Jay Leno, Sen. Shannon Grove cruise CA Capitol for classic car smog exemption

Comedian and car aficionado Jay Leno drove state Sen. Shannon Grove, R-Bakersfield, in a 1976 Pontiac Trans-Am past the state Capitol on Tuesday, rallying support for legislation that would ease restrictions on classic cars.
Grove's proposal, Senate Bill 712 — dubbed Leno's Law — would exempt vehicles 35 years or older from California's smog check program. The bill has attracted bipartisan support, including from Senate Transportation Committee Chair Sen. Dave Cortese, D-San Jose, who co-authored the measure.
Grove and Leno were joined by dozens of classic car enthusiasts, who displayed their vehicles along 10th Street, to highlight the proposed exemption ahead of the bill's hearing.
'I try to be the typical California enthusiast during the week,' Leno said during a news conference on the Capitol steps. 'We try to do things the right way, but it's just hard when you have a vehicle that's not modified in any way. I hope you get behind us on this bill and at least make us equal to our neighboring states.'

Dropbox CEO Drew Houston's favorite books on business and management include these 4 must-reads

Dropbox's CEO reads a lot of business books but credits four with making him a better business leader. Drew Houston cofounded Dropbox in 2007 and has been CEO since. In the nearly 20 years he's been at the helm of the cloud storage company, a few books have been instrumental in shaping his approach to business leadership and management, he says. He was influenced by "a lot of the classics," he said during an episode of Fortune's "Leadership Next" podcast released Wednesday. One of his favorites is "The Effective Executive" by Peter Drucker. Though first published in 1966, the book shares timeless insights that have landed it a spot on many business leaders' must-read lists, including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. When Bezos was still CEO, "The Effective Executive" was one of three books he required members of his senior management team to read. Drucker is widely considered the founder of modern management. "The Effective Executive" covers topics including time management, effective decision-making, and management via objectives and goals. Houston also loves a few books from Andy Grove, the late former CEO of Intel, specifically "High Output Management" and "Only the Paranoid Survive." The former imparts lessons from Grove's tenure at Intel on how to build and run a business. The latter digs into navigating what Grove calls "Strategic Inflection Points," which he defines as key moments where a business has to make major adjustments or risk becoming obsolete. Houston says these books taught him about "the mindsets you need to cultivate while being CEO or having any other demanding job." "A lot of leadership is really who you are and how you enter the field you create around you," he said. Houston also recommended "The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership," by Jim Dethmer, Diana Chapman, and Kaley Warner Klemp. It "was really instrumental in helping me with some of the things that you don't learn from sort of a textbook, around how to lead a company, how to navigate adversity, how to be the kind of person other people want to follow," he said.

BMW Charity Pro-Am raises over $16 million for S.C. charities

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) — At the BMW Charity Pro-Am golf tournament, their mission is all about giving back to local charities. For 25 years, the BMW Charity Pro-Am has been in 'full swing,' bringing a fun tournament to the Upstate while raising money for charities across the state. 'Oh, they love it,' Jeff Morris, Executive Director of Folds of Honor for the Palmetto State also said. 'They are calling me as soon as we are finished,' Chrystal Assadzandi, Charity and Volunteer Coordinator for the BMW Charity Pro-Am, said. 'I get a lot of calls saying 'how can we participate? How can we be a part?'' In 2001, the tournament was created to showcase the beauty of the South Carolina Upstate, while bringing locals, celebrities, and professional golfers together. It's aimed to raise money and awareness for South Carolina charities. One of those charities that has been impacted is Folds of Honor. 'I have had many veterans come up to me and they are so grateful to have the opportunity to come watch a golf tournament, come into the hospitality suite, interact with other veterans,' Morris said. 'It is amazing when you hear them, and they just go in there and they swap stories.' Morris said since Folds of Honor's involvement with the BMW Charity Pro-Am began in 2018, their group has been awarded around $250,000. The charity offers educational scholarships to the children and spouses of military and first responders. Funding for Folds of Honor, along with the more than 50 charities involved in this year's tournament, is raised in many ways, including through donations, ticket sales, and volunteer programs. BMW leaders said hundreds of charities have been impacted through this tournament over the past 25 years, and the money raised for them has not slowed down. 'We have given back in the past 25 years over $16 million to charities right here in the Upstate,' Assadzandi said. The BMW Charity Pro-Am will run through Sunday, June 8. For the final two days of the tournament, it's being held at the Thornblade Club in Greenville. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
