Man who flew in from Bangkok arrested with ‘14 kg of marijuana' in Surat airport
A passenger of an international flight from Bangkok to Surat was apprehended by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials, who allegedly seized 14 kilograms of hydroponic ganja (marijuana) worth Rs 14 crore from him. The accused, who is from Rajasthan, was produced before a Surat court and sent to judicial custody at Surat jail on Thursday. Officials had apprehended Ajaz Khan (27), a resident of Jaipur, at the Surat International Airport on Wednesday after he was making a 'suspicious move'. They recovered the alleged drugs from his luggage, and took his passport, travel tickets, and other documents. Khan was arrested under different sections of the NDPS Act and the Customs Act. After primary questioning, the accused allegedly confessed that he was hired by a person in Jaipur, allegedly saying, 'He offered me an international trip by air, brought me a parcel from Bangkok, and paid Rs 15,000 for the journey.' He also allegedly confessed to being instructed to deliver it to a person waiting for him in a black car at the Surat airport parking lot. Sources in the DRI said that drug suppliers in India 'provide all travel, accommodation and other expenses'. Officials said they did not find a black car in the parking lot, but are retrieving data on his mobile phone to find more information. They are trying to figure out the name and details of the alleged drug cartel member in Rajasthan and the person who allegedly hired him. DRI sources said that the accused was working as a petty labourer at Jaipur. The accused had travelled from Rajasthan to Mumbai and flew on August 11 to Bangkok. The accused had first 'argued against carrying ganja', but 'had to compromise with no other option'.

Absconding BSF constable held in Kolkata for duping woman of Rs 29 lakh
Last Updated: Kolkata, Aug 21 (PTI) A BSF constable, who had been absconding for over a year, was arrested here for allegedly duping a woman of Rs 29 lakh by luring her into a relationship and promising to help her purchase a petrol pump, a senior police officer said on Thursday. Accused Gautam Halder, a native of Tehatta in West Bengal's Nadia district, was posted at the BSF office in Rajarhat when he met the woman at an event in Gariahat. According to the officer, Halder gradually built a romantic relationship with the woman and convinced her they would start a life together. 'Halder convinced the woman that they would start a new life together and proposed investing in a petrol pump. The woman handed over Rs 29 lakh as advance. Shortly after receiving the money, Halder disappeared and cut off all contacts with the victim," the officer said. A missing person report was filed by his wife in Tehatta, while BSF intelligence also began searching for the accused, he said. The victim woman lodged a formal complaint at Gariahat police station. 'It was a bit difficult to trace Halder, as he had switched off his mobile phone. We examined his old call records and identified contacts he had reached out to using a new number. Tracking those leads, our officers discovered that Halder had assumed a false identity and was working as a manager at a sweet shop in Buroshibtala, Behala," he added. A team from Gariahat police station conducted a raid at the shop and arrested Halder, the officer said, adding that the accused is currently being interrogated.
