This is Hamlin's 56th career victory, moving to 11th all-time and breaking a tie with Rusty Wallace.
William Byron swept the first two stages, leading all 185 laps in those stages and became the second driver since stage racing began in 2017 to lead each lap of the first two stages. Chase Elliott was the first to do so in the 2022 Martinsville race.
Byron led 243 laps but a late green flag pit stop left Byron behind, he finished second.

Denny Hamlin to miss NASCAR's Mexico City race following birth of son
MEXICO CITY — Denny Hamlin will not race at the inaugural Cup Series event this weekend in Mexico City after the birth of his son Wednesday. Joe Gibbs Racing reserve driver Ryan Truex will drive the No. 11 Cup car at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. The son was the third child for Hamlin and fiancée Jordan Fish. "We are happy to announce the birth of our son," Hamlin said in a statement. "Everyone is doing well. My main priority is to be here at home for Jordan and our family over the next few days when she is able to go home and we transition to life as a family of five. "I appreciate everyone at Joe Gibbs Racing, our partners, and our fans for the support over the last few weeks and I look forward to being back at the track next weekend in Pocono." JGR will have to ask for a waiver from NASCAR for Hamlin to remain playoff eligible despite missing a race. NASCAR implemented a policy earlier this year that only a waiver granted for medical reasons would allow a driver to retain all playoff points earned during the regular season. The birth of a child is expected to be included in that. "JGR supports Hamlin in his decision," the team said in its news release announcing Truex would race the car. Truex, the younger brother of former JGR driver Martin Truex Jr., spends several hours each week in a racing simulator to help JGR with its baseline setups and has been on standby the last couple of weeks as Fish's due date was last week. Hamlin won last Sunday at Michigan, his third win of the year. "If [the birth] causes me to miss a race, it's one of 701 races that I missed and it's just not that big of a deal," Hamlin said at the time. Hamlin has made 406 consecutive starts, having last missed a race in 2014 when he missed the race at California Speedway because of an object in his eye. It will be Truex's first Cup start since 2014, when he competed in 23 races for BK Racing. Bob Pockrass covers NASCAR and IndyCar for FOX Sports. Alex Bowman Injury Scare Prompts Standby Driver for Cup Race in Mexico
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Alex Bowman admitted last weekend that the massive crash at Michigan International Speedway was the hardest hit he had taken in a stock car. While he is all set to race in the Cup Series in Mexico this weekend, Hendrick Motorsports has a reserve driver on standby in case Bowman is unable to participate. Bowman was involved in a collision with four other cars that led to a high-intensity impact with the wall. Hendrick Motorsports has confirmed that Anthony Alfredo will be the backup driver at Mexico just in case Bowman is not okay to race. The incident was triggered by contact between the No. 41 and No. 2 cars, which then spread across the track. This caused Bowman's car to hit the wall head-on, bringing out the red flag. Alex Bowman, driver of the #48 Ally Chevrolet, waves to fans as he walks onstage during driver intros prior to the NASCAR Cup Series FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway on June 08, 2025 in Brooklyn, Michigan. MoreNewsweek Sports reported Bowman's reaction after the incident that put him out of the race. He said: "It happened so fast that I didn't even see them. I didn't know who hit me until I saw the video. It's always turbulent in the 300th. It's crazy back there. It gets wild and that is part of racing. It's wild all through the field. "Unfortunately, the further back you get, the less downforce cars have, the dirtier the air, the situations you're in, and the worst everybody stuff drives. So stuff like this tends to happen." He added: "I feel okay. It was the biggest hit I've ever taken in a stock car by a mile. Head-on into the wall at Michigan, it's gonna be that way. Try to go get them next week." NBC Sports' Dustin Long reported on X that Bowman will be racing this weekend at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, but Xfinity driver Anthony Alfredo will be the backup driver in case a need arises. He wrote: "#NASCAR ... Hendrick Motorsports states that Alex Bowman will be in the 48 this weekend at Mexico after his Michigan crash but that Anthony Alfredo will be the backup driver if needed. Alfredo is competing in the Xfinity Series race here at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez." #NASCAR ... However, that won't stop him from racing this weekend. He wrote: "The team says that Alex Bowman was evaluated for back pain after his crash at Michigan but is slated to race this weekend. Anthony Alfredo, who does all the team's simulator work, will be on standby for him this weekend."
