‘I need to know': Mum's plea for missing 17yo
The mother of missing teenager Pheobe Bishop has made a devastating plea, as she grapples with the possibility her daughter will never come home. In a video statement shared by police on Saturday, Pheobe's mum Kylie Johnson said she was enduring 'a pain no person or family should have to experience'. 'Pheobe was a beautiful, loving and kind person, and every day not knowing where she has been is devastating for us,' she said. Pheobe was last seen travelling towards Bundaberg airport on May 15, where she was scheduled to fly to Brisbane in the first leg of a trip to WA to see her boyfriend. However, she failed to board the plane and has not been seen since. 'I still hold hope that Pheobe will come home, but I have to consider the possibility that she also won't,' Ms Johnson said. 'If the worst case scenario has happened, I at least need to know where she's resting. 'I need to know where Pheobe is. 'My daughter wouldn't just disappear. Someone knows something, and as a mum I'm asking you to come forward with information.' Police launched a search of the Good Night Scrub National Park on May 23, and expanded the operation after they found evidence may have been moved from the area prior to their arrival. Some items of interest were found before the search was suspended on Wednesday after five days. More to come.

Federal Way apartment complex sees two homicides this month
Angie Agostino was hard at work with her window open Thursday afternoon. Then, an unmistakable sound rang throughout her apartment complex. 'I was sure it was a gun,' Agostino said. She called 911, and her fear was confirmed as police arrived to find the body of a 20-year-old man. In between her call and their arrival, several things felt off to Angie. Agostino says she saw a man, who she believes would have been in eyesight of the body, casually saying that someone should call 911. 'He goes kind of, like, he was just talking to a friend, not like emergent,' Agostino said. Shortly after, a woman ran from where the body was. 'She was running like you would run if you were nervous or scared. I can't tell you how I know that, it's just a feeling I got,' Agostino said. Then, there were the vehicles that were driving by the body as well, especially a van that she said looked like a homemade ice cream truck. 'Now, am I noticing this because I'm heightened or because I've never heard an ice cream truck in this neighborhood? Plus, it's Thursday, it's not summer vacation, kids are in school or at daycare, I thought it was weird,' Agostino surmises. 'Between the ice cream truck and the white car, they would have seen the victim if the victim was there, one hundred percent.' She told police and detectives everything when they got on the scene. She couldn't make out the man's nor the woman's faces but described their build. It's the second homicide at the Cove Apartments in Federal Way this May, after a domestic dispute led to the death of another person earlier this month. In a phone call with KIRO 7, Federal Way Police say it's 'surprising' for calls to come at the apartment complex, saying, outside of those deaths, there are relatively few calls to the apartment complex. Weidner Apartment Homes, the parent company of the apartment complex, did not respond to several calls or emails requesting comment Friday. Angie says she has called the police on suspicious people in the last few months. She grew up in the area and says Federal Way has changed since then, adding, 'It just seems like there's a lot more violence just in this area.'

Phoenix police officer hospitalized with broken bones after fight with suspect
A Phoenix police officer was hospitalized May 30 following an altercation in south Phoenix that left her with broken bones. The officer responded to reports of a person banging on the windows of a business near 19th and Southern avenues, scaring patrons inside, Sgt. Brian Bower, a Phoenix police spokesperson, told reporters at a news conference. The man began an "active fight" with the officer when she informed him that police were investigating the incident, Bower said. The man struck the officer in the head, and she fell to the ground, "not very responsive and bleeding," Bower said. She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Bower described the officer as "young" with six years of service in the department and said she was being treated for broken bones in her lower leg. The man was taken into custody. Neither the officer nor the man was identified by police. Lion kills man at Namibian safari lodge
Desert-adapted lions roam the remote northwest of Namibia, where mountains and sand dunes meet. (AFP pic) WINDHOEK : A lion killed a 59-year-old man at a luxury lodge in the remote northwest of Namibia, police said. The victim was camping with other tourists at the tented resort when the early morning incident happened. He was attacked when he stepped out of his tent to use the toilet, environment ministry spokesman Ndeshipanda Hamunyela told local news outlet Informante. Other campers managed to scare off the lion but the man was already dead by then, he said. Police were 'attending the scene and a full report will be submitted in due course', spokesman Elifas Kuwinga said. Desert-adapted lions roam the remote northwest of the country where mountains and sand dunes meet. In 2023, they were estimated to be around 60 adults and more than a dozen cubs. But their numbers have dipped in recent months following a drought-induced drop in prey and conflict with humans.
