Azam Baki confirms possible prosecutions in Sabah graft case

By: Bernama Text Size: KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has completed the investigation paper regarding a video clip of the alleged corruption scandal involving a Sabah state assemblyman. According to a source, the investigation paper was sent to the prosecution for review two weeks ago.
Advertisement The source said there is a possibility that prosecutions will be carried out against several individuals soon. Meanwhile, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, when contacted by Bernama , confirmed the matter and said that there might be further prosecutions against several other individuals. Recently, several video recordings have gone viral, allegedly showing conversations related to corruption between certain individuals and several Sabah lawmakers regarding the issue of mineral licensing in the state. In a statement posted on his social media, Fahmi recounted arriving at KLIA2 at around 7.30am to catch a 9.35am flight for a short two-day trip to attend a concert featuring South Korean band Slant and Singaporean act Sial. Advertisement But at the international departure counter, Immigration officers told him he had been flagged and needed to wait at their office. 'I was asked to wait while they checked with TCO (Travel Control Office/Order). Then they took my passport and IC for photocopying. They also wanted printed copies of my boarding pass and e-ticket, even though I had them on my phone,' he wrote, adding that with only 10 minutes left before boarding, an airport staff member helped him get the documents printed at a hotel nearby. When he returned to Immigration with the documents, Fahmi said an officer told him, 'Bukit Aman has not given clearance for you to leave the country.' He said no explanation was provided and he was escorted out of the departure area. Advertisement Fahmi is well known for his satirical illustrations that often critique political leaders and institutions. He believes the ban is linked to his artwork criticising the recent appointment of former Sabah chief minister Tun Musa Aman as the state's new Yang di-Pertua Negeri. Just weeks earlier, on May 29, the Sabah Immigration Department had denied Fahmi entry into the state under Section 65(1)(a) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. He said he was flown back to Kuala Lumpur the same day without further explanation. That incident followed his earlier arrest by Sabah police in February this year over another satirical post. Authorities had opened investigations under the Sedition Act for allegedly insulting the royal institution. 'Last week I was blacklisted from entering Sabah. This week, I'm blacklisted from leaving the country,' he wrote. MCMC says no personal data involved in phone record request

The commission said no personal information would be accessed, processed, or disclosed by the commission. It said that the data requested was anonymised and contained no information that can be used to identify any person. Advertisement The telecommunications companies are given the option to either process the data within their own secure environment and submit the required anonymised and aggregated output to the MCMC; or for those without processing capabilities, submit the anonymised data to the commission for processing. 'In both cases, no individual subscriber can be identified through the data collected,' MCMC said in a statement this evening. The statement came hours after the South China Morning Post , quoting industry sources, said that Putrajaya had ordered mobile phone companies to hand over detailed records of phone calls and internet usage as it broadens controls over online activity. The Post's sources said MCMC had sent a letter to telcos calling up detailed call and internet logs for the first three months of this year, as part of the government's mobile phone data project. The data collected would be used strictly for generating official statistics to support 'evidence-based policymaking'. Advertisement It sought such statistics such as the number of active mobile broadband subscriptions and penetration rates by state, district, mukim, local authority and parliamentary and state constituencies. The data was also used for tourism-related purposes, such as generating indicators on visitor numbers and domestic travel trends, MCMC said. National Youth Day Celebration To Showcase Elements Of ASEAN

Vikneswaran KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 (Bernama) -- The National Youth Day (HBN) celebration on June 13-15 will be unique as it will showcase elements of ASEAN, in line with Malaysia's Chairmanship of ASEAN 2025. The HBN Secretariat said the programme for the celebration at Dataran Merdeka includes the ASEAN Pavillion and ASEAN Concert to create the spirit of the ASEAN community and strengthen the culture of ASEAN countries among the youth. "The role of youth is seen as vital to strengthening ASEAN's regional network, particularly future collaborations in the fields of economy, leadership, education, technological innovation and social. In fact, youth can also act as junior ambassadors who can elevate the country's image globally,' it said in a statement. Themed "Yakin Boleh' (Believe You Can), the highlight of the 61st HBN celebration will be attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who will officiate the event and present the 2025 National Premier Youth Award (APBN) on June 14. "The theme illustrates the confidence, capability and competitiveness of the youth in facing challenges, including that of the current digital era. This theme also aligns with the MADANI government's efforts to empower youths through various strategic initiatives as well as the values of confidence within the MADANI framework,' it added.
