Pop-up Irish-themed pub event rejected by Colchester City Council
Plans for a pop-up Irish-themed pub event for the Christmas period have been rejected.Colchester City Council refused plans for the Molly O'Reillys event at the all-weather football pitch off Cowdray Avenue, Colchester by the licensing sub-committee.The event had been planned for 6 December-31 December, but planning documents showed there were 69 objections submitted.Andy Grimsey, solicitor for applicant Live Tour Promotions Limited, told the meeting it did not "like to make people annoyed or angry" and had "enormous" experience running other events.
The meeting heard from one resident who broke down in tears explaining she cared for her husband with dementia and that loud noise was distressing for him.While she said the event was a "great idea" she felt it was a "disaster waiting to happen", reports the Local Democracy Reporting Service.Mr Grimsey said some unpopular dates had been removed from the event to address concerns as well as that plans for karaoke had been removed.Dave Harris, committee chairman and Labour councillor, said while the council was impressed by measures the applicant took to address residents' points, it was not enough to mitigate concerns over the event's location.

Alex Brooker is facing off the Banker in tonight's Soccer Aid special A Deal or No Deal contestant has been dealt a huge blow, losing the £100K jackpot just minutes into the ITV show. Saturday Night's (7th June) Soccer Aid episode saw The Last Leg co-host Alex Brooker facing off the Banker, supported by a star-studded panel. In a bid to win up to £100,000 for UNICEF, Alex gunned for the cash prize assisted by celebrities, including former England player Jill Scott and Irish actor Emmett J. Scanlan. However, Alex was left devastated when he selected his brother Tom's box, hoping to strike blue. Initially optimistic about his choice, Alex told host Stephen Mulhern "I think my brother Tom, number eight, has got 50p in there [the box.]" Tom was equally confident, agreeing with his sibling that the box likely contained 50p. But the duo were dealt a huge blow as Tom opened his box to find £100,000 inside. The Soccer Aid team was visibly upset, and they were not alone.
