Embracing new possibilities and cultural impact, the Saudi Cultural Development Fund (CDF) hosted a networking event titled 'Cultural Entrepreneurship in Saudi Arabia: Fostering Innovation and Heritage' at the Saudi Arabia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka.
The event featured a panel discussion that explored the Kingdom's thriving cultural economy, where Dr. Ghazi Faisal Binzagr, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Japan and Commissioner General of the Saudi Arabia Pavilion, joined entrepreneurs and international investors sharing in growing global interest in Saudi Arabia's dynamic cultural economy.
Moderated by cultural researcher and podcast host of Vision, Culture, and Policy, Saba Alkhamis, the conversation brought together Basil Al Alola, CDF Chief Credit & Investment Officer; Darren Barker, Founder of Barker Langham; and Hessa Alajaji, Founder of Accents, a design brand highlighting Saudi artisan. Guests explored Saudi Arabia's cultural renaissance and the rise of culture-sector entrepreneurship as a powerful engine for economic and social growth—underscoring the pivotal role of CDF's holistic financing and enablement solutions in driving the sector's sustainable expansion.
In a vibrant celebration of cultural exchange, the event served as a platform to spotlight Saudi Arabia's artistic heritage and its growing global connections. Building on the momentum of the 2025 Year of Handicrafts, the reception showcased works created in collaboration with Saudi artisans, reflecting the depth and vibrancy of the Kingdom's creative spirit. Complementing this showcase of handicrafts, the evening also celebrated cultural dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Japan, elevated with a performance by Japanese violinist and composer Ikuko Kawai, whose music embodied culture as both a bridge for collaboration and a catalyst for creativity.
Across Expo 2025 Osaka, CDF's participation spans a diverse range of activations presenting Saudi Arabia's thriving cultural ecosystem and investment opportunities across the Kingdom's cultural landscape. With a particular emphasis on positioning culture as a driver of economic diversification and global collaboration, CDF shares real success stories, spotlights opportunities, and delivers meaningful impact. The Fund will also join local and international experts for panel discussions and networking sessions pertaining to all 16 cultural sectors, showcasing the Fund's tailored financing and enablement solutions.

Saudi-Born A/N Tea Opens Quiet New Outpost in Cairo's Zamalek After opening in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, A/N Tea has made its way to Zamalek, bringing a quietly curated tea menu and simple social ethos to a neighbourhood steeped in its own rhythms. Tea is a relic that somehow never feels outdated and yet, in a world brimming with turmeric lattes and QR-coded cafés, the simple pleasure of a proper cup of tea often gets lost in the froth. Born in the city of Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, to celebrate the enduring modesty of tea, A/N Tea is now steeping in a new setting—Zamalek. The tea-focused café opened its second location in the leafy Cairo neighbourhood just six months ago, marking a shift from the Gulf's eastern coastline to the Egyptian capital's island district. Founded by friends Annas Yoseif and Abdullah, A/N Tea began with an offhand idea during one of many casual hangouts in tea shops. 'We were just always hanging around in tea shops. One day we thought, why don't we open our own?' Yoseif tells SceneEats. The first space opened in Khobar with a clear mission: keep it simple, keep it social. That same approach has travelled to Zamalek. The café serves only tea and sandwiches—no trending add-ons, no bubble tea, no matcha foams. Instead, A/N Tea's menu draws from familiar blends like mint, habak, and karak, and includes regional favourites such as maramiya, a Taif-native sage leaf. 'We built our menu around the belief that tea should be drunk as it is,' Yoseif says. The café's Cairo location reflects its low-frills philosophy. Housed in a minimal yet warm space, A/N Tea in Zamalek aims to create room for conversation rather than spectacle. 'The main vision was to create a place that resembles a sort of common ground,' Yoseif explains. 'A place where people from different backgrounds can come and bond over the shared comfort of a good tea. We wanted to create a warm space for everyone. Our branch in Egypt echoes the way people live here - it's so beautiful, everyone appreciates simplicity.' What defines A/N Tea, beyond its limited menu, is its focus on precision. 'We steam the tea leaves so all the flavour comes directly from them,' Yoseif says. 'You'll taste the best tea of your life.' By moving from Khobar to Cairo, A/N Tea hasn't reinvented itself—it has simply planted its model in a new kind of city rhythm. In Zamalek, where quiet conversations and slow days still have a place, its arrival feels less like a disruption and more like a natural pause.

Captured by Lights In Motion Ahead of the 2025 edition of Automechanika Dubai, experts from Frost and Sullivan shared the latest industry insights for the commercial vehicle market Dubai's allocation of US$10 billion towards infrastructure spending and Saudi Arabia's US$267 billion in infrastructure investments have been highlighted as key contributors to industry growth The latest automotive advancements and regional industry updates will be showcased at Automechanika Dubai from 9 to 11 December Dubai, UAE: Automechanika Dubai returns from 9 to 11 December at the Dubai World Trade Centre and in the lead up to the event, industry experts have emphasised that significant investments in large-scale construction and infrastructure projects are key to ensuring the growth of the GCC commercial vehicle market. In 2024, the global commercial vehicle market experienced a downturn, with the medium and heavy-duty truck segment particularly impacted. Light commercial vehicle volumes also declined in Asian markets such as China, India, and the ASEAN countries despite strong growth in recent years. Amid these shifts, China's electric truck segment emerged as a standout, more than doubling sales from the previous year due to strong government support and a growing focus on sustainability. However, according to industry experts, the GCC's commercial vehicle market is poised for growth, driven by substantial infrastructure investments and strategic economic initiatives in key member states. Sunny Manjani, Mobility Consultant at Frost & Sullivan, said: 'Dubai has earmarked US$10 billion for infrastructure spending, focusing on scaling the Emirate's tourism economy. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has announced investments worth US$267 billion, and Qatar is focusing on tourism and hospitality under its Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030.' According to Frost & Sullivan's research, Saudi Arabia is leading the commercial vehicles industry in the Middle East, leveraging its strategic location and substantial infrastructure investments. Manjani continued: 'Current supply chain disruptions in maritime routes are creating short-term opportunities for road transportation in the region. For example, goods from Europe are currently being transported from Saudi Arabia, through the UAE, and then to Asia.' He further noted that the Middle East is emerging as a prime destination for investment and emphasised that supportive policies and increasing trade ties with Asian partners are catalysing multisector growth across the region. Looking at the year ahead, Frost & Sullivan's research predicts that the non-oil economy in the Middle East will remain a key driver of economic growth, with key industries identified as manufacturing (including automotive), renewables, infrastructure, construction, tourism, artificial intelligence, and fintech. In the UAE, a resilient non-oil economy performance will push GDP growth to 5.8% in 2025, up from 4% in 2024, while investments in Saudi's non-oil segments including, tourism, technology, infrastructure, and renewables, will see real GDP growth reach 4.8% in 2025. Both scenarios have the potential to positively impact the commercial vehicle market due to increased demand. Commenting on the upcoming edition of Automechanika Dubai, Tommy Le, Show Manager for Automechanika Dubai, said: 'Automechanika Dubai is the largest international trade show for the automotive aftermarket industry in the MEA region. The 22nd edition will span 20 halls at the Dubai World Trade Centre, featuring over 20 Pavilions and a host of new features.
