Paramount to release 'Angry Birds Movie 3' in 2027
Listen to article
Paramount Pictures has officially added a third installment of the 'Angry Birds Movie' to its release schedule, set to hit theaters on January 29, 2027.
This announcement comes as the studio takes over distribution duties from Sony Pictures, which released the original 2016 film, grossing $352 million worldwide. The sequel, which arrived in 2019, earned $152.2 million, but the series has continued to maintain a strong streaming presence in recent years.
The film, which will once again feature the animation team from Rovio Animation, will be produced by Rovio, with Sega, which acquired Rovio and the "Angry Birds" brand in 2023, also on board as producers. Sega has partnered with Paramount on the successful "Sonic the Hedgehog" films. Additional production is handled by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with Flywheel Media, One Cool Group, and Dentsu. DNEG, the animation studio behind hits like 'The Garfield Movie' and 'Nimona,' will provide animation for the film.
Several voice cast members from the previous films will reprise their roles, including Jason Sudeikis (Red), Josh Gad (Chuck), Rachel Bloom (Silver), and Danny McBride (Bomb). New additions to the cast include Emma Myers, Keke Palmer, Tim Robinson, Lily James, Marcello Hernandez, Walker Scobell, Sam Richardson, and Nikki Glaser.
John Rice, director of the first "Angry Birds Movie," returns to helm the new film, based on a screenplay by Thurop Van Orman, who directed the sequel. The third installment of the franchise comes as video game adaptations continue to thrive at the global box office. Paramount has also seen success with the 'Sonic the Hedgehog' series, with the third movie grossing $491 million worldwide.
The release of the new "Angry Birds" film follows closely behind major video game adaptations like 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie', which grossed $1.36 billion globally, and Warner Bros.' upcoming 'Minecraft Movie', which delivered a $313 million global opening weekend.

Tom Cruise sets Guinness World Record for 16 burning parachute jumps in ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning'
Tom Cruise has officially earned a Guinness World Record after completing 16 burning parachute jumps while filming Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The record-setting feat occurred while shooting the climactic plane sequence of the film, with Cruise voluntarily jumping through the air as his parachute caught fire, not once, but 16 times. Paramount celebrated the achievement with a behind-the-scenes video showing the daring stunt in action. Before one of the jumps, Cruise explained the risk involved: 'If this is twisted while it's burning, I'm going to be spinning and burnt. I have to kick out of the twist and then ignite in 10 seconds. We're going to be real smart. I'm not saying be risky. We don't take risks, obviously.' This latest record is Cruise's second. He was awarded the Guinness World Record for 'Most consecutive $100-million-grossing movies (actor)' between the period of 2012 and 2018. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning opened over Memorial Day Weekend, debuting to a record-setting $200 million and climbing to $360 million globally. Cruise expressed gratitude, writing: 'This weekend was one for the history books! Congratulations and thank you to every filmmaker... and most of all, THANK YOU to audiences everywhere.' Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is now showing in cinemas worldwide.

Lilo & Stitch' tops North America box office again
Film raked in more than six times its budget. PHOTO: File Disney's family-friendly Lilo & Stitch, a live-action remake of the 2002 animated film, won the North American box office for a second week in a row, taking in another $63 million, industry estimates showed Sunday. So far, its worldwide take is at a whopping $610 million, Exhibitor Relations said. Maia Kealoha (as Lilo), Hannah Waddingham, Courtney B Vance and Zach Galifianakis star, while Chris Sanders again provides the voice of the chaos-creating blue alien Stitch. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning – the latest, and ostensibly last, in the hugely successful Tom Cruise spy thriller series based on a 1960s TV show – took second place with $27.3 million in the United States and Canada. The Paramount film has made another $231 million overseas, which should help offset its massive production budget, reportedly at $400 million. Debuting in a disappointing third place was Sony's Karate Kid: Legends, a sequel featuring Ralph Macchio – – the star of the original 1984 classic – – and action flick icon Jackie Chan, along with Ben Wang in the title role. It made $21 million at the domestic box office and another $26 million overseas. "Legends is trying to invigorate the story with a new Kid – – again – – but business is not strong," said David A Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research. In fourth place was Warner Bros and New Line's horror film Final Destination: Bloodlines, at $10.8 million. And another horror film, Bring Her Back, debuted in fifth place with $7.1 million. "This is a very good opening for an original horror movie that cost only $4.5 million to make," said Gross. Rounding out the top 10 were: Sinners ($5.2 million), Thunderbolts ($4.8 million), Friendship ($2.6 million), The Last Rodeo ($2.1 million) and J-Hope Hope on the Stage – live tour broadcast ($940,000). afp
