Bach Musica NZ Present An Evening Of Mozart And C.P.E. Bach In June
Join the renowned Bach Musica NZ, New Zealand's leading combined choir and orchestra, at the Auckland Town Hall on Sunday 22 June for an evening of exquisite performance with Mozart's Piano Concerto in D minor & C.P.E. Bach's Magnificat.
The June concert welcomes young award-winning pianist, Madeleine Xiao, as soloist in Mozart's famous Piano Concerto in D minor. Madeleine began learning the piano at age five. At just 16, she went on to study a Bachelor of Music at the University of Auckland. She won 3rd place at the National Concerto Competition in 2023 and received the Royal Overseas League Pettman Scholarship in 2024.
In the second half of the concert, Bach Musica NZ's chorus and orchestra present the 45-minute glorious Magnificat by C.P.E. Bach, the gifted son of J.S. Bach. They are joined by vocal soloists Joanna Foote (soprano), 2024 Lexus Song Quest winner Katie Trigg (alto), Taliai Fifita (tenor) and Edward Laurenson (baritone).
This concert is conducted by Bach Musica NZ's Music & Artistic Director, Rita Paczian. 'Mozart and Bach will forever remain two of the greatest composers, and that includes the gifted son Carl Philip Emanuel. His Magnificat is magnificent!' says Paczian.
Bach Musica NZ also continue their popular workshop series, with their Sight-Reading Workshop on Saturday 17 May and Singing Workshop on Saturday 1 November. All ages and skill levels are welcome.

Sunday Concerts Presents Solo Pianist John Chen
Press Release – Wellington Chamber Music Sunday Concerts presents the John Chen at 3 pm on Sunday 15 June 2025 at St Andrews on The Terrace, Wellington. Having become the youngest ever winner of the Sydney International Piano Competition in 2004, at the age of 18, Chen has performed with most of the major symphony orchestras in Australia and New Zealand. He presents an all-French programme that is a celebration of the beautiful simplicity and melodic romanticism that a solo piano can achieve. The programme of this concert features Poulenc's Three Novelettes, Duparc's Four Melodies, Franck's Prelude Chorale and Fugue, Fauré's Theme and Variations op. 73, and Saint-Saëns' 6 Etudes Op. 111 John Chen studied with Rae de Lisle at the University of Auckland, where he obtained his Master of Music, followed by an Artist Diploma at Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles under John Perry. Reflecting a passion for 20th century French music, he has made recordings of works by Henri Dutilleux, Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel for Naxos and ABC Classics. This concert is presented in association with Chamber Music NZ and is part of a 13-concert tour by Chen. NZSO Classical Hits Tour From Kerikeri To Blenheim Begins 31 May
Journey from the hall of the mountain king to the Viennese countryside with a selection of classical music's greatest hits performed by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in Wellington, Blenheim, Nelson, Manukau and Kerikeri from 31 May. Masterworks: Mozart, Beethoven & Haydn is part of the NZSO's annual Setting Up Camp tour, which includes daytime community performances and events in each centre where the orchestra plays. Led by NZSO Music Director Emeritus James Judd and featuring NZSO Concertmaster Vesa-Matti Leppänen as soloist for Mozart's exquisite Fifth Violin Concerto, Masterworks is an unmissable musical experience. The tour programme has been tailored for each centre. Along with Mozart's Violin Concerto, Wellington and Blenheim feature Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, including the instantly recognisable In the Hall of the Mountain King, Beethoven's beloved Sixth Symphony Pastoral and the world premiere of Kiwi composer Briar Prastiti's The Garden. The Manukau and Kerikeri concerts feature The Garden, Peer Gynt and Pastoral, along with Haydn's magnificent Symphony No. 100 Military. Nelson audiences will enjoy Military, Mozart's Fifth Violin Concerto and, as a special treat, Mozart's The Abduction from the Seraglio Overture. 'New Zealand is unrivalled in producing so much wonderful new music of all genres. Schools' Concerts take place in Wellington (29 May), Manukau (11 June), Whangārei (12 June) and Kerikeri (13 June).
