Brooklyn Beckham should take a leaf out of my book – my famous mum and footballer dad don't speak to me & I've never been happier

The Sun09-05-2025
MIA Winward was "heartbroken" when she was first cut off by her former Premier League footballer dad and her ex-Emmerdale actress mum over their fury at her selling X-rated content on OnlyFans.
And as news broke this week that David and Victoria Beckham were feuding with their son Brooklyn, the trauma of the family fall out all came flooding back to Mia - and she has some sage words of advice for the Beckhams ' eldest son.

Mia, 19, has vowed to never even send her parents, David Dunn and Sammy Winward, as much as a text message ever again - after they said they were turning their backs on her forever.
And now Mia - who claims her mum Sammy is jealous of her - says Brooklyn, who recently snubbed his dad's 50th birthday party over his younger brother Romeo's new romance with his ex, Kim Turnball, should blow the final whistle on his relationship with his parents.
She says: "At the end of the day, Brooklyn is losing his parents in the midst of his family fallout. It's going to be hard for him - and I understand how angry he must be - I've been there.
"When I first fell out with my famous mum and dad, I was angry at the fact that they could fall out with me to that extent."
Mia previously revealed her Emmerdale star mum Sammy had cut ties with her over her career choice.
She told us: "She said some pretty mean things when we did last speak, it was awful.
'But I absolutely love my mum, I love all of my family but none of them speak to me now."
And Mia claimed dad David is so against her racy job he branded her a "w***e".
She added: "I tried to reconnect with my dad and he called me a w***e on the phone."
Mia's own experience means she can understand what Brooklyn is going through.
She said: "I don't see how any parent could ever cut off their own child - parents are supposed to parent."
Mia has insisted Sammy is "jealous" of her success and the money she's earning after she raked in £100,000 in just one month.
She said: "I think she's got some animosity towards me. I think she is maybe just jealous about me doing so well and so quickly.
'I think that's what my parents issue is really. They think I've done it off their backs, but actually, behind the scenes, it takes a lot more work than just being their daughter."
Mia now thinks Brooklyn needs to think hard about reconnecting with his parents, continuing: "I don't know why they have fallen out, but I think Brooklyn should just have a think about whether his parents actually add to his life.
"I had to be that selfish.
"I had to think: 'Right, 'Do my parents fit into my life?' Rather than, 'Can I fit into my parents' lives?'
"Because it's my life at the end of the day - and it's Brooklyn's life too.
"As kids, we shouldn't have to sacrifice who we are to please our folks -or be scared of upsetting them. My parents didn't like what I do - but is it really so bad they would stop talking to me? I cannot understand it.
"Like I've had to, Brooklyn should focus on himself now. If things change in the future, so be it."
Mia claimed she initially tried to fix things with her parents but was met with silence.
She said: "I'm completely fully cut off and they want any sort of contact, which is really big shame because I thought I'd be the bigger person in the whole situation."
And Mia is now leaving it to Sammy and David to reach out, adding: "I wouldn't personally regain contact with mine - I won't be sending any texts any time soon.
Uncomfortable feeling
Speculating over what could have caused the Beckham feud, she continued: "I truly cannot understand what could have happened that mean Brooklyn doesn't want to go to any family events. It's really sad.
"Even I would be sad if I missed my dad's 50th birthday. It's a big thing.
"But at the same time, if that experience was going to make him and Nicola unhappy or uncomfortable - or if people were going to gang up on them, I understand why it's a hard no.
"My advice to Brooklyn is: Your life if your own - don't ever put yourself in a situation where you're going to feel uncomfortable.
"Just because it's your family it doesn't mean you have to sacrifice yourself.
"Blood isn't family. Your true family are those who stay by your side through thick and thin.
"If there's a situation that's getting you down, pulling you back, not letting you grow completely to your full potential, then you should step away from it.
"I've not spoken to my parents in a year now.
"But it's good for me - I'm having a very fulfilling life with loads of amazing people around me.
"If Brooklyn's family is that for him, then that's amazing: he should reconcile with them.
"But if it's not then he should move on, and live his own life to the fullest - he's got his name and a huge platform. He can use it like I did.
Under the microscope
"With a family that is in the spotlight, you do get backlash if you do absolutely anything.
17
17
"My mum always told me that being in the spotlight is not good, that it's detrimental to your health.
"But everyone I've met in the industry, I love.
"My mum made me think of fame as such a negative space that when I did go out into the whole social world, I thought, 'There's so many upsides to this.'
"I quickly realised I could start my own business, make my own money - and all I needed was an Instagram account.
I can make my own business. I can make my own money by myself through an Instagram that all I need is followers for.
"My mum did photoshoots when I was a baby, but throughout my life I wasn't allowed to be shown on socials.
"I wasn't allowed to be photographed until I was about 15 or 16 years old.
"So, obviously from that, you get excited and then you see everything that you can do and you're like, obviously I'm going to do that so I can be independent.
"It gave me a new found sense of freedom.
"So if Brooklyn wants the pressure off, then cutting ties is one way to do it.
17
17
17
"I can't control my parents' reaction to my job - and they can't control me anymore.
"I'm fulfilled now. I've got my little puppy and I'm happy. Brooklyn could be, too.

"Honestly, I feel much better for it. More energy, more focus, better sleep. And I'd like to think it's even helped my golf game a bit too," he said. "This isn't me telling anyone what to do. It's just something that's worked for me, and I wanted to mark the moment. One year alcohol-free, and who knows where this journey takes me."

Lucy Mecklenburgh and Ryan Thomas reveal they're sleeping in separate beds after eight years together

LUCY Mecklenburgh and Ryan Thomas revealed they sleep in separate bedrooms after eight years together. The couple - who share two children together, son Roman, five, and daughter Lilah, three - opened up about their sleeping arrangements. 3 3 Lucy, who got engaged to Ryan in 2019, admitted she struggles to get decent shut eye thanks to her partner being a "nightmare sleeper". She made the confession on the At Home With The Thomas Brothers podcast, joining her fiance and his two brothers for the latest episode. Lucy explained: "Basically we sleep in separate bedrooms because Ryan is a nightmare sleeper." His brother Adam joked: "He's always trying it on with me," while their sibling and Love Island star Scott quipped: "He always wants a cuddle." They were all left in hysterics, with mum-of-two Lucy saying: "I mean that is annoying..." She continued: "Basically Ryan snores, he sleep talks, he whacks me in his sleep." Ryan cheekily replied: "I weren't asleep darling," leaving them in fits of giggles. TV personality Lucy then explained the reason behind their decision to sleep separately. She said: 'It's just to get a good night's sleep. And that's just become normal now. But sometimes I do sleep with Roman.' When they asked Adam if he and wife Caroline have ever slept apart, the ex Emmerdale star admitted he "couldn't imagine" not sleeping in a bed with his wife. Inside Lucy Mecklenburgh and Ryan Thomas's family trip to Disneyland Paris Although some couples believe sleeping in the same bedroom is important for their relationship, a number of celebrities disagree. Vicky Pattison and her new husband Ercan Ramadan revealed they don't always sleep in the same bedroom together. Joe Swash also confessed that he and Stacey Solomon sleep in different rooms thanks to his busy schedule. Even Richard Madeley and wife Judy Finnigan sleep separately when he has to appear on Good Morning Britain the next day. Speaking to Kate Thornton on her White Wine Question Time podcast, he said: "When I'm doing Good Morning Britain I sleep in the spare room. "I do probably sleep a little bit better in bed with Judy but I'm okay on my own. On the notion of disrupting Judy's rest, he quipped: "I wouldn't think of doing that to Judy. "Apart from anything else, Judy and her sleep, you do not mess with." While comedian Katherine Ryan revealed she doesn't share a bed with her husband – and instead sleeps "like a dog'" at the foot of my kid's bed. EMOTIONAL MOVE In February, Lucy said an emotional goodbye to her home of 11 years. The star shared a video of her packing up her London home after moving to Manchester with Ryan and their children. But as she packed away her things, Lucy shared that she struggled with the memories of the house, which was her first home after moving away from her parents and first renovation. Calling the move 'one of the most emotional weeks of her life' she told her followers: 'I really didn't expect to get so emotional, but I moved out of my home 11 years this week, that's how we spent half term.' 'It was such mixed emotions, because we outgrew this house so long ago,' she continued. 'We've made the big move to Manchester, and we're really happy, but there's so many memories I've hung on to in this house. 'I went from being single, it was my first big renovation project, it was my first real home since moving out my parents, I guess, and I bought both my babies back from hospital here.' 3

Kate releases second film highlighting the beauty of 'Mother Nature' - inspired by the solace she took from the countryside during her cancer journey

The Princess of Wales has released the second of her quarterly films highlighting the beauty of 'Mother Nature', inspired by the solace she took from the countryside during her cancer journey. 'Summer' was filmed in the UK over the last few months and includes: Sheffield, Bradford, North Wales and Anglesey and the south coast of England. And while it doesn't feature the princess visually, Catherine does provide the voice over for the film, which was released on Kensington Palace social media channels. A written message, also by the royal, said: 'Our lives flourish when we cherish the bonds of love and friendship. It has never been more important to appreciate the value of one another, and of Mother Nature. Here's to Summer. C'. The series launched in Spring to huge public interest as a celebration of the changing seasons across the UK, and a 'reminder and reflection of the beauty and complexity of the human experience'. Kensington Palace said today that the new summer episode 'remains rooted in nature but also captures meaningful human interactions and embraces the joy of connection'. It features a group of ballet dancers in the film, students from The Royal Ballet School, filmed in Richmond Park. Each of the dancers featured also performed in the princess' Carol Service in 2024. Catherine says: 'Summer is a season for abundance. Just as the flowers bloom and the fruits ripen, we too are reminded of our own potential for growth. It is the time to ignite our inner fire and explore our own creativity, passions, and dreams. 'As we bask in the sunlit hours, friends and families come together; playing, connecting, being present. Embracing the joy to be found in even the most fleeting of moments and shared experiences._ 'Our lives flourish when we cherish the bonds of love and friendship. 'So open your hearts; sing, dance, play. 'The days are still long, so simply love, and be loved.' In May, the Princess of Wales turned her hand to film again, and personally launched a video revealing how she embraced 'the healing power of nature' during her cancer treatment. The series, which will be released on Kensington Palace's social media channels, began today with 'Spring', a three-minute film narrated by Catherine and including footage of her and Prince William on the Isle of Mull earlier this month. The other three short films will be released across the course of the year, with Summer, Autumn and Winter editions in due course. Referring to how she sought comfort and strength from being outdoors with her family during her cancer battle last year, she says: 'Over the past year, nature has been my sanctuary. 'The natural world's capacity to inspire us, to nurture us and help us heal and grow is boundless and has been understood for generations. 'It is through nature, that we can fully understand the true interconnectedness of all things, the importance of balance and the importance of renewal and resilience. Connecting to nature helps us to experience a deeper sense of ourselves, the world around us, and each other.' She adds: 'Spring is a season of rebirth, of hope and new beginnings. From the dark days of winter, the outside world quietly awakens with new life, and there comes a sense of optimism, anticipation, and positive, hopeful change. 'Just as nature revives and renews so too can we. Let us reconnect to nature and celebrate a new dawn within our hearts. 'It is often from the smallest of seeds that the greatest change can happen, and in this ever-growing complex world, we need to hold on to what connects us all. Spring is here, so let's make the most of it together.' The princess also makes clear how much she hopes that her message will provide an antidote to the 'increasingly complex and digital world'. Signing off the post with 'C' - a sign that it personally comes from her - Catherine writes: 'This year's Mental Health Awareness Week, we are celebrating humanity's longstanding connection to nature, and its capacity to inspire us and help us to heal and grow in mind, body and spirit. 'As we confront the challenges of an increasingly complex and digital world, the importance of the connection between humanity and nature takes on even more significance. 'The Mother Nature series is a reminder and reflection of the beauty and complexity of the human experience. It is a tribute to the lessons we can learn from nature, helping us to foster our own growth, strengthen our bonds with the world around us and each other.' 'Mother Nature' is described as a 'celebration of the raw, untamed beauty of the changing seasons across the UK'. Her husband, William, has previously campaigned to get the social media giants to take more responsibility for their platforms and spoken of his concern that an entire generation is growing up on their phones. The launch of the series coincides with the start of Mental Health Awareness Week, which begins today. Sources say it is being 'spearheaded' by the princess and will highlight humanity's longstanding connection to nature, as well as nature's capacity to inspire us and help us to heal and grow in mind, body and spirit. Growing up in the countryside, the future queen has always enjoyed promoting the healing power of nature. Indeed she worked closely on a Back to Nature garden at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2019, and has used her longtime relationship with the Scouts to focus on enabling children and young people to experience the outdoors and natural world. It has also been a theme of her charitable work – engaging with children in nature through the Natural History Museum and seeing the benefit that nature has for children and their families receiving hospice care at East Anglia's Children's Hospices and more recently, Ty Hafan in Wales. It is understood that the Princess of Wales is keen to spotlight the beauty of the changing seasons in the UK, and in doing so aiming to remind everyone just how much good can be done by spending time in nature – wherever they live in the country.
