DC Studios Is Finally Making a ‘Mister Miracle' Animated Series

Gizmodoa day ago

Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios have announced that the next adult animated series will be Mister Miracle.
According to Deadline, which initially broke the news, Mister Miracle comic book writer Tom King (who is also producing HBO's Lanterns TV series) will serve as the showrunner and executive producer of the animated series. While no release date or cast announcements were coupled with the Mister Miracle's announcement, the show, which follows the eponymous DC character, will be based on the award-winning 2017 comic book series, created by King and artist Mitch Gerads.
According to the logline for the series, Scott Free (AKA Mister Miracle) is a renowned celebrity known best for being the greatest escape artist alive. His latest stunt is to see if he can escape death itself. Naturally, things go 'horribly wrong' in Scott's 'perfect life,' he's built with his big, strong warrior wife, Big Barda. That thing being a war between their home worlds of Apokolips and New Genesis thanks to Mister Miracle's adoptive father Darkseid (yikes) seemingly finally getting his hands on the Anti-Life Equation, a weapon granting him power to rule over the universe.
'As the mountains of bodies on both sides grow ever higher, only Mister Miracle can stop the slaughter and restore peace,' says the logline. 'But the terrible power of the Anti-Life Equation may already be at work in his own mind, warping his reality, exposing his long-buried pain, and shattering the fragile happiness he's found with the woman he loves.
It continues: 'And so begins the odyssey of Scott Free, Mister Miracle: a harrowing, hilarious, heart wrenching journey across the pitfalls of the ordinary and extraordinary as the son of God raised by the devil tries to save his family, his world, and maybe even himself.'
According to a press release from Warner Bros, Mister Miracle will serve as Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios' second adult animated series. The first of which (supposedly, barring the Harley Quinn Animated series) is Creature Commandos, whose second season is in production. In tandem with the announcement of Mister Miracle, DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation reaffirmed other recently greenlit animated series, including Starfire!, My Adventures with Green Lantern and DC Super Powers.
While the news of a Mister Miracle series will come to many DC fans as a pleasant surprise, this isn't the first time DC has attempted to bring the comic book character to life. Back in 2018, DC announced director Ava DuVernay was set to direct a New Gods movie, which would've seen Barda and Miracle on the silver screen–a project that King was set to co-write on, but was ultimately scrapped in 2021. With DC Studios under James Gunn unveiling a revamped roadmap of sorts, featuring a new array of projects, Mister Miracle's return to the menu is a pleasant surprise for the ultimate wife guy's diehard fans.

LEGO Isn't Only Treating Star Wars Fans, Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle Set Drops to New Record Low Price

Build this lovely set up piece-by-piece and then just enjoy it as a set-piece for $144. If you're looking for a gift to get someone who loves Harry Potter, then you're probably staring at a long list of options, all of them feeling a little bit overwhelming. There are plenty of things to choose from, sure, but how many of them will be really special? Well, the answer to this conundrum, and plenty of other ones, is Lego. See at Amazon That's because you can currently grab the Lego Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle and Grounds set with 15% off. This thing is an absolute beauty once it's all put together, and it's sure to offer plenty of joy to any fan you manage to get it for. Yes, that includes yourself if you're just looking for an excuse to get a little treat. Your Letter Is Here As with so many modern Lego sets, the aim here isn't really to play. The aim here is, instead, to spend a few really quality hours building it. You can do that alone, sure, but building it with a friend or some family can make for a really solid way to spend a few evenings and bond a little bit too. There's a lot of fun to be had meticulously putting together any Lego set, but especially when it's one as grandiose as this. That's just the first part of the fun though, the rest of the fun is a little bit more passive. You then get to have this on a shelf, mantlepiece, or even your desk if you've got enough space, and then just smile to yourself as you walk past it. It's worth noting you do need to actually build the 2,660 piece set first, and when we say it's going to be a few evenings, we mean if you're dedicated and putting some serious hours in. The end result is pretty massive too. It measures 21 cm high, 35 cm wide, and 25 cm deep, so you'll need a big enough place to actually display it. As long as you've got that though, you'll be able to enjoy the set for as long as you want to, and maybe even use it as the start of a collection that'll last you for years to come. That's a lot of happiness out of just one thing, and given that it's down to $144 for a limited time, that's all the more reason to treat yourself for once. There's no telling when this set will go on sale again, so don't miss out. See at Amazon

The World's Best IPA—According To The International Beer And Cider Awards

IPA subcategories dominated entries at the International Beer and Cider Awards this year. getty The best IPA gold medal winners in various IPA subcategories were recently announced at this year's International Beer and Cider Awards. In early June, judges tasted 1436 entries at this year's competition held in Idaho Falls. The competition divided IPAs into 10 categories that celebrate a diverse range of hop-forward beers ranging from English-style IPAs to experimental IPAs and the ever-popular hazy IPAs. As expected, breweries entered more IPAs in the category than other styles. 'IPA entries continue to dominate the competition,' Lisa Smith, vice president of the North American Brewers Association, which runs the competition, told me via email. As is standard for beer competitions, only three medals are awarded per category: gold, silver and bronze. Though the competition is open to breweries across the globe, American-made craft beers dominated the IPA category. West Coast breweries had a good showing but were not the only states represented, as can sometimes be the case with IPA categories at beer competitions. One thing I love about the International Beer and Cider Awards is the diversity of IPA offerings mentioned above. I remain a big fan of the IPA style overall, but even I grow tired of endless variations of hazy IPA offerings, though very few things in life beat a well-done one. The IPAs below vary in taste, style and appearance but were all deemed the best of the best in their respective categories. Prickly Pear Lewis & Clark Brewing Company Helena, MT Helper Beer, Mindset extra Pale ale Helper Beer Helper, Utah Citra Starburst, TapRoom Beer Co., San Diego, CA Punk Rock Time IPA, Baerlic Brewing Co., Portland, OR Wastelandia, Grains of Wrath Camas, WA Breakside Kyoto Soul, Breakside Brewery Milwaukie, Portland, OR Featherweight Light IPA, Mother Earth Brew Co., Nampa, Idaho Take Me to the River, Meanwhile Brewing Co., Austin, Texas Albumurky, Boxing Bear Brewing Co., Albuquerque, NM Fukiphino, Redrock Brewing, Salt Lake City, Utah Unfortunately, many of these IPA award winners are regional specialties. If you're interested in a particular IPA, however, you should contact the brewery and see if they ship their beer or have plans to distribute to an area near you. Most of these breweries are also located in wonderful places to visit, so it's a good excuse for a beer-centric trip. I'm also a big believer that the best IPA is often the one that's brewed closest to you. So if a certain sub-type of IPA appeals to you, tell the staff at your local brewery and see if they make anything like it or have recommendations for where you might find it nearby. As I've said before, the best IPAs I've had include award winning brews as well as obscure IPAs I've found fresh on draft in taprooms near my home.

Sony Touts ‘Strong' Marathon Engagement, Confirms Release Window

Marathon The future of Marathon after the last month or so feels rather unsteady, but in a new SIE presentation, Sony is reinforcing that it's an important game in its lineup, and it's projecting confidence. Sony's Herman Hulst took some time during his overview of PlayStation's offerings to single Marathon out as 'an innovative and bold take on the extraction shooter genre.' This was joined by a slide that under the banner 'FY25 Focus,' which said that there is 'Strong early engagement for Bungie's bold and innovative new title.' Marathon If you've been following the saga of Marathon, all this is a bit eyebrow-raising. For starters, at least the presentation reinforces a window for Marathon, Fiscal Year 2025, in a time when most players believe it will be delayed out of its current September 23, 2024 release date. FY25 ends in March 2026, so it would not be something huge like a year delay. Even six months is pushing it, so if there is one, it would not be all that long, and you would wonder what might be able to be changed or fixed in that time. That leads to the next aspect of this, this supposed 'strong engagement.' Sure, there's been strong engagement, but that consists of a lot of negativity about its gameplay reveal, then an overwhelming sense that the Closed Alpha was underwhelming, then an industry-wide scandal where it was revealed that plagiarized art had made it through the game's pipeline over a number of years and had ended up in the game itself. So yes, there was 'engagement.' FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder Either Sony is completely divorced from the online conversation surrounding Marathon, or they see where things are headed and feel forced to project strength regardless. Saying nothing about Marathon or waffling on it here would do nothing to help them or the game so of course, yes, you say you believe in the game, even if you're dancing around what's actually happening by bragging about 'engagement.' But internally, even Bungie is extremely concerned about where things are, and where things are going from here. Live services The chart of Sony's live service prospects is bleak. There's no real getting around that. It considers its eternal baseball game, The Show, a live service. Destiny 2 has been bleeding players and is now entering a very risky new era that seems unlikely to return the game to its glory days. Marathon is on the edge of oblivion at this point. It's hilarious they're even saying Fairgames is still actually coming out. The unequivocal bright spot here is Helldivers 2, which has been true since it launched. But its developer, Arrowhead, will not be working with Sony for its next game. Over the course of the past two months, I have arrived at the conclusion that Marathon is just not going to work. The vibes are awful, the problems with the game are mostly etched in stone, and now we have an art theft scandal on top of that. I do expect a delay to be announced, but it won't be lengthy, and I do not believe this is going to be the release that both Sony and Bungie need, whatever they're saying in their slideshow.
