Ben Duckett ‘fit and available' for England's Champions Trophy campaign
England have received a timely boost with Ben Duckett declared available for the Champions Trophy.
Duckett sustained a problem in his left groin during England's 142-run thrashing to India in Ahmedabad on Wednesday to cast doubt over his involvement in the tournament, which starts next week.
It was the latest blow suffered by Brendon McCullum since he started his role as white-ball head coach at the start of 2025, but scans have cleared Duckett to feature in the Champions Trophy.
'Scans on a left groin injury have confirmed that England Men's batter Ben Duckett is fit and available for the ICC Champions Trophy,' a statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board read.
'Duckett sustained the injury while fielding during the first innings of England's third ODI defeat to India in Ahmedabad last Wednesday.'
England are set to arrive in Pakistan for the Champions Trophy on Tuesday before they begin their campaign against Australia in Lahore on Saturday.
New white-ball head coach McCullum watched England suffer a 3-0 defeat to India in his maiden ODI series, while all-rounder Jacob Bethell was ruled out of the Champions Trophy with a hamstring issue and has since been replaced by Tom Banton.

The Formula One calendar for the 2026 season has been confirmed in an announcement released by the organisation on Tuesday morning. It will see another 24-race campaign take place, but with one fan-favourite Grand Prix nowhere to be seen on the list. Elsewhere, the Canadian Grand Prix will be moved to an earlier slot on the penultimate weekend of May as the FIA implements further 'improvements to the geographical flow of races' - meaning it will follow the race in Miami. That paves the way for an expanded European run of races, beginning with the Monaco Grand Prix on the first weekend of June and culminating with the new race in the Spanish capital. However, some fans were dismayed to learn that the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix - held at the historic Imola circuit in San Marino - had been omitted. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one user wrote: 'Woke up to the worst news ever. imola GP, you will be deeply missed'. A second lamented: 'We lost Imola to add another street circuit and five million years more of Miami GP'. Another remarked: 'it's very sad & disappointing that Imola is not on the calendar'. A further comment questioned: 'A country can't have more than one Grand Prix, so no Imola, but here you go with two races in Spain and three in the United States'. With Ramadan taking place throughout February and March in 2026, both the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix will be held in April. Following the new race in Madrid, the sport will return to Asia for the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grands Prix, prior to three successive races in the Americas, before Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi close out the season. Wests Tigers CEO Shane Richardson believes Taylan May 'deserves a second chance' in the NRL, after signing the outside back on a train-and-trial deal. The Tigers on Tuesday formally won the race for May's signature, with the Samoan international agreeing to a deal for the rest of this season. The contract is May's first since he was released from Penrith last season, after the Panthers attempted to rip up his contract following a number of off-field indiscretions. The 23-year-old also had domestic violence charges against him dropped in March, after his wife who had accused him of punching did not show up in court. May had pleaded not guilty to the charges and has since spent time in a mental health facility undergoing treatment. The former Panther will not be able to immediately return to the field, with the NRL only conditionally approving his comeback. In a statement on Tuesday, the Tigers said training and off-field standards needed to be met before May could play again. 'Taylan, like all our players, will be joining a club which has a culture of putting healthy relationships first,' CEO Shane Richardson said. 'Taylan has made enormous strides since we first met with him 10 weeks ago through voluntarily attending education and counselling sessions. 'All players deserve a second chance and we think this is the environment which gives him the best chance of success both on and off the field.' May's move to the Tigers came after he had met with South Sydney coach Wayne Bennett and toured the club's Heffron Park facilities. But the Tigers signing will allow him to play alongside his brother Terrell, with the duo and older brother Tyrone May all keen to one day play together. 'Clearly, Taylan is a quality player who will further strengthen our squad in the back end of the competition,' Richardson said. 'But we also believe his best chance of success on and off the field is if he is around family and friends. 'He will now have the chance to not only return to a team environment but also to play alongside his brother Terrell – which is important to him.'
