A perk of playing with 49ers' Trent Williams? Rides in his Gulfstream jet

The San Francisco 49ers ' All-Pro left tackle with career earnings of more than $200 million said Thursday that rookie defensive tackle Mykel Williams recently asked Williams if he could use his plane for a trip to Cabo San Lucas. Is that a typical request from teammates?
'Yeah, they ask a lot,' Williams said, smiling. 'It's probably one of the most frequently asked questions.'
Williams, 37, said on the 'I Am Athlete' podcast in 2022 that he bought his jet for 'a little more than $3 million.' Williams employs a pilot and his plane features the logo of his SBG company (for Silverback Gorilla, his nickname), which produces a line of apparel. Williams also owns multiple Ferraris.

'He's larger than life,' tight end George Kittle said last year. 'He has a silverback gorilla tatted on his back and it's on his private jet. It's Trent Williams.'
Williams is an 11-time Pro Bowl selection who has become a businessman during his 16-season career. He's had successful real-estate ventures in Texas and his off-field education has included mastering parts of the tax code. Williams received a credit of more than $1 million after buying his jet due to the Section 179 Deduction, which provides businesses with significant deductions for purchases of heavy machinery that weighs more than 6,000 pounds.

Williams has typically traveled to training camp in his Gulfstream, giving rookie offensive lineman Jason Poe a ride in 2022. As far as another rookie, Mykel Williams, wanting to borrow his bird? Williams and Williams ended up making the trip to Mexico together.
'Mykel told me he was going to Cabo (and) he had asked to use my plane,' Williams said. 'And I was like, 'I'm actually going to be out there at the same time.' So he came over to the house and we kicked it a few times.'

49ers key Day 3 draft pick shines in first training camp practice with pads on
As the San Francisco 49ers aim to re-open their Super Bowl window, one major key for them will be finding high quality talent late in the NFL draft. One of their Day 3 picks from this year's draft, defensive tackle CJ West, didn't need long to make his mark on his new defense. The 49ers put pads on for the first time this offseason at Monday's practice and West was one of the big winners of the day. ESPN's Nick Wagoner described on Twitter why West shined in the first padded session: There was one obvious standout today: rookie DT C.J. West. I had West winning cleanly and (mostly) decisively in all five of his reps. He did it against a different bunch of OL including Matt Hennessy, Zack Johnson, Drew Moss and Connor Colby. Lest anyone think he only succeeded against backups, West's best rep might have been against Dominick Puni. West's strong hands knocked Puni back quickly and he then transitioned to a quick rip move with his hands to blow past for the win. It's way too early but West looks like a good candidate to be a third-down rusher inside next to Mykel Williams. Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh hadn't gotten to evaluate the session before he spoke with reporters, but he noted some of the characteristics that flashed as part of West's strong outing. 'Yeah. I mean, he's like a little fire hydrant, right?" Saleh said. "But, he's powerful. He's got heavy hands. He's going to be fine. He's like a lot of rookies, there are so many things that they're learning, especially on the interior of the D-Line where it's a game within a game. You know, the first thing they learn is pocket push and then they learn how to capture an edge and rush from there. I wasn't there. I heard he did a really nice job over there, but I'm excited to get to the tape to see it.' The 49ers also drafted defensive tackle Alfred Collins in the second round, but he's a much bigger, different style of player than West. At Indiana West was a force as a run stuffer and flashed some upside as a pass rusher. He continued flashing that upside in his first NFL practice in pads. Now he'll need to translate it to team reps, joint practices and preseason games if he's going to make a push for a starting role in his rookie year. View more Video Transcript Philadelphia Eagles, Charles, why do you have him as your number one defense? Other than that, they were the number one defense last year and they won the Super Bowl. And they, I mean, it's a pretty easy argument to make as well. It's easy to make, but it's also not quite the same defense, you know, they've lost some guys on the defensive line. They've lost Milton Williams, who signed that massive deal with New England. Josh Sweat is in Arizona, but you look at their defense, right? And it's just littered with first and second round picks all over the place, right? The defensive line still is, you know, all the Georgia guys, they've really started to develop. Jordan Davis, I think we'll see what happens this year. He's gotten into incredible shape. Contract year, Jordan Davis could be special. We'll see. Jaylen Carter, we know about that. But Nolan Smith, like when I was skimming through some of my stuff, he has really improved from where he was when he first got into the NFL. Like he was all over the place in the Super Bowl. You get to bring back Zach Vaughan. Like we're talking about a 7-2 Scott Bonner, who was an absolute assassin last year. And sometimes you get these years from linebackers where like, oh, they put up a lot of numbers, but it's pretty manufactured. No, he actually played really, really good football last year. And then we got Quinnen Mitchell on the outside, who's an absolute stud. Cooper DeJean, who's an absolute stud. But they have so many guys on this defense still. I still think they're going to be the best defense in the league because a lot of those guys are so young. Like a lot of these guys are still in their rookie deals or first or second year players. These guys are going to get better. So I'm really excited to see what the next step of all those guys they've drafted in the last two years looks like in year three, because there's hard proof of concept that these are potentially Pro Bowl talented NFL players and they're so young. Stefon Diggs already provided one Patriots rookie with his welcome to the NFL moment
FOXBOROUGH — New England Patriots rookie Craig Woodson's 'welcome to the NFL' moment came early in his career. And luckily, it occurred during practice rather than a game. After Tuesday's padded training camp practice, Woodson spoke with reporters about a particular play that involved four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs. 'Stefon got over me. I gotta have better leverage on that,' Woodson said. 'Plays like that let me know I'm here, this is the NFL, everybody's good. So I've just got to be on my 'A' game.' And the quarterbacks are also giving him a wake-up call. "One thing I've learned is that these quarterbacks, they are good," Woodson said of his first NFL training camp. "They can make those throws from sideline to sideline, so I have to have that range." Woodson was selected by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL draft out of the University of California. For his final three years with the Golden Bears, Woodson had a starting role. Specifically in 2024, he recorded 45 solo tackles, two interceptions, and nine pass breakups across 13 games. And he credits his time at Cal for helping prepare him for the NFL. "Cal really prepared me for this moment. We did a lot of coverage and different things," Woodson explained. "So I think just having that comfortability from college and then coming here just helps."
