Hotel employee posing as Indian Air Force officer to ‘impress women' arrested in Pune
The police have identified the accused as Gauravkumar Dineshkumar, a resident of Varad Vinayak Apartment in Kharadi, and a native of Uttar Pradesh. A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against him at Kharadi police station under section 168 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, for wearing a military uniform illegally.
According to the police, the accused, a college dropout, had been allegedly posting his photographs in an IAF uniform on social media to cheat people.
Acting on a tip-off from MI, a police team led by Assistant Inspector Saheba Pote nabbed the accused at his residence in Kharadi. The team seized IAF badges in Hindi and English, another badge stating 'Proud Air Force Wife', an Air Force jacket and t-shirts, an Army cap, and Air Force shoes from the accused.
The accused allegedly burnt two Air Force uniforms about a month before, as stated in the FIR.
Sources said the accused was arrested by the Delhi Police in a similar case in 2022, when he was nabbed in the Air Force station area of the national capital. 'He was found wearing the Air Force shoes in the wrong manner. So, when the Air Force authorities questioned him, it was learnt that he was a conman, and was then placed under arrest by the Delhi Police. Later, he was granted bail,' said a source.
The police said the accused then shifted to Pune, and started working at a hotel in the city. Sources said he allegedly bought two IAF uniforms from a tailor in the Lohegaon area. The police said he allegedly posted his images on social media to impress women, and is also suspected to have participated in some Army event posing as an Air Force officer.
The police said further investigation is underway.

At this time, Hiral Vyas, a native of Rajasthan, and Mohammed Sarbaj, a native of Kerala, arrived at the spot and got into an argument with the police. According to the police, the accused verbally abused the officers on duty and behaved indecently. The FIR states that they also made lewd gestures toward the female police officer. Following the incident, the traffic police filed a complaint, and a case was registered at the Yelahanka New Town Police Station under Sections 132, 352, 79, 75, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The police investigated the matter and arrested both the accused. Following the arrest, the police made a Reels video using the photos of the two accused and shared it on social media. HC commutes life term of ex-operative to 10 years RI
Kochi: Kerala high court commuted the life sentence imposed on Subahani Haja alias Haja Moidheen of Thodupuzha, an accused in an Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) case for allegedly joining the proscribed terrorist organisation ISIS and fighting for them in Mosul, Iraq, in 2015, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. A bench comprising Justices V Raja Vijayaraghavan and K V Jayakumar on Thursday, while considering Haja's appeal challenging his conviction and sentence, upheld the rest of the findings and sentences imposed on him by a special court under various sections of UAPA and IPC. According to the prosecution, Haja travelled to Istanbul in Turkey on a tourist visa in April 2015, crossed the border into Iraq and underwent physical and arms training in Mosul. He was deployed on the war front but sustained an injury during training and was hospitalised. Following repeated requests, he was allowed to return to India in Sept 2015, after which he worked as a salesman-cum-accountant at Kadayanallur, Tamil Nadu, for about a year. In 2016, NIA arrested him upon receiving information about his association with ISIS. On appeal, the division bench noted that the offences committed by Haja were grave and serious. However, it also considered the absence of prior criminal antecedents, his expression of repentance and the possibility of reformation. The court observed that after his return from Iraq, no specific overt acts were alleged against him except for an unsuccessful attempt to procure explosives. Further, it found that the special court had not stated any reason for awarding the maximum sentence under Section 20 of UAPA. Operation Sindoor: 2 BSF personnel awarded Vir Chakra posthumously; 16 others to get gallantry medal
NEW DELHI: Two BSF martyrs will be conferred Vir Chakra and 16 other personnel, police gallantry medals for having fought shoulder-to-shoulder with the armed forces during Operation Sindoor , successfully defending sensitive border posts in Jammu and Kashmir and destroying enemy posts and their surveillance equipment in firm retaliatory action. Both the Vir Chakra awardees -- late Sub-Inspector Mohd Imteyaj and late Constable Deepak Chingakham -- will be honoured for valiantly defending the highly-sensitive border outpost Kharkola in Jammu, which is barely 200 m from the international border, against intense shelling and drone attacks by the enemy. BSF troops led by post commander Imteyaj mounted a precise and resolute retaliation, inflicting heavy damages to the counterpart post and their gun positions. During the wee hours of May 10, Imteyaj spotted rogue drones intruding over Kharkola with an intent to drop explosive payloads or guide mortar fire, and tactically moved out from the bunker and reorganised his troops to successfully neutralise an enemy drone. Deputy commandant Ravindra Rathore and his team — Inspector Devi Lal, HC Sahib Singh and constable Kanwaraj Singh — successfully implemented an operation for the safety of a BSF Jawan whose life was in peril. During a coordinated assault by Pakistani troops on May 9-10 on BSF BOPs Karotana Khurd, Karotana Forward and Suchetgarh, BOP Karotana Khurd reported a critical shortage of AGS ammunition. ASI(GD) Rajappa B T and CT(GD) Manohar Xalxo undertook the risky mission to resupply ammunition but a mortar shell exploded near the magazine, grievously injuring Rajappa and wounding Xalxo's right hand. Still, both completed the task.
