Fatal crash near Ayer Hitam leaves two dead, 16 hurt after tour bus slams into two lorries
Bernama cited Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Station chief Assistant Fire Superintendent Mohamad Shamin Mohamed Salikin saying the two victims, both Indonesian nationals, have been identified as Hidirman, 43, and Zulhadi, 44. They died at the scene after being trapped in the wreckage.
He said the station received an emergency call at 12.44am, and a Fire Rescue Tender and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit with seven personnel from the Ayer Hitam and Yong Peng stations were dispatched to the scene.
'Upon arrival, the rescue team found that the incident involved a tour bus, a tow truck, and a tanker lorry.
'Two bus passengers were found trapped and pronounced dead at the scene, while 16 others were injured, including the bus driver. Another 28 individuals were reported to be unharmed,' he said in a statement today.
Mohamad Shamin added that the injured victims were sent to hospital for further treatment, and the operation concluded entirely at 3.03am.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1 — Four Form One students were arrested yesterday for allegedly assaulting a classmate at a shopping mall in Kajang the day before, Berita Harian reported. The boy alleged he was punched and slapped by schoolmates who were still in uniform at the time of the incident. Police arrested the four 13-year-old boys at about 8.35pm in the Bandar Kajang area. A two-day remand was granted until tomorrow to assist investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 506 for criminal intimidation. It is also being probed under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, which carries a fine of up to RM100 upon conviction. Police view the incident seriously and have urged students to adhere to school rules and avoid behaviour that could jeopardise their future. Tumpat District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Khairi Shafie, said his department is aware of a viral social media post making the claim. 'For the public's information, the police have strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) regarding the handling of detainees' personal belongings, including identity cards. All items are properly recorded and securely stored in a designated storage room,' he said in a statement today. He said that the individual who made the allegations has five prior arrest records related to drug and criminal offences. 'The latest arrest was on July 2 under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Court convicts worker of raping minor in Serian met via app, imposes 15-year jail term, three strokes of the cane
KUCHING, Aug 1 — The Sessions Court here today sentenced a general worker to 15 years in prison and three stokes of the cane for raping a 16-year-old girl. Judge Iris Awen Jon convicted the unrepresented accused on his own guilty plea to a charge of committing physical sexual assault, framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and punishable under Section 14 of the same Act. The court also ordered to undergo rehabilitation and counselling during his imprisonment, and to be placed under police supervision for two years upon his release. The accused committed the offence in a container room for contract workers in Serian between 7pm and 8pm on June 19, 2025. The facts of the case stated that the victim was asleep in the container room when she was approached by the accused, whom she had become acquainted with via a social media app. He then held the victim by the neck and pulled at her shirt until it tore before raping her. The victim reportedly cried out for help but no one heard her, with the accused then threatening to kill her if she continued to scream. He is said to have raped her three times, and during the third incident, several individuals heard her scream and came to her aid, taking her to another room. Acting on a report lodged by the girl, police arrested the accused at a workers' quarters in Miri on July 17. During mitigation, the accused pleaded for leniency on the grounds that he is supporting his stroke-afflicted father and has a three-month-old child. However, deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Aiman Mutallib Mohamad Shariff urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence, citing public interest, nature of the offence, and frequency of such cases.
