22News Hiring: Digital Producer
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – WWLP-22News, has a full-time Digital News Producer position available.
The Digital Producer leads the transition from broadcast-focused newsrooms to multi-platform newsrooms through active daily examples; providing training in methods, processes, and tactics; as well as in creating/editing original content beyond that which is produced for on-air.
Develops and leads winning strategy for station content
Expert understanding of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms
Reviews copy and will correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
Use our Social Media and Website to build and reinforce brand recognition and drive viewers to television
Determines a story's emphasis, length, and format, and organizes material accordingly
Research and analyze background information related to news stories to be able to provide complete and accurate information
Gathers information about events through research, interviews, experience or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functions
Pitches on-brand local and trending stories during morning meetings
Check reference materials such as books, news files or public records to obtain relevant facts
Shoots and edits content for on-air and digital
Produces reports for all platforms
Ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
Builds and calendars digital campaigns to promote local shows and specials.
Writes stories for the web and other digital platforms
Performs other duties as assigned
Finds new ways to use Social Media and our website to engage with viewers
Requirements & Skills:
Degree in journalism; daily newspaper or news site experience required; live, working web samples and/or print pages preferred
Proficiency in Associated Press style, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Basic HTML preferred
CSS, Flash and other relevant technology skills is a plus
Maintain positive work environment through active team participation and cooperation with co-workers in all departments
Responds positively to feedback

Costco Members Cautioned Against Using Their Membership Card—Don't Use It As a REAL ID
Costco is a popular big-box membership warehouse club, offering discounted prices on brand-name merchandise in bulk and non-bulk sizes. Costco is actually the third-largest retailer in the world, only behind Walmart and Amazon, and is a Fortune 500 company. "With hundreds of locations worldwide, Costco provides a wide selection of merchandise, plus the convenience of specialty departments and exclusive member services, all designed to make your shopping experience a pleasurable one," the company states on their website. To shop at Costco, members have to own a membership card. The Costco "Gold Star Membership" card includes two card and the ability to shop online and in warehouses. For those who want to up their game, the Costco "Executive Membership" package also includes an annual 2% reward and Costco services discounts. But, Costco customers are being told not to use their membership card for one specific thing. The TSA is showing their frustration with travelers who are not showing them a REAL ID to take a flight, and they don't want passengers to think that their Costco card counts as a proper REAL ID. "In a Facebook post shared on June 4, the TSA stated a Costco membership card is not, in any way, an acceptable form of identification to get on a plane. Yes, people are actually trying to use their Costco cards to get on aiplanes. 'We love hotdogs & rotisserie chickens as much as the next person," the TSA stated in their post, "but please stop telling people their Costco card counts as a REAL ID because it absolutely does not." Beginning May 7, the majority of adult citizens taking a flight in the U.S. must show either a passport or upgraded identification card that meets federal REAL ID standards. DTA ‘Pathways to Work' program celebrates its participants
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Healey-Driscoll Administration is celebrating residents who have transitioned from public assistance to meaningful employment. The Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) provides services and benefits to over 1.2 million people in the state. When families ask for SNAP or cash assistance, they are offered other opportunities, such as different programs. How many families are in Massachusetts emergency housing assistance One of the programs is called 'Pathways to Work'. In this program, participants receive job and college readiness training. At the end, some may get a GED, a Hi-Set, or a new job. It all comes at their own pace. 'There were times where I, I wasn't able to attain a job due to unforseen circumstances, and because of DTA and the programs that they do require for us, I was able to succeed, save money and become the person I did want to become,' Pathways To Work participant Crystal Ortiz said. The celebration recognized the participants who finished the program. One client ended up getting a job as a career coach through DTA. There was also a panel discussion, testimonies, and remarks from DTA leaders. Holyoke Stop & Shop celebrates remodel
HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Stop & Shop on Lincoln Street in Holyoke held its grand opening as the newly remodeled location will offer more variety for its customers. The new remodel includes a fresh new look for the produce and bakery departments as well as over 300 new products across the store. Some of which include popular Puerto Rican and Latin American favorites and Asian meal starters and marinades. Also added was an expanded grab-and-go area for prepared foods. How many families are in Massachusetts emergency housing assistance Store Manager Mark Chapdelaine spoke on what has changed inside the store, 'Produce has been greatly expanded, we have a lot more variety. We have all brand new shelving, a much cleaner look, just an easier shopping experience. I think most people would enjoy it if they came in here.' As part of the ribbon-cutting celebration, Stop & Shop will present Holyoke Community Charter School with a $15,000 check to fight food insecurity amongst students.
