Xander Zayas Vs. Jorge Garcia: Date, Time And How To Watch
Is Saturday night the coronation of boxing's next great Puerto Rican champion? We'll find out on a historic show at an iconic event when the undefeated Xander Zayas (21-0, 13 KOs) takes on Mexico's Jorge Garcia (33-4, 26 KOs) in the main event of what figures to be Top Rank Boxing's final show on ESPN.
The event takes place at The Theater in Madison Square Garden where Zayas is a perfect 7-0 and looking to remain unblemished. At stake, the two men will battle for the vacant WBO junior middleweight world championship. Here's the details you'll need to follow along.

Edgar Berlanga was originally thought to be heir apparent when it comes to Puerto Rican boxing royalty, but his career has fallen on hard times with a loss to Canelo Alvarez in 2024 and a KO loss at the hands of Hamzah Sheeraz earlier this month in New York.
With all due respect to Subriel Mattias, who just captured the WBC 135-pound title in a hard-fought battle against Alberto Puello on July 12, Zayas' popularity and star power seem to give him a higher ceiling.Zayas vs. Garcia Date, Time and How to Watch

Bruce 'Shu Shu' Carrington vs. Mateus Heita – Undercard Spotlight
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - MARCH 29: Bruce Carrington waits to make his walk to the ring for a ... More featherweight bout against Jose Enrique Vivas at BleauLive Theater at Fontainebleau Las Vegas on March 29, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Carrington won the bout with a third-round TKO. (Photo by)
'Shu Shu' Carrington has been one of the standout prospects in Top Rank's pipeline, and Saturday's co-feature gives him a massive opportunity to prove he's ready for more. The undefeated Brooklyn native will face Mateus Heita with the interim WBC featherweight title on the line—a serious jump in stakes and visibility.
Carrington's rise has been steady and highlight-worthy, but Heita's never been stopped and brings real power from Angola. If Carrington can stay sharp and deliver another signature performance, this could fast-track him into a title shot before the year ends.
The Bottom Line: Zayas vs. Garcia
Zayas' potential ascent to championship status is happening in the right fight. It would appear Garcia will be the toughest opponent Zayas has faced in his young career.
Zayas has looked confident, poised and like a business-minded young star ready to call himself a champion. Garcia has been in with some of the top fighters in the weight class and he too is hungry to raise championship gold.
If Zayas stays defensively responsible, his superior offensive gifts will land him the title he's been chasing. If he doesn't, things could get interesting and we could have a war on our hands.
If Zayas wins, he could find himself fighting in the big room at MSG. But first things first, he has to handle Garcia, and that will not be an easy task. It's Puerto Rico vs. Mexico again with a world title on the line. Stay tuned as I will have the fight night coverage.

The 'Folk Hero' is back: Veteran kicker Nick Folk signs with the Jets
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The Folk Hero is back in The Big Apple. Veteran kicker Nick Folk signed with the New York Jets on Tuesday, reuniting with the franchise for which he played for seven seasons from 2010 through 2016. The 40-year-old Folk will compete with rookie Harrison Mevis for the kicking job this season for new head coach Aaron Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. Rookie Caden Davis, who was competing with Mevis, was waived by New York earlier in the day. 'Listen, he is a very established kicker in this league,' Glenn said of Folk. 'When you go back and you look at his stats from the last couple of years, man, they've been above board. And I've said this from the beginning: Anybody that can help us win games, man, we're going to take a look at that.' Folk was nicknamed 'Folk Hero' during his first stint with the Jets for his ability to make crucial kicks, particularly during the second of New York's consecutive runs to the AFC championship game under Rex Ryan in the 2010 season. His 729 points rank second on the Jets' franchise list, trailing only Pat Leahy (1,470). In 104 games with New York, Folk was 175 of 213 on field-goal attempts (82.2%) and 204 of 206 on extra points. 'I'm happy that he chose us, all right,' Glenn said, 'to be a part of what we're trying to do.' Folk kicked the last two seasons for Tennessee, which chose to move on from him in the offseason when the Titans signed Joey Slye. Folk previously played four years for New England, where he had a career resurgence. He was a sixth-round draft pick of Dallas in 2007 out of Arizona and was selected to the Pro Bowl as a rookie. After three years with the Cowboys, he signed a free agent deal with the Jets in 2010. His 56-yard field goal that season set a franchise that has since been eclipsed. Folk booted a 32-yarder with 3 seconds left to beat Indianapolis in the AFC wild-card round. Folk signed with Tampa Bay as a free agent in 2017 and struggled with an injury before being released. He was out of football until signing with Arizona of the Alliance of American Football in 2019. In other roster moves Tuesday, the Jets signed running back Lawrance Toafili and offensive lineman Liam Fornadel and waived/injured center Gus Hartwig, who left practice Monday with a knee injury. ___ AP NFL:

Former Jets Teammate Sends Stern Warning to Aaron Rodgers
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Aaron Rodgers played the last two years with the New York Jets. In both of those years, the team underperformed and that led to the two sides parting ways this offseason. Now, the future Hall of Fame quarterback is a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Shockingly, Rodgers and the Jets will not have to wait long to face off against each other. New York and the Steelers will play in Week 1. Both sides will be out to prove something. Rodgers will want to show that the Jets made a mistake by giving up on him, while New York will be looking to prove that without him, they can get back to being a playoff-caliber contender. Read more: Chicago Bears Connected as Suitor in Micah Parsons Trade Scenario Will McDonald, one of New York's pass rushers, is hoping to sack his former quarterback. "I always wanted to sack Rodgers from when I was a little let me not say that cause as a little kid I wasn't even interested in playing football. I did watch him though, I watched him a lot," McDonald said. There could not be a clearer warning for Rodgers. He is going to be facing a team that wants to make him fail. The Jets want to defeat him and prove that they made the right decision to move away from Rodgers and bring in Justin Fields to replace him. During the 2024 NFL season, Rodgers proved that he still has good football left in him. He completed 63 percent of his pass attempts for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, while playing in all 17 games. Being able to produce those numbers one year removed from a torn Achilles was an impressive showing. The Steelers want to win a Super Bowl and they made aggressive moves to pursue that goal. Outside of signing Rodgers as a free agent, the front office went out and traded for DK Metcalf, Jalen Ramsey, and Jonnu Smith. Needless to say, Week 1 is going to be pure football entertainment. Rodgers will be going up against his former team and that former team is hoping to make him suffer through a miserable game. New York Knicks Get Major LeBron James Update
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The New York Knicks made a run all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals last season, but came up short against the Indiana Pacers. Moving forward, the franchise is focused on winning a championship. With that being said, the Knicks have come up as a potential suitor for LeBron James. As his situation with the Los Angeles Lakers seemingly continues to sour, James has been rumored to be a potential trade candidate this year or at least a free agency option next offseason. New York has been rumored as a potential fit for James down the road. More Photo byEven though the Knicks have been talked about as a potential suitor for the longtime superstar, they may be facing an uphill battle to make that happen. Read more: Report: 76ers Receive Very Concerning Joel Embiid Update CBS Sports analyst Sam Quinn took a look at New York's future as a potential James suitor. He offered an honest outlook for the team. "As of right now, New York has around $46 million in second-apron space. However, that doesn't account for the new deals we expect Mikal Bridges and Mitchell Robinson to sign between now and next summer," Quinn wrote. "If both are long-term Knicks, New York will blow past the second apron and only have a minimum to offer. If James is open to the minimum, and that's already a stretch, wouldn't he be likelier to take it in Cleveland than New York? In this scenario, the Knicks would be fighting an uphill battle." Assuming James does become a free agent next offseason, quite a few teams would have interest in him. Among those teams could be the Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, and Dallas Mavericks. There is also a chance that he could have interest in signing with whoever drafts his younger son, Bryce James, who is eligible for the 2026 NBA Draft. Read more: NBA Insider Issues Massive Lakers, LeBron James Future Prediction James is still capable of playing like one of the best players in the league. During the 2024-25 NBA season, he averaged 24.4 points per game to go along with 8.2 assists, 7.8 rebounds, and a steal. In addition, he also shot 51.3 percent from the floor and 37.6 percent from three-point range. At 40 years old, James has not talked about when he plans to retire. It's possible the 2025-26 season could be his last, but playing another year still seems to be the most likely scenario. Expect to continue hearing rumors about James and his future throughout the entire year. New York will also likely continue being connected as a possible landing spot for him next offseason.
