China's new Type 076 Sichuan is a next-level amphibious assault ship
The new-generation
Type 076 assault ship will feature an advanced electromagnetic catapult launch system, allowing a wider variety of aircraft to take off more frequently during an amphibious attack.
The flat-top vessel will serve as a fleet command centre that will enable drones, helicopters, fighters and landing craft to approach an adversary's coast.

Its unprecedented size, launch ability and expected drone transport role will position it as a light, regionally based aircraft carrier that can be deployed to potential flashpoints in the
South China Sea and the Taiwan Strait.
First for an assault ship
The Sichuan, which was first spotted on satellite images in 2023, was officially launched as the first Type 076 ship in December with the hull number 51.
The vessel is undergoing equipment tests, mooring and sea trials, and is expected to be commissioned by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) by the end of 2026.
The warship is an upgrade over China's first amphibious assault ship – the
Type 075 – which was launched in 2019 and went into service 19 months later.

China was expected to remain the largest data centre market in the Asia-Pacific region, with growth projected to accelerate at about 20 per cent annually through 2030, as the sector enjoyed 'strong policy support' and domestic operators were set to receive increased government backing, the report said. Alibaba, ByteDance kick off campus recruitment campaigns as AI drives growth
Chinese tech giants Alibaba Group Holding and ByteDance are targeting fresh graduates in separate recruitment campaigns, a sign of their confidence in future growth driven by AI adoption. Taobao and Tmall Group, Alibaba's e-commerce unit, kicked off its global recruitment campaign on Tuesday, offering an unspecified number of roles to students who were due to graduate between November 2025 and October 2026. According to the job posting, half of the roles would be related to artificial intelligence, as the group promised to spend more resources on training 'algorithm and AI talent'. Alibaba owns the South China Morning Post. Alibaba has also been driving a global AI recruitment initiative . The AI Clouder Programme, co-organised by its Alibaba Cloud unit and Tongyi Lab, aims to 'identify and nurture top-tier AI talent for the new era'. Separately, TikTok and Douyin owner ByteDance was offering 5,000 jobs to fresh graduates as part of its 2026 campus recruitment campaign. According to the ByteDance job posting, students who finish their studies between September 2025 and August 2026 could apply for 'research and development' roles, marking a 23 per cent increase from last year's campus recruitment figure, while the number of 'product' jobs available would double.

Tesla EV shipments slip from China factory as drivers choose cheaper local options
Deliveries by Tesla 's Shanghai Gigafactory dropped in July as the US maker of electric vehicles (EVs) failed to sustain sales growth amid rising competition from domestic rivals. The factory handed 67,886 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles to customers in mainland China and abroad in July, down 8.4 per cent from a year earlier, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). Deliveries fell 5.2 per cent from June. 'Premium models are increasingly losing their lustre among Chinese consumers because they want to save money,' said Tian Maowei, a sales manager at Yiyou Auto Service in Shanghai. 'Consumers all flocked to cheaper, Chinese-developed electric cars.' The sales decline came just one month after the Shanghai plant ended an eight-month decline with an increase in deliveries. The Gigafactory, Tesla's largest production base worldwide, reported a total of 432,360 deliveries between January and July this year, down 13.7 per cent from a year earlier. The figure includes sales on the mainland and exports. On the mainland, EV sales jumped 35 per cent to 7.6 million units in the first seven months of 2025, according to the CPCA.
