Transport Ministry To Roll Out BAS.MY Medik Soon For Passengers With Limited Mobility
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the initiative will require BAS.MY operators to provide at least one dedicated van to serve passengers using wheelchairs or travelling to clinics or dialysis centres.
'The BAS.MY Medik service will be offered at an affordable fare,' Loke said at the launch of the SBST BAS.MY Kangar service today, with Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.
He noted that transportation remains a challenge for many patients, particularly those who require frequent medical treatment.
'For example, dialysis patients typically need to travel three times a week. Taking a taxi to and from the centre can cost RM20 to RM30 per trip, which is a heavy burden.
'With BAS.MY Medik, the van will pick them up from home and take them directly to the treatment centre at a much lower fare. This service will be introduced by bus operators soon,' he said.
Loke said the Federal government has allocated RM39.7 million over five years to support the continued operation of BAS.MY Kangar, to enhance public transport access and improve the well-being of residents.
The BAS.MY service in Kangar currently operates nine routes, including a cross-border link to Alor Setar, Kedah, which should be fully utilised by the public, he added.
'Before the COVID-19 pandemic, SBST Kangar recorded a monthly ridership of around 30,000 passengers from 2016 to 2019. However, for the first half of 2025, the monthly average has dropped to just 12,071 passengers,' he said.

Oasis Home targets RM10 million plus annual revenue from new halal health and wellness product line
PUCHONG: Oasis Home Holding Bhd expects to generate more than RM10 million in yearly revenue from its new halal health supplement and wellness product line developed under a joint venture with livestream marketing agency GIMCare (M) Sdn Bhd. CEO Datuk Jaden Teoh Yee Seang said the figure is based on performance benchmarks from GIMCare and its parent company, GIMmedia, which currently records RM30 million in gross merchandise value monthly across livestream and e-commerce channels. 'GIMCare is doing, in similar but not in the same category we're developing, over RM4 million to RM5 million in monthly revenue. So, if we're saying our yearly target is RM10 million, I think that's a comfortable and not exaggerating estimate. I think it's an attainable target,' he told reporters at the joint venture agreement signing ceremony today between Oasis Home's wholly owned subsidiary, Oasis Wellness International Sdn Bhd, and livestream marketing agency GIMCare (M). Teoh said the upcoming wellness range will prioritise strict regulatory compliance and halal certification. 'We are very good in sourcing the ingredients from overseas especially those who have trademark and also comes with clinical research, the ingredients of the supplements.' Teoh said the joint venture aims to tap into halal markets in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam, which have sizeable Muslim populations. 'For example, one of our guests today is from the Ministry of Health who works closely with counterparts in Thailand and Indonesia. If we meet the local requirements, adapting our products to regional markets will be straightforward,' he added. Teoh said Oasis Home's direct-to-consumer business model built on digital sales channels enables cost-efficiency and affordability. 'We don't pay rental or carry heavy operating costs. That's why we can offer premium wellness products at accessible prices. Wellness and healthcare don't have to be expensive but they must comply with regulatory standards.' The joint venture company, OG Alliance Sdn Bhd, will be incorporated with a start-up capital of RM500,000, with Oasis Wellness holding a 51% stake and GIMCare owning the remainder. GIMCare is a wholly owned subsidiary of GIMmedia Sdn Bhd, a multichannel network and top-tier livestream enabler recognised by platforms such as TikTok, Shopee and Lazada. The initial product pipeline includes marine collagen powder drinks, skin health supplements and children's immunity boosters. The products will be distributed via major platforms including TikTok, Shopee and Lazada. OG Alliance is expected to be incorporated by early September, with its first product launch scheduled for the end of the year. Teoh said digital platforms are driving growth in the wellness space, 'In July 2025, TikTok's wellness category alone recorded over RM80 million in monthly revenue. According to IMARC Group, Malaysia's health and wellness market is projected to grow from US$11.4 billion (RM48 billion) in 2024 to US$18 billion by 2033, at a compounded annual growth rate of 4.6%.'

Govt unveils rehab-focused anti-drug plan
Published on: Saturday, August 02, 2025 Published on: Sat, Aug 02, 2025 By: Sisca Humphrey Text Size: Shamsul pictured with attendees present at the event. KOTA KINABALU: The Federal Government is boosting drug prevention and rehabilitation efforts by establishing Drug Assessment Centres (DAC) and working closely with community-based groups. Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah warned of increasing synthetic drug use, including flavoured mushroom vapes, and called for urgent, evidence-based interventions. DACs mark a shift from traditional detention, focusing on medical and psychosocial assessments, in line with amendments to the Drug Dependants Act 1983 that prioritise rehabilitation over punishment. The Cabinet has approved the Anti-Drug Communication Plan 2025–2027 to promote behavioural change, accurate messaging and cross-sector cooperation, alongside the launch of District Community Synergy Committees (JSKD) to strengthen grassroots coordination. Shamsul urged NGOs to embrace digital tools for youth outreach, stressing that drug prevention requires the shared commitment of agencies, families, educators and the wider community. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? RM40 biliion allocation to implement healthcare reforms
Published on: Friday, August 01, 2025 Published on: Fri, Aug 01, 2025 Text Size: Queen Elizabeth Hospital 2. Kuala Lumpur: The Federal Government has allocated RM40 billion under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) 2026 to 2030 to implement wide-ranging reforms in the healthcare sector, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced Thursday. He said the healthcare reform agenda is a vital government initiative to ensure sustainable health financing while expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare services for all Malaysians, which is also aimed at increasing service options for patients without compromising on cost or quality. To strengthen medical supply security, Anwar said domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing would be encouraged, while the use of generic medicines in both the public and private sectors would be significantly increased. 'Pro-health taxes will be expanded from sugar to products such as tobacco, vape and alcohol, not just for revenue but to encourage behavioural change and curb the increase in non-communicable diseases (NCDs) which is increasingly worrying,' he said. Another key objective of the reform, Anwar said, is to reduce the out-of-pocket healthcare expenses borne by citizens. Under the 13MP, more hospitals and clinics - including those in dilapidated condition - will be built or upgraded to improve healthcare delivery nationwide. Major projects slated for development include Hospital Tuanku Ja'afar 2 in Seremban, Hospital Sultanah Aminah 2 in Johor Bahru, the Northern Region Cancer Centre in Sungai Petani, the Sabah Heart Centre at Hospital Queen Elizabeth II in Kota Kinabalu, and the Sarawak Cancer Centre. To address long-standing workforce challenges, the government will also introduce a national framework for health sector talent development. 'This includes initiatives covering pre-service training, licensing, recruitment, placement, and career development, all aimed at retaining and nurturing skilled professionals in the healthcare system,' Anwar said. Anwar also announced that health record management will be strengthened as part of the core strategy for digitising Malaysia's healthcare infrastructure, which will enhance interoperability between healthcare facilities and enable seamless patient data access. The digitisation push will also lay the groundwork for high-impact health analytics powered by artificial intelligence (AI), further enhancing the quality and responsiveness of healthcare services in Malaysia, he added. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
