Ericsson's Q2 profit beats expectations, says North America growth was good
Operating profit excluding restructuring charges was 7.0 billion crowns ($728.5 million) against a year-earlier loss of 11.9 billion and a mean forecast of 6.1 billion in an LSEG poll of analysts.
"We have structurally lowered our cost base and are strongly focused on delivering further efficiencies," CEO Borje Ekholm said in a statement.
The company said sales in its Americas segment grew 10 per cent on the back of good growth in its biggest market North America.
"In North America, sales in Networks and Cloud Software and Services increased, benefiting from previous contract wins," it said.
Group sales fell 6 per cent to 56.1 billion crowns, against a mean forecast of 59.3 billion in the poll. Organic sales however grew 2 per cent.
Ericsson said tariffs dampened profit margin growth at its Networks segment.
It said increased uncertainty remains on the company's outlook, both in terms of potential for further tariff changes as well as in the broader macroeconomic environment.

Allianz Life says majority of customers' data stolen in hack
U.S. insurance giant Allianz Life said on Saturday that hackers stole the personal information of the majority of its customers, financial professionals, and select Allianz Life employees. The insurance giant's filing with Maine's attorney general did not immediately provide the number of customers affected. As per the filing, the data breach, which the company described as a hack, occurred on July 16 and was discovered on July 17. The data breach was first reported by TechCrunch. "On July 16, 2025, a malicious threat actor gained access to a third-party, cloud-based CRM system used by Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (Allianz Life). The threat actor was able to obtain personally identifiable data related to the majority of Allianz Life's customers, financial professionals, and select Allianz Life employees, using a social engineering technique," a spokesperson for Allianz Life told Reuters in an emailed statement. The insurance giant said it notified the FBI and based on its ongoing investigation that there is no evidence the Allianz Life network or other company systems were accessed, including their policy administration system.

NASA says 20% of workforce to depart space agency
WASHINGTON :About 20 per cent of the employees at the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration are set to depart the space agency, a NASA spokesperson said on Friday. Meta names ChatGPT co-creator as chief scientist of Superintelligence Lab
NEW YORK :Meta Platforms has appointed Shengjia Zhao, co-creator of ChatGPT, as chief scientist of its Superintelligence Lab, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on Friday, as the company accelerates its push into advanced AI. "In this role, Shengjia will set the research agenda and scientific direction for our new lab working directly with me and Alex," Zuckerberg wrote in a Threads post, referring to Meta's Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang, who Zuckerberg hired from startup Scale AI when Meta took a big stake in it. Zhao, a former research scientist at OpenAI, co-created ChatGPT, GPT-4 and several of OpenAI's mini models, including 4.1 and o3. He is among several researchers who have moved from OpenAI to Meta in recent weeks, part of a broader talent arms race as Zuckerberg aggressively hires from rivals to close the gap in advanced AI. Meta has been offering some of Silicon Valley's most lucrative pay packages and striking startup deals to attract top researchers, a strategy that follows the underwhelming performance of its Llama 4 model. Meta launched the Superintelligence Lab recently to consolidate work on its Llama models and long‑term artificial general intelligence ambitions. Zhao is a co-founder of the lab, according to the Threads post, which operates separately from FAIR, Meta's established AI research division led by deep learning pioneer Yann LeCun. Zuckerberg has said Meta aims to build 'full general intelligence' and release its work as open source — a strategy that has drawn both praise and concern within the AI community.
