RESERVES: Wire run riot after 'extremely frustrating' start

Yahoo17-03-2025

WARRINGTON Wolves' reserves turned on the style to extend their winning start to the season on Saturday.
They had to overcome what head coach Ryan O'Brien labelled an 'extremely frustrating' first quarter which featured them conceding in the very first set of the game, but that was the extent of their hardship as they ran in 11 tries against Leigh Leopards.
Three of those went to Frank Sergent as he completed a hat-trick, with fellow winger Jake Thewlis bagging a brace in a 58-8 victory at Victoria Park.
Zack Gardner, Joe Hickey and Tom McKinney all touched down in the first half with Nolan Tupaea, Flynn Holden and Oliver Morgan scoring after the break.
Despite initially struggling and falling behind through a try from ex-Wolves centre Jack Darbyshire, who pounced on an error from a kick to touch down inside two minutes before adding another try after the break, O'Brien was pleased with how his players were able to ride out the danger and earn the right to express themselves.
However, he picked out an area in which he says his players will be working hard ahead of their next game – a trip to face Bradford Bulls on Friday, March 28.
'The first quarter was extremely frustrating - we were coughing up far too much ball and could not string back-to-back sets together,' he said.
'It was pleasing, though, that we were resilient when defending our goal-line for the second week in a row.
'We were very clinical with the ball but were not great at controlling the ruck without it, so we need to spend a fair bit of time working on that over the coming weeks.'
Wolves: Flynn Holden; Frank Sergent, James Duffy, Zack Gardner, Jake Thewlis; Joe Hickey, Ewan Irwin; Logan Raughter, Ben Hartill, Luke Thomas, Ewan Smith, Nolan Tupaea, Tom Whitehead. Subs: Oliver Morgan, Tom McKinney, Isaac Reid, Joe Bajer. 18th man: Daniel Regan

England vs Senegal: Prediction, kick-off time, TV, live stream, team news, h2h results, odds

England are back in action this week as they host Senegal (The FA via Getty Images) England will look to sign off from international duty with a much improved performance against Senegal this week. The Three Lions take on Senegal in an international friendly on the back of an unconvincing win over Andorra at the weekend. Harry Kane's second half goal was enough for all three World Cup qualification points, but Thomas Tuchel was critical of the display afterwards. Advertisement Facing a side unbeaten in their last 15 games, the England players will have to raise their performance levels - even if some appear to be running on empty following a long season. Senegal, 'the Lions of Teranga' warmed up for this friendly with a 1-1 draw against the Republic of Ireland on Friday. They were staring defeat in the face until Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr equalised inside the final 10 minutes. Just a second ever meeting between the two nations awaits as Tuchel looks to extend his perfect winning record as England boss to four games. Date, kick-off time and venue England vs Senegal is scheduled for a 7.45pm BST kick-off on Tuesday, 10 June, 2025. Advertisement The match will take place at the City Ground, Nottingham. Where to watch England vs Senegal TV channel: In the UK, the game will be televised live on ITV. Coverage starts at 7pm BST on ITV1 ahead of kick-off at 7.45pm. Live stream: ITVX will offer a live stream service. Live blog: You can follow all the action on matchday via Standard Sport's live blog, with expert analysis from our reporters at the ground. England vs Senegal team news England expect to have Bukayo Saka fit after a minor fitness issue kept him out of the win over Andorra. The fact that the Arsenal star was present for the pre-match media conference was the first good sign regarding his availability. Advertisement Meanwhile, Tuchel has said he will name a much-changed team on Tuesday so that could see the likes of Declan Rice, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Eberechi Eze and Anthony Gordon all come into the starting line-up. Senegal came through their friendly against the Republic of Ireland with a clean bill of health still intact and head coach Pape Thiaw could had starts to Sarr, Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson and ex-Blues pair Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly. Boost: Bukayo Saka is set to feature against Senegal (The FA via Getty Images) England vs Senegal prediction For the first time in Tuchel's short reign as England manager, a tough test awaits. Regardless of the performances against Albania, Latvia and Andorra, the Three Lions delivered victories having been overwhelming favourites for all three fixtures. Advertisement This clash is a bit more harder to call as Senegal are in good form and have players to cause England problems. Still, a step up in opposition should see an improvement in performance and a slender win. England to win, 2-1 Head to head (h2h) history and results The two nations' only ever meeting so far came as recently as December 2022 at the World Cup in Qatar. Goals from Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Saka saw England run out comfortable 3-0 winners in the round of 16 showdown.
