Most experts believe that Hitler shot himself in the temple after swallowing cyanide.
However, statements and testimonies released from Russian secret service vaults highlight an extraordinary account that Hitler was instead shot dead in his bunker by his valet.
The documents appear to confirm that Police Lieutenant-General Hans Rattenhuber testified that senior valet Heinz Linge fired a shot into the German leader's head.
Linge was reportedly the first to enter the room after Hitler's suicide, and helped carry and burn the corpse with Günsche and others.

Rattenhuber - head of the führer's personal security - told the Soviet officials: "Doubting the effect of the poison due to the numerous injections which for a long time had been administered to him daily, Hitler ordered Linge to shoot him after he took the poison. Linge shot Hitler.'
Rattenhuber's testimony made several rounds in the West during the Cold War era, but was suspected of being Soviet misinformation.
And it was completely contradicted by Linge's own testimony to the Soviets, which speaks definitely of Hitler's 'suicide'.
Linge revealed a 'deluded' Hitler killed himself partly because he was 'afraid' of being 'caught while trying to escape from Berlin'.

A Russian archivist appeared on video going over Linge's account, which even details the clothes Hitler and Eva Braun wore when they killed themselves.
He said: 'Testimony about Hitler's reasons for taking his own life - he believed it was utterly pointless to continue the fight.

'He was afraid of being caught while trying to escape from Berlin.
'There was also his severe physical condition, which was beyond doubt, as well as his delusions of grandeur, which would not allow him to bow to the victor or enter into negotiations with him.'
Morbid footage also showed Hitler's teeth, which were used to identify him.
Intriguing new details, including how the Soviets pressured Otto Günsche - Hitler's personal assistant - into opening up about Hitler's death were also recalled

After the war, Günsche was flown to Moscow with other Hitler associates.
The documents show that a German POW and war criminal, Colonel Remlinger was put in a cell with him and instructed by the Soviet authorities to convince him to cooperate.

It was a cunning way of using Hitler's suicide to turn the Nazi's fanatical loyalty into cooperation by reinterpreting his 'oath'.
Remlinger wrote a report that 'we convinced him that the events in Germany—especially Hitler's suicide—freed him from his oath to the Führer.

'Now, with the complete collapse of Germany and the Nazi system, there was no longer any reason to hide the events that unfolded in the Führer's headquarters from the Russians—it was now only of historical interest.
'It became easier to persuade him when it emerged that some of Hitler's close associates (Göring, Himmler) had abandoned him and turned to the Western powers.'
More documents reveal the examination of Hitler's teeth to verify his corpse.
The FSB account reads: 'On 5 May 1945, in the garden of the Reich Chancellery, SMERSH officers from the 79th Rifle Corps of the 3rd Shock Army, 1st Belorussian Front, discovered the heavily charred corpses of a man and a woman in a bomb crater."

'The bodies lay about 3 metres from the entrance to the bunker and were covered with soil.
'By 8 May 1945, a forensic report on the man's corpse—presumably Hitler—was completed.'

Spy files held in the archives of the CIA and the FBI unearthed by The Sun Online show the stunning leads pursued with very real fear that
Historians now know the maniacal Nazi boss died when he shot himself as the allies bore down on Berlin during the final days of World War 2 in 1945.
But in the confusion as the map was carved up between the West and the Soviet Union - a massive probe by spooks from the US and UK was opened into the fate of Hitler.

The force is currently training drivers, which is why they have been seen driving around London. A spokesperson said: 'These are specialist armoured vehicles used for high-risk armed policing operations, by officers deployed at airports and as a contingency option for use in the most serious public disorder the like of which we thankfully rarely see." This week, masked yobs lobbed petrol bombs and fireworks at cops across four days of chaos across Northern Ireland. Police described the riots as "racially-motivated hate attacks" with a senior officer slamming the scenes as "racist thuggery". Girl 'whose sex assault by teen boys' sparked 'racist' riots wants violence to end as 4th night of carnage erupts By Emily Jane Davies A YOUNG girl whose sexual assault by teenage boys sparked riots across Northern Ireland has called for an end to the violence. Northern Ireland Police Chief Jon Boutcher said the girl had been "further traumatised" by the riots - as the fourth night of chaos unfolded yesterday. Police quickly clamped down on hundreds of rioters who were spotted throwing missiles and petrol bombs in Portadown - less than an hour from where the riots started - last night. Shocking footage showed thugs lobbing live fireworks at rows of police riot vans. The chaos began in Ballymena on Monday night, hours after two 14-year-old boys appeared in court charged with attempted rape of a girl. The boys confirmed their names - which cannot be reported - and their ages through a Romanian interpreter at Coleraine Magistrates' Court. Cops decried the mass carnage which followed as "racist thuggery". Northern Ireland's Chief Constable told how the girl's family had been left "mortified" by the horrific scenes. Speaking yesterday, he said: "I reiterate the retraumatising of this poor girl, she's been through enough through what happened to her on Saturday evening. She doesn't want any of this. "I know the family are mortified. I've spoken to them personally, they've asked me to make this plea.# "This girl's family and this girl want it to end. Our communities want it to end. We need it to end. "Stop this violence. We will come after you. We will arrest you. We will prosecute you successfully. "I want to specifically mention the 41 police officers who've been injured. Each of those officers have put themselves in harm's way to protect our communities. "It is not in any way a way for a civilised society to behave and it must stop now." Ukraine receive 1,200 bodies from Russia in prisoner swap
Ukraine has said it has received 1,200 unidentified bodies from Russia as part of an agreement reached at peace talks in Istanbul. "The bodies of 1,200 deceased persons were returned to Ukraine," said Ukraine's headquarters for the treatment of POWs. "According to the Russian side, the bodies belong to Ukrainian citizens, including military personnel." Moscow said last week it would unilaterally hand to Ukraine the bodies of 6,000 killed soldiers in total, in what Kyiv said would be an "exchange". The agreement had appeared in doubt earlier this week after Russia accused Ukraine of not coming to collect the first set of bodies and Kyiv said Moscow was playing a "dirty, political game". Earlier this week, Russia said it handed over the bodies of 1,212 killed soldiers in the first stage of the arrangement. The deals to hand over killed soldiers and exchange captured soldiers are the only agreements to have come out of two rounds of peace talks in Istanbul. Russia has rejected calls to halt its three-year invasion and demanded Ukraine cede even more territory and renounce Western military support if it wants peace.
