Minister Tummala reviews handloom schemes
Highlighting the enduring cultural value of silk, cotton, and handloom products, the Minister expressed satisfaction that modern youth were embracing handloom traditions. He praised Telangana's rich handloom legacy, citing iconic crafts such as Gadwala, Narayanpet, Pochampally Ikkat, Siddipet Gollabhama, Armur Pithambari, Mahadevpur Tussar silk sarees, Warangal durries, Karimnagar bed sheets, and Alampur towels—all of which enjoy national and international recognition.
Tummala instructed the handloom societies concerned to actively display these products during the textile exhibition to be held as part of National Handloom Day celebrations. He stressed the importance of producing high-quality, competitive textiles and urged societies to align with consumer demand to improve visibility and growth.
On welfare initiatives, the Minister called for expediting the selection of beneficiaries under the Handloom Loan Waiver Scheme and ensuring the timely deposit of loan waiver funds into their accounts. He stressed accelerating the production of sarees to be distributed to women through self-help groups under the Indira Kranti Mahila Shakti Scheme, ensuring both quality and timely delivery.
Tummala mentioned that work orders were being continuously generated from various government departments to support weavers in producing empowerment-focused textile items.
He reiterated the importance of fully enforcing the Telangana Handloom Abhayahastam scheme—which includes savings, assurance, and security measures—for the welfare of weavers.
Principal Secretary Sailajaramaiyar and senior officials from the department took part in the meeting, committing to implement the Minister's directives and strengthen Telangana's handloom sector with renewed focus and inclusive growth.

Handloom societies get chance to sell products at PGRS
Ongole: Prakasam district joint collector R Gopala Krishna stressed that supporting handloom products is everyone's responsibility. He participated as the chief guest in the National Handloom Day celebrations at the Collectorate here on Thursday. Speaking at the event attended by handloom workers, he highlighted the crucial role of handloom products in the freedom movement. He emphasised the collective responsibility to preserve the handloom sector, which has withstood the test of time. He announced government initiatives to support the historically significant handloom industry through electricity subsidies, GST concessions, and financial assistance to weaver families. He assured prompt action to clear pending dues from APCOB to handloom societies. The JC announced that the administration will provide opportunities for societies to sell handloom products during Monday grievance sessions at the Collector's office. He appealed to the public to support handloom products as another freedom movement. District Lead Bank Manager Ramesh announced expedited approval of Mudra loans for weavers. He announced that under the Mudra scheme, 217 applications were received in 2024-25, with 27 beneficiaries sanctioned loans worth Rs 26 lakh. Twenty individual work sheds valued at Rs 1.2 lakh each were approved under the Comprehensive Handloom Cluster Development Scheme. Assistant Director of Handlooms Raghunandan revealed that 1,762 handloom workers over 50 years receive a monthly NTR pension of Rs 4,000 in the district. The joint collector and the officials honoured handloom workers during the ceremony, which was preceded by a rally from Prakasam Bhavan to the Ambedkar statue.

Nabard, IIT-R charting ‘Handloom Roadmap'
Guwahati: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) on Thursday said it is preparing a 'Handloom Roadmap' for Assam in association with IIT-Roorkee. Speaking at a function on National Handloom Day, NABARD Chief General Manager (Assam Region) Loken Das highlighted the bank's major contributions to the state's handloom sector and said over 8,000 weavers have benefitted from various initiatives undertaken by the lender over the last few years. 'NABARD, in collaboration with IIT Roorkee, is preparing a comprehensive Handloom Roadmap for Assam. This roadmap aims to provide strategic guidance and ensure sustainable, long-term development of the state's vibrant handloom sector,' he added. Das, however, did not share further details, such as a possible timeline to complete the draft of the document.

Govt weaving higher income plan for handloom sector
New Delhi: Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh on Thursday said all 797 handloom clusters across the country need to be connected with entrepreneurs to expand the reach of such products in both domestic as well as global markets. Addressing a National Handloom Day event, the minister said that linking weavers with entrepreneurs would help raise their annual income to Rs10 lakh. He also informed that 100 handloom and handicraft artisans have been onboarded to an e-platform to increase the global reach of handloom products. 'Today, 100 artisans have been onboarded onto an e-platform for Indian handloom products to reach overseas. I hope in the coming days, we will connect lakhs of handloom weavers. It is my wish and PM Modi's direction that their average annual income be at least Rs8-10 lakh,' Singh said at the Handloom Day function. It was not immediately officially clear why President Draupadi Murmu did not attend the function, but sources said she was unwell. The minister also expressed the desire for a startup programme to be launched to invite proposals on how the handloom technology can be upgraded to increase its production. 'I want all the 797 clusters in the country to be connected to entrepreneurs so that handloom products can reach domestic as well as overseas markets in large numbers,' Singh said. Addressing the handloom workers, the minister said, 'Your designs are stolen by foreign designers and converted into their own designs. I am making arrangements through my department to ensure that your designs are not stolen by anyone, by connecting them (the designs) to Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain technology'.
