Film bodies unhappy over name change of JSK movie
Central Board of Film Certification
(CBFC) for its stand in court regarding the change in the name of the movie Janaki V/s State of Kerala.
Expressing strong protest against CBFC, Unnikrishnan stated that the board's arguments were strange. He sarcastically asked whether Harris Beeran, the lawyer who argued the case for the makers of JSK, could take up a case for someone named Janaki in the future.
"Janaki is another name for Sita Devi, who is worshipped by Hindus. In the film, the character Janaki is a victim of sexual assault. CBFC shamelessly stated in an affidavit that it is inappropriate to name victims of sexual assault as Janaki.
They also highlighted that the lawyer in the movie is from a different religion, suggesting that the lawyer will ask Janaki very challenging questions, which could lead to communal discord.
What kind of sensibility is being shown here?" he asked.
Unnikrishnan said CBFC is a highly autonomous body and it took an ideological stance without any disguise, which the organisation cannot accept.
Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA) also opposed the change in the name of the movie. The secretary of the association, B Rakesh, said the organisation cannot agree with such decisions. "But we will support the producer as he was forced to change the name," he said.

All citizens living in Bangladesh are equal, irrespective of their religion or region. He said this while addressing the Hindu devotees gathered on the occasion of the inauguration of the Janmashtami rally at Dhaka's Dhakeshwari temple. What did Waker-Uz-Zaman say? General Zaman's drawing attention towards the secular structure of the country from the Dhakeshwari temple is a veiled message for the Yunus government. After Yunus took over the command of the interim government in August last year, minority Hindus and temples have been targeted in Bangladesh. In such a situation, the Army Chief has given a strong message to the fundamentalists in his speech. People of all religions should live together General Zaman thanked the temple committee for inviting him to the Janmashtami celebrations and said, 'Bangladesh is a country of harmony, where Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, Paharis, and Bengalis have been living together peacefully for centuries. On this auspicious occasion of Janmashtami, our resolution should be to always maintain this brotherhood.' 'Bangladesh belongs to everyone; there will be no division here. There can be no discrimination based on religion, caste or sect. We are all citizens of this land, and we all have equal rights in it. We all wish for a golden future together,' said Zaman. Some governors acting like mafia hitmen against citizens: Tushar Gandhi
T'puram: Criticizing the role of governors, Tushar Gandhi , the great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi , said that some governors are like hitmen used by mafias against citizens. "There are two types of governors in the country. One type is sent to BJP-ruled states to enjoy a retired life. The second type is sent to opposition-ruled states with instructions to disrupt governance. These governors act as super vice-chancellors and disrupt higher education, forgetting their duties to protect the Constitution and improve democracy," Gandhi said. Gandhi's remarks came while he was inaugurating a national seminar organized by the Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad here on the challenges faced by universities. "The educated upper class in India is becoming more irrational, falling victim to the false propaganda experiments conducted by communal forces. They have been made to believe that Hindus are in danger and will soon be wiped out. These forces ensure that the majority supports any atrocities they commit, paving the way for the persecution of minorities," he said. The education system, which lacks rational thinking and promotes enslavement, aids this process, Gandhi added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo He said that Centre's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 maintains a flawed perspective on education and creates a system that further enslaves students. "Today's education hides realities, eliminates rational thinking, and fosters a slave mentality, becoming a tool to propagate the interests of those in power. People in every region must take responsibility to counter these issues. States should have the right to develop their educational systems, creating an education model that aligns with their culture and region," Gandhi said. India's partition happened due to ‘jugalbandi' of Hindu Mahasabha and Muslim League: Congress
The Congress said that as a special NCERT module to mark the 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' held Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the Congress and the then Viceroy Lord Mountbatten responsible for India's partition. The Congress also dubbed the RSS as 'the biggest villain' in the country's history, and said that the coming generations would not forgive them. New Delhi, Aug 16 (PTI) The Congress on Saturday alleged that the partition of India happened because of the 'jugalbandi' of the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League, as it accused the ruling BJP of interfering in institutions while trying to distort the country's history. Congress spokesperson and head of party's media and publicity department Pawan Khera said the book does not mention anything about the Hindu Mahasabha for forming coalition governments with the Muslim League and both propagating, in pre-partition days, that Hindus and Muslims cannot live together in one country. 'The partition happened because of the Hindu Mahasabha and Muslim League's 'jugalbandi'. If there is anyone which is the biggest villain in history, it is the RSS. Generations will not forgive them for the contribution,' Khera told reporters when asked about the NCERT book. 'The manner in which they are trying to interfere in institutions and are trying to distort the history, we would not sit quiet. Can they remove these pages of 1938, 1940 and of 1942?' he asked. The Congress leader said L K Advani had gone to the Mazar of Mohammad Ali Jinnah to pay his respects, as the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League were 'together in seeking partition'. Khera claimed that in 1938, the Hindu Mahasabha held its annual convention on the banks of Sabarmati in Gujarat, where it was clearly stated that Hindus and Muslims cannot stay together in one country. In 1940, he said, in its Lahore convention, the Muslim League took this forward and repeated this statement, but the NCERT module does not mention about them. 'When the Quit India Movement was launched in 1942, Congress leaders resigned from the provincial Assembly and took to the streets. At that time, the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League entered into a coalition and jointly formed governments in NWFP, Bengal and Sindh. 'Has the NCERT module written this that the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League formed joint coalition governments?' the Congress leader asked. 'Put that book in fire if all that which is history has been not been written in it,' Khera asserted. The NCERT module has also noted that post-Partition, Kashmir emerged as a new problem, which had never existed in India before and created a challenge for the country's foreign policy. It also flagged that some countries keep giving aid to Pakistan and exert pressure on India in the name of the Kashmir issue. 'India's Partition happened due to wrong ideas. The party of Indian Muslims, the Muslim League, held a conference in Lahore in 1940. Its leader, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, said that Hindus and Muslims belong to two different religious philosophies, social customs, and literatures,' the module said. In a section titled 'Culprits of Partition', the NCERT module said, 'Ultimately, on August 15, 1947, India was divided. But this was not the doing of any one person. There were three elements responsible for the Partition of India: Jinnah, who demanded it; second, the Congress, which accepted it; and third, Mountbatten, who implemented it. But Mountbatten proved to be guilty of a major blunder. 'He preponed the date for the transfer of power from June 1948 to August 1947. He persuaded everyone to agree to this. Because of this, complete preparations could not be made before the Partition. The demarcation of the Partition boundaries was also done hastily. For that, Sir Cyril Radcliffe was given only five weeks.' PTI SKC MNK MNK This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. ThePrint holds no responsibility for its content.
