Arman Tsarukyan: Jack Della Maddalena 'harder' fight for Islam Makhachev than Ilia Topuria
Arman Tsarukyan: Jack Della Maddalena 'harder' fight for Islam Makhachev than Ilia Topuria Arman Tsarukyan dismisses the notion that former UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev moved to welterweight to avoid Ilia Topuria. Makhachev (27-1 MMA, 16-1 UFC) relinquished his 155-pound title in attempt to capture a second UFC belt. Topuria (16-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC) did the same thing when he vacated his featherweight title for a move up to 155 pounds but won't get his desired fight with Makhachev. Now Makhachev will challenge newly crowned welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena (18-2 MMA, 8-0 UFC) later in the year, whereas Topuria will battle Charles Oliveira for the vacant 155-pound belt June 28 in the UFC 317 headliner. Topuria is convinced that Makhachev ducked him, but Tsarukyan (23-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) thinks otherwise. "No, I don't agree," Tsarukyan said in a recent press conference (h/t Championship Rounds). "It's going to be a tough fight, too. With Della Maddalena, it would be harder for Islam than the Topuria fight." Tsarukyan, who withdrew from his title fight against Makhachev at UFC 311 due to a back injury, picks Makhachev to beat Della Maddalena. "I see Islam as the favorite because of wrestling, control, and chokes," Tsarukyan said. "Islam, I think he has a much better wrestling game and can easily take down (Della Maddalena). ... Topuria just hits harder and takes more punches, but Della Maddalena is technically better – exactly if speaking striking-wise."

Marcedes Lewis hasn't discussed teaming up with Aaron Rodgers, Steelers, TE says
Marcedes Lewis hasn't discussed teaming up with Aaron Rodgers, Steelers, TE says Show Caption Hide Caption Former NFL QB Alex Smith weighs in on the Aaron Rodgers situation Alex Smith explains why Aaron Rodgers should return for at least one more year. Sports Seriously Marcedes Lewis is hoping to suit up for a 20th and final NFL season in 2025. Could the 41-year-old seek to reunite with his former teammate Aaron Rodgers to achieve his goal? Lewis was asked by Kay Adams on the Friday, May 29 episode of her "Up and Adams" show about the possibility of playing with Rodgers to close his career. The 2006 first-round pick revealed it is something the two discussed during their five seasons together with the Green Bay Packers. "It's always been something A-Rod would bring up, even when we were in Green Bay," Lewis said. "He was like, 'Hey, we gotta retire together.'" Lewis explained that he and Rodgers "connected and became really good friends" while they were with the Packers. He credited their willingness to put in the work to find consistent success with being the "thread" between them. Does that connection mean Lewis could end up with the Pittsburgh Steelers if Rodgers signs with the organization? The veteran tight end threw cold water on that theory for the time being. "Nah, we haven't talked about playing with the Steelers," Lewis said. "No." Perhaps that will change if Rodgers signs or if the Steelers dip into the tight end market after losing projected third-stringer Donald Parham to a torn Achilles. OPINION: Signing Aaron Rodgers is wrong move for Steelers at this point Lewis spent the last two seasons of his career with the Chicago Bears and played 19.37% of the team's offensive snaps in 2024. He had just one catch for two yards but thrived as a blocker, grading as Pro Football Focus' 12th-best pass blocker among tight ends. Lewis – who also suited up for all 17 games, marking the fourth consecutive season he achieved that goal – is hoping to find a similar role as he seeks out a new landing spot for the upcoming NFL season. "For me, it's just ... whoever values me and respects me and knows my skill set and [is] able to put me in position to play and not just be a guy on the sideline thinking that I'm 'just an older guy,'" Lewis said when explaining where he would like to play in 2025.

Falcons RB Bijan Robinson: I want more 'explosive' plays next season
Bijan Robinson is the heart and soul of the Atlanta Falcons offense, but the star running back wants more. "We're done with 30-yard runs and all that stuff. Now it's time to get those 60 yards, 50 yards. So, I've been doing a lot more explosive drills," Robinson said on Tuesday, according to the Falcons' team website. "I've been doing a lot more running — 100 yards, like sprinting — so we can be prepared for, God willing, when those moments come in all the games." Robinson is coming off a potent 2024 campaign. The then-second-year back rushed for 1,456 yards and 14 touchdowns on 4.8 yards per carry, while also totaling 61 receptions for 431 yards and one score. Robinson ranked second among running backs in both overall grade (92.8) and rushing grade (92.8) and fourth in receiving grade (82.2), according to Pro Football Focus. That said, Robinson has seldom ripped off chunk plays, as he alluded to. Even in a 2024 season that saw him earn a Pro Bowl honor, Robinson had just five carries of 20-plus yards and zero carries of 40-plus yards. For perspective, star running backs Derrick Henry (19), Saquon Barkley (17), Jahmyr Gibbs (13) and Jonathan Taylor (11) had a double-digit number of 20-plus-yard rushes, while Barkley had seven carries for 40-plus yards and Henry had five carries for 20-plus yards. In his 2023 rookie campaign, Robinson rushed for 976 yards and four touchdowns on 4.6 yards per carry. Robinson's production shot up in 2024 due to increased usage, as he had just 214 carries in 2023 compared to 304 carries in 2024; fellow Falcons back Tyler Allgeier had 186 carries in 2023, compared to 137 carries last season. Atlanta selected Robinson with the No. 8 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Texas. In his freshman season (2020), Robinson led the Big 12 with 8.2 yards per carry. Two seasons later (2022), he rushed for a conference-high with both 1,580 yards and 18 touchdowns on 6.1 yards per carry. "I work on it every single day," Robinson, who asserted that he can break defenders down "two at a time," said about pulling off explosive plays. "Obviously, the explosives, we always want them. We've added so many things to this offense so we can create more explosives. And, for me, sometimes it's that one defender, but now that's all. That's what I've been working on all offseason, just seeing that free hitter and making moves off him." Last year, Barkley became the ninth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a single season, totaling 2,005 yards on the ground in 16 regular-season games for the Philadelphia Eagles. Does Robinson have that feat in him? "We all want it. We're all waiting for that Saquon type of season when it comes to explosives," Robinson said. "But I've been working on it a lot this offseason. And, obviously, when it gets to the season, it's time to go show it and go do the work the right way." Robinson and the Falcons open the 2025 regular season at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 7 (1 p.m. ET on FOX and the FOX Sports app). Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
