and more in today's Recruiting Roundup. Notre Dame recruited Vallejo hard, but just like the last time the two teams met on the gridiron, the Wolverines beat the Fighting Irish. What put Michigan above Notre Dame at the end of the day was his bond with the coaching staff. 'For me, it was the relationships,' Vallejo told On3's EJ Holland ($). 'Just the relationships I had with the people there like coach (Lou) Esposito. It was the best relationship in my recruiting process. The people there — not just the people I'm going to be primarily involved with — are amazing. 'They are amazing people. Coach Moore called me before practice the other day and wanted to check up on me. He call me once a week or every other week. He's just a great guy and cares for the people around him. So does coach Esposito. He's constantly texting me and making sure I'm good. Coach Denham texts me every day as well and tells me 'go be a dawg.'' Vallejo is expected to be an impact player in the future, and the Michigan staff has even compared him to Mason Graham. 'It's awesome,' Vallejo said. 'It's a huge compliment to be compared to someone like (Graham). He was definitely brought up (by the staff).' Since committing to Michigan, Vallejo has seen his recruiting ranking rise. Some more teams are starting to recruit him — including Miami, which offered him a scholarship this summer. However, he remains happy with his decision. 'More schools have started to pick up on me and reach out,' Vallejo admitted. 'I like where I am right now. If they want to recruit me, there is nothing I can do about it.' It's always fun when Michigan gets a win against Notre Dame, and since the Fighting Irish don't want to play the Wolverines on the field, those victories have to come on the recruiting trail for now. One player to watch in the 2027 class is four-star athlete Colt Lumpris. The 6-foot-5, 210-pounder is being recruited to play tight end, but he is primarily being recruited at the moment by offensive line coach Grant Newsome. That's because the two of them share something in common. 'We've just got that connection because he's from my school,' Lumpris told On3's Ethan McDowell ($). 'He gets everything about it. We could talk about pretty much anything because he gets it all.' That connection could end up paying off for the Wolverines, and the academic prestige of the university might as well. 'I'm big on education because I go to a very high academic school,' Lumpris said. 'Also great football and just having good connections with the coaches and everyone there in general.' At the end of the day, Lumris understands there is a lot more than just football that needs to go into his college decision. 'It'll definitely come down to not just football,' Lumpris said. 'It's the connections that you have with people.' Lumpris is hoping to visit Ann Arbor when Michigan hosts Ohio State at the end of the regular season. He also holds offers from Ohio State, Ole Miss, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee and more. A massive decision is coming tomorrow, as 2026 five-star running back Savion Hiter is announcing his college decision. Michigan and Tennessee appear to be the favorites. He is the No. 1 running back in the 2026 class and a Top-10 overall player.

ESPN's FPI updates Notre Dame's chances to go undefeated and College Football Playoff odds
It's always interesting to see how a formula plays out a college football season, and ESPN's Football Power Index has been updated with new metrics for Notre Dame and other teams across the country. Starting off with how the FPI views the Irish's chances to win more than 6-games is a virtual lock, as they have a 99.9% chance to that happening this fall. Not surprising at all, but what was is the fact that Notre Dame has the best chance at going undefeated this fall, with a 7.4% chance of that happening. Only two other schools have a mark over 5%, as Texas and Penn State have solid chances of an undefeated season according to their FPI's metrics. They predict that the Irish will go 9.8-2.2 this season, which is virtually 10 wins. As for making the College Football Playoff, their formula has Notre Dame with a 55.6% chance to make the 12-team field. It's not the best, but only a few schools (Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, along with the Longhorns and Nittany Lions) have a better percentage. This means that the Irish are a virtual lock to making it for the second-consecutive season. Like their chances to make the CFP, the Irish trail the same teams to make the championship game at 12%, with a 5.4% chance of winning it all. These numbers will change over the course of the season, but as the No. 6 ranked team in the FPI, we should expect another excellent season from Notre Dame. 'I don't want to put a timeline on it': Texas A&M's Week 3 opponent still undecided at QB

Texas A&M's Week 3 road matchup against Notre Dame will either help or hurt the Aggies down the stretch of the 2025 season, but you can be sure that coach Mike Elko and every player who faced the Irish during the 2024 opener are looking to avenge the 23-13 loss in Kyle Field. Last season, Notre Dame's opening season win over A&M essentially guaranteed the program a spot in the College Football Playoff after the shocking Week 2 loss to Northern Illinois just a week later. While Elko knows that the Aggies' tough 2025 slate includes SEC road games against LSU, Arkansas, Missouri, and Texas, defeating the Irish isn't mandatory. Still, it would result in momentum heading into conference play. However, unlike last year when quarterback Riley Leonard was leading the Fighting Irish, the veteran signal caller is now with the Indianapolis Colts, and according to Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman, the quarterback competition is still an ongoing battle between CJ Carr and Kenny Minchey with no end in sight. "We gotta make a decision here soon. I don't want to put a timeline on it." Carr, who seemingly held a slight lead early in the process, is considered the better option after backing up Leonard last season, while Kenny Minchey has been with the program for the previous three seasons, and is regarded as a dual-threat option that could bolster the team's rushing efforts. Both are inexperienced, and the fact that Freeman's next media availability isn't scheduled till August 26, this provides Texas A&M coach Mike Elko, who is the team's new defensive play caller, a stark advantage when preparing to face Notre Dame's passing game, already knowing that star running back Jeremiyah Love with be Elko's primary focus. No. 21 Texas A&M will face No. 5 Notre Dame on Saturday, September 13, at 6:30 p.m. The game will air on ABC.
