Bengaluru: Two More Driverless Coaches For Namma Metro's Yellow Line Dispatched From Bengal
Titagarh Rail speeds up delivery of new coaches as Bengaluru inches closer to the Yellow Line's grand August launch.
Two more coaches for the Namma Metro's Yellow Line were dispatched on Monday night by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), based in Bengal.
These are part of the fourth trainset for the 19.15-km RV Road–Bommasandra stretch. Four more coaches are ready and set to leave on Tuesday. Together, all six coaches will form a complete driverless train.
As per Deccan Herald, the dispatch had a slight hiccup due to heavy rainfall in Kolkata. Originally, three coaches were supposed to leave on Monday night, but only two made the journey.
When Will the Trainset Reach Bengaluru?
The trainset is expected to arrive in Bengaluru within the next two weeks. However, its journey depends on road conditions and traffic, since the coaches are transported on trailers with strict size and speed limits.
Once it arrives, the trainset will undergo a two-week testing phase on the Yellow Line before it begins passenger service.
Is the Yellow Line Finally Opening?
BMRCL is preparing to open the much-awaited Yellow Line in August. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety recently inspected the corridor, and his report is due any day now. The line is likely to open with three trains running every 20 minutes—regardless of peak hours.
TRSL is building trains under a sub-contract with China's CRRC Nanjing Puzhen, who secured a Rs 1,578 crore deal for 36 trainsets. Of these, 15 are for the Yellow Line.
BMRCL has already received four trains. The fifth trainset is scheduled for dispatch in August, and the sixth will follow by September. All 15 Yellow Line trains are expected to arrive by March 2026. Once that happens, the wait time during peak hours could drop to just five minutes.

Ghaziabad plans a four-lane flyover to unclog Hapur Chungi junction
Ghaziabad: Hapur Chungi intersection, one of the city's major traffic bottlenecks, is set to get a four-lane flyover soon, district officials said. The move is aimed at decongesting the area, which sees heavy vehicular movement daily due to the convergence of multiple high-volume routes, including NH-9, NH-58, and the Alt Center, with no grade separation to streamline the traffic flow. The administration has directed the UP Bridge Corporation to submit a detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed project within two weeks. The flyover, proposed to be 800 metres long and four lanes wide, is expected to cost around Rs 98 crore. The move aims to ease traffic on one of the busiest road stretches in the city, where vehicles from NH-9 heading toward Shastrinagar, Meerut, Delhi, and Hapur district frequently get caught in snarls. It will also ease traffic moving from Delhi and Sahibabad via Mohan Nagar and Thakurdwara en route to Hapur. DM Ravindra Kumar Mandar said, "Once DPR is received, it will be sent to the state govt for approval, and the construction is expected to be completed within the next one year. The project cost will be borne by the state Public Works Department, which also holds the stretch of the road where this construction will happen." The DM said that apart from the flyover, the administration is also working on addressing local traffic congestion issues. During his inspection of the Collectorate area earlier this week, Mandar instructed officials to expand parking facilities in the complex, which often witnesses haphazard vehicle movement and overcrowding. "The goal is to bring visible improvements in the city's traffic management. We are looking at both short-term steps like better parking management and long-term infrastructure like new bridges to ensure smoother movement for residents," he added. Free three-day bus travel for women on Rakshabandhan
Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced free rides for women in all categories of UPSRTC buses for three days — Aug 8 morning till midnight on Aug 10 — on Rakshabandhan. Women can travel with one co-passenger for a free ride. Transport minister Dayashankar Singh has ordered plying of maximum number of buses between Aug 7 and Aug 12 to avoid any inconvenience to people. The minister directed that 100% of buses must be operational during Rakshabandhan and instructed all officers to be on duty unless faced with adverse circumstances. To manage the increased demand, regions have been asked to deploy additional buses, including contracted ones, as needed. To ensure safe travel, checking teams have been tasked with conducting breath analyzer tests on drivers and conductors to check for alcohol consumption. Additionally, buses have been directed to pick up passengers not only at designated stoppages but also those waiting along the route. Drivers and conductors, including the contractual ones, who are present during the six-day period and complete the operation of 1800 km by operating the bus daily, will get an incentive of Rs 1,200. Besides, on working for six days during the incentive period and earning more km than the prescribed km, additional payment at the rate of 55 paise per km will be payable to the drivers and conductors. Similarly, if the technical staff of the depot and regional workshop are present every day during this period, they will receive a one-time incentive amount of Rs 500. Because the availability of passengers is more at Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Meerut, Bareilly, Lucknow, Saharanpur, Agra, Aligarh, Kanpur, and Etawah bus stations, officers and employees will be put on duty at the said bus stations as per requirement.
