Hundreds of unvetted staff in Hampshire police, report says
A police force has 362 workers who have not been properly vetted, a report has said.Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, which employs nearly 6,000 people, has been ordered to improve its vetting procedures by His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS).The cases involve existing staff whose vetting has expired or who have been promoted without higher level clearance, the report added. The force said it had recruited a further 12 staff to make checks and had "robust processes" to identify unsuitable new applicants.
At the time of the inspection, the force vetting unit did not have enough staff to meet demand, the report said.Fourteen analysts and three senior staff were working on 223 applications, with a further 462 cases pending, it added. In a review of vetting decisions on new joiners, inspectors agreed with 18 out of 25 outcomes but said some risks were not identified. The force was rated as "requires improvement" for vetting, but "adequate" for other integrity standards including challenging misconduct and tackling corruption. However, an HMICFRS review of 40 cases identified three where potential crimes were missed.
These included an officer who tested positive for drugs and one who sent misogynistic, homophobic and racist texts. Both later resigned, but the report gave no outcome for a third case involving an allegation of aggravated assault. In a statement, Acting Chief Constable Sam de Reya said she welcomed the inspection. She added: "We had already recognised and responded to the challenges around our vetting arrangements, particularly around ensuring we had sufficient resources to meet demand. "Our ambitious recruitment programme to increase the number of police officers within the force required us to also bring in more staff to carry out vetting checks."The report recognised our efforts to increase capacity within the team, and we have recruited a further 12 staff since the inspection."Importantly, our robust processes ensure that only those who are suitable for policing are able to join the force."The senior officer added that the force's internal investigations had been found to be "good", with "proportionate, consistent and fair" outcomes.

Dani Dyer is married! TV personality stuns in an off-the-shoulder gown as she ties-the-knot with Jarrod Bowen during intimate ceremony
Dani Dyer and Jarrod Bowen married during an intimate ceremony surrounded by their closest friends and family on Saturday. The TV personality, 28, stunned in an elegant off-the-shoulder gown to tie-the-knot with the West Ham captain, also 28. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Days before the ceremony, Dani opened up about the touching role her dad Danny would play in her wedding to Jarrod. Her father, beloved EastEnders star Danny Dyer, 47, will walk her down the aisle - a moment Dani says will be 'filled with emotion'. Speaking on their joint podcast, Live and Let Dyers, Dani revealed she was keeping her wedding dress a surprise from her dad until the big day to honour a special tradition. 'Have you not seen that first look when the dad sees their daughter in their dress and that? Oh, it's lovely,' she shared. 'Yeah, your dad's not meant to see it – it's a moment for the dad as well!' Dani has had a whirlwind few months, filled with two lavish hen parties and all the excitement of getting ready for her big day. Speaking to Heat magazine earlier this week, Dani said: 'I have finally done my table plans now. Until you are in there writing names out, making sure you have tables of 10, it's the most stressful experience ever - that's the only thing I've not enjoyed.' Dani also revealed she will take on a double-barrell surname after the wedding, becoming Dyer-Bowen. She said: 'I am going to keep the Dyer - I am going to do Dani Dyer-Bowen just because of my work. I feel like if I am Dani Bowen, it takes that thing away from me. We are double-barrelling it.' The wedding will undoubtedly be an emotional day for Dani's father Danny Dyer, with the reality star saying he and West Ham star Jarrod are very close. 'We've joked so many times that Jarrod is marrying the wrong Dani Dyer!' she said. The mother-of-three added she has really enjoyed the build up to the big day, which included a recent hen night in Ibiza with her pals. Sparing no expense with her lavish nuptials, the bride-to-be shared a glimpse of her wild celebrations on Instagram, which included a boozy brunch, a boat trip and a raucous night in the lavish nightclub Ushuaia. A source told The Sun that Dani really splashed the cash during her hen celebrations, including a VIP night at Ushuaia that cost at least £8,000. The insider said: 'Dani might have flown on a commercial flight but they splashed the cash when they landed. 'She spent Friday night at Ushuaia where they were on a VIP table with a minimum spend of £8,000. The next day they hired a boat to go around the coast before spending the rest of the time chilling at the Hard Rock hotel. 'Dani also had a boozy brunch at Beso Beach where her mates put on Jarrod masks and sang ABBA songs with her. 'They spent their last night at super club Hï Ibiza where they had a VIP booth. There were some sore heads when they touched down at City airport.' Meanwhile, Jarrod jetted off to Las Vegas for his stag do as he prepared to marry the Love Island star.

Trade Secretary to meet US counterpart in bid to secure steel tariff exemption
The meeting will come after Mr Trump said he was doubling tariffs on imports of steel from 25% to 50%. The UK struck a deal with Washington for import taxes on its steel to be removed weeks ago, but its implementation has not been finalised. Trade officials and negotiators are planning to speak to the US as soon as they can to understand the implications of Mr Trump's latest steel tariffs. They want to secure a timeline for the UK-US deal to be implemented as quickly as possible in the coming weeks. Jonathan Reynolds will meet US trade representative Jamieson Greer to discuss timings for the deal to be in place when both attend the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) meeting in Paris next week. Earlier this week, a federal court blocked many of the sweeping Trump tariffs imposed on imports from countries around the world, but left some in place, including those on foreign steel and aluminium. On Thursday, a federal appeals court said it was allowing Mr Trump to continue collecting import taxes for now. On Friday, Mr Trump announced he would double the tariff rate on steel to 50%, starting on June 4. A Government spokesperson said: 'The UK was the first country to secure a trade deal with the US earlier this month and we remain committed to protecting British business and jobs across key sectors, including steel. 'We are engaging with the US on the implications of the latest tariff announcement and to provide clarity for industry.' The agreement, known as the economic prosperity deal, is expected to be presented to Parliament before it comes into force.
