Orlando Pirates overshadow Kaizer Chiefs in latest Bafana squad
Orlando Pirates have 11 players in the latest preliminary Bafana Bafana squad. Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs can only boast three.
Sipho Chaine, Deano van Rooyen, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Simphiwe Selepe, Thalente Mbatha, Evidence Makgopa, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Patrick Maswanganyi, Rele Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota are the 11 Sea Robbers stars in the group. Bruce Bvuma, Yusuf Maart and Mduduzi Shabalala are the Chiefs trio included. Check the whole squad out below:
Hlompho Kekana is a huge fan of Makhehlene Makhaula's industry in midfield for the Sea Robbers. The 35-year-old, however, isn't in this latest Bafana squad.
'This is my Player for the Season [Makhehleni Makhaula],' said Kekana on SABC Sport's Soccer Zone. Orlando Pirates midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula vs Mamelodi Sundowns at the Loftus Versveld. Image: BackpagePix.

Nwabali; Solomons, Msimango, Miguel, Dortley; Cele, Maart; Duba, Kingsley Michael, Lilepo; Mayele.
Mduduzi Shabalala could be out in the cold at the outset of the 2025-2026 season after being overlooked as a starter in the Nedbank Cup. Nigerian midfielder Kingsley Michael is a tempting prospect, while his compatriot Stanley Nwabali knows all about goalkeeping in the PSL. Rumours of a big-money move for Pyramids striker Fiston Mayele also refuse to die down.

Orlando Pirates find replacement for Paseka Mako?
Two left-backs are not enough at clubs like Orlando Pirates to compete in the Betway Premiership , especially with the CAF Champions League returning to the Orlando Stadium next season. Paseko Mako has left the club, minus one left-back. According to this report, the Sea Robbers need an addition to compete and cover for Deon Hotto and Yanga Madiba . Kick Off believes that SuperSport United and Amajita captain Neo Rapoo has been noticed by the Orlando Pirates scouts. Rapoo, hailing from Lonehill, Johannesburg, made his senior debut at Matsatsantsa in 2022 just after his 17th birthday. Since then, Rapoo has earned 22 games despite a lengthy injury in the winter of 2024. 'Neo is one of the players that the scouts at Orlando Pirates have identified,' Kick Off reported. 'The club has already made inquiries about the availability of the player for next season,' a source added to the outlet. Rapoo also captained South Africa's U20 team at the Afcon championship in Morocco in May, including a crucial goal against Sierra Leone in Group A. Kaizer Chiefs star set to survive the big chop!
Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to reshuffle their squad ahead of the 2025/26 season with a crucial window approaching. Despite winning the Nedbank Cup, Chiefs finished outside the top eight for a second consecutive campaign. Chiefs have been linked to a whole multitude of players who could help the club rediscover their glory days. the likes of Fiston Mayele, Etiosa Ighodaro, Robert Polievka mentioned as strikers. In the wingers department Oswin Appollis, Elias Mokwana, Mihlali Mayambela and Keletso Makgalwa have been touted. There have been talks of Amakhosi adding playmakers to their squad such as Feisal Salum, Rowan Human and Sipho Mbule. So far, it is the defensive players that Chiefs are heavily linked with and thought to have signed. The likes of Thabiso Monyane , Paseka Mako , Aphiwe Baliti and Ime Okon. Some of those defensive signings are expected to influence some of the projected outgoings set to be announced. The arrival of the three full backs in Monyane, Mako and Baliti will come as a welcome boost. Chiefs struggled both on the right and left side of tcheir defence especially after Reeve Frosler's injury. The now released Njabulo Blom filled in at right-back initially before he also suffered from bad form. In the end, that gave an unlikely opportunity to Dillan Solomons to revive his Amakhosi career. Now according to FARPost, his end of season run-in may have saved his stay at the club. 'While Solomons showed several shortcomings in his game, Nabi lacked an alternative in that position. Njabulo Blom reportedly refused to play right-back, insisting he preferred holding midfield. Monyane arrives and is expected to compete with Frosler for a starting role. The Steenberg-born talent, Solomons, signed a four-year contract upon joining Chiefs in 2022 and has one year remaining. The Soweto giants are likely to retain him as a squad player, making him their third option at right-back.' Wrote the publication. Chiefs fans are you happy with Solomons staying or is his time supposed to be up at the club? Let us know by clicking on the comment tab. Or by emailing info@ or sending a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
