From 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, law enforcement officers stood atop Dunkin' locations in the state, to rally communities in support of their local Special Olympics athletes. In Illinois, more than 350 Dunkin' locations participated in the fundraiser.
This year marks the 22nd year of the event. Since the program began, nearly $10 million has been raised in Illinois.

The substitute teacher invited the boy to multiple 'play dates' at her home in 2023 and then twice in March 2024, during which time the pair had two sexual encounters, according to a lawsuit filed by the child's parents and seen by WCIA. The 34-year-old woman faces up to 40 years in prison. WANDTV In a police interview, the disgraced educator claimed the child had made sexual advances toward her first the night they had sex, WICS reported. She was fired by Decatur Public Schools when the abuse came to light in April last year. The pervert appeared in court in Macon County on Thursday for a disposition hearing at which she reached a partial plea deal with prosecutors. Bardfield faces up to 40 years in prison, although the exact sentence has not been agreed upon yet. Predatory criminal sexual assault is punishable by up to 60 years in prison, but the state agreed to cap its recommended sentence for Bardfield to 40 years as part of the plea deal. She will be sentenced Sept. 25.

Rantoul man found guilty of predatory criminal sexual assault
RANTOUL, Ill. (WCIA) — A jury deliberated for less than thirty minutes on Wednesday before delivering a guilty verdict to a 39-year-old Rantoul man accused of two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault. Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz said the jury trial took place July 29 and 30. Family, friends gather to grieve train crash victim, honor him with balloon release Evidence presented in court indicated that the sexual abuse occurred between October 2021 and February 2022 in Rantoul. The Rantoul Police Department began to investigate Joshua Nibbe in April of 2022 after the child's mother had reported that her child had been sexually abused by Nibbe. The child was 11 at the time of disclosure, but the abuse had been going on since the child was 10 years old. The State's Attorney's Office filed criminal charges on June 22, 2022. Nibbe was arrested on June 29, 2022 and has been in custody at the Champaign County Correctional Center since. Predatory criminal sexual assault is a class X felony and carries between 6 to 60 years in prison. Since Nibbe was found guilty on two counts, Rietz said he will serve his sentences one after the other, rather than at the same time. UPDATE: Springfield's 6th Street, Oberlin Ave reopen after crash
Update at 5:30 p.m. The intersection of 6th Street and Oberlin Avenue has reopened, SPD Lieutenant Tim Jenkins told WCIA. SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A Springfield intersection is currently shut down due to a crash Thursday afternoon. The crash involved two vehicles at the intersection of 6th Street and Oberlin Avenue. Springfield Police Lieutenant Tim Jenkins told WCIA that while there are conflicting witness statements, the crash appears to have been caused by a car that was driving north on 6th Street at a high rate of speed. That car collided with another car that was crossing Oberlin Avenue, Jenkins said. 3rd teen arrested in Champaign shooting that left a 14-year-old with 'potentially life-threatening' injuries Three people were taken from the scene with injuries, Jenkins added. All of them are expected to be ok. The cars also crashed into a utility pole, but Jenkins said it was only an ancillary pole. CWLP crews have already disconnected the wires from it. The intersection of 6th and Oberlin will be closed for at least another hour while the crash scene is cleaned up, Jenkins said.
