Yankees Blockbuster? Why Latest $66 Million Trade Buzz Makes Perfect Sense

The New York Yankees need to find a third baseman in the next two weeks.
The Yankees came into the season with a lack of talent and depth at the position, but Oswaldo Cabrera's crushing injury handicapped the Yankees even further. Luckily for the Bronx Bombers, there's a slugger with over 30 home runs expected to hit the trade block.
Just Baseball's Giovanni Panicola recently joined the crowd of media members who believe Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suárez would be the perfect fit at third base for the Yankees.

Matthew Grimes Jr./"Suárez is the best possible fit for the Yankees. Adding a big-time rental bat with power that can extend an already scary lineup is ideal," Panicola wrote. "Suárez is having an amazing year so far, where he is hitting .250/.320/.569 with a wRC+ of 142 and 31 home runs, which is fourth in the MLB.
"Even though Suárez is a great fit for the Yankees, he is also a great fit for many other teams, which could increase his price tag. The challenge for the Yankees is giving a competitive offer that isn't too much with a farm system that is on the weaker side."
Suárez makes perfect sense for the Yankees under one circumstance: the Bronx Bombers can't afford to overpay for him.
With Suárez being a rental option, the Yankees would have the ability to re-sign him after the season, assuming they can trade for him, but the other 29 teams in baseball would be able to sign him, too.
If the Yankees were to cripple their farm system to acquire Suárez, but fell short of the World Series and lost the slugger in free agency, it would be looked at as a bone-headed decision.
But adding this kind of power to the same lineup as Aaron Judge would be the best-case scenario for Aaron Boone's team. Suárez will remain the best option for the Yankees until a trade is announced.

Yankees Predicted to Cut Ties With 25-Year-Old They 'Ruined' by Trade Deadline
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Third base for the New York Yankees has been manned by many players this season. Oswaldo Cabrera started the season there. Jazz Chisholm Jr. took over there after Cabrera's injury. Chisholm was then moved back to second base, leaving Jorbot Vivas and Oswald Peraza as the primary options in the hot corner. NEW YORK, NY - JULY 12: Oswald Peraza #18 of the New York Yankees looks on as he leaves the dugout before the game against the Chicago Cubs at Yankee Stadium on July 12, 2025... NEW YORK, NY - JULY 12: Oswald Peraza #18 of the New York Yankees looks on as he leaves the dugout before the game against the Chicago Cubs at Yankee Stadium on July 12, 2025 in New York, New York. More NewPeraza has seen the majority of the work recently, but his time could be coming to an end. The Yankees are reportedly doing their homework on the third base market, and FanSided's Thomas Carannante predicted that Peraza would not be on the 40-man roster by the time the trade deadline arrives. "All in all, the Yankees ruined Peraza with their preferential treatment of Anthony Volpe years ago," wrote Carannante. "It is what it is. On the other hand, Peraza has also done himself zero favors and has only validated the Yankees' decision to keep running Volpe out there every day. It seemed Peraza's ceiling could've been a valuable infield utility option, especially after Oswaldo Cabrera went down, but instead he's been one of the worst qualified MLB hitters to date. They will not find a trade partner here; it will be a clean DFA to welcome whoever it is that should be able to do far better." Peraza is slashing .150/.212/.242 this season. The Yankees have World Series aspirations, and they are not going to meet them if they keep trotting Peraza out to play third base. "Marco Rocco, a star player on Haddonfield (NJ) Little League Team — the reigning state champs — was suspended for his bat flip ahead of Thursday's state championship game. His father is seeking an emergency temporary restraining order that will allow him to play. Above is announcer Todd Frazier's Little League bat flip. Below is Marco's," he shared. Advertisement Bat flips are becoming more and more common. As long as you're not completely taunting an opposing player in extremely disrespectful fashion, you should be allowed to celebrate as you want. Sportsmanship is important, of course, but you don't want to take the fun away from the game, either. Hopefully, the league will reverse course on the suspension decision ahead of the state championship game on Thursday. Time is of the essence, as we're just days away from the game. Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever hold serve in WNBA Power Rankings after All-Star break
The second half of the WNBA season is upon us, and the Indiana Fever are looking to rattle off some wins to reclaim their spot among the league's best teams with a chance to make a deep postseason run. Unfortunately, Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark is being held out of their first action back from the All-Star break due to injury as she tries to recover for the stretch run. Without Clark, the Fever have been able to stay afloat, battling to a 12-11 record overall, which is not the most indicative of the talent lining their roster. Despite that, the Fever are holding serve in the most recent WNBA Power Rankings from ESPN, coming in at No. 4. 4. Indiana Fever (12-11) Previous ranking: 4 Next seven days: @ NY (July 22), vs. LV (July 24), @ CHI (July 27) How much of the season's second half will Caitlin Clark be able to play? She has been ruled out for Tuesday, which will mark the 11th regular-season game she's missed this year. She was also sidelined for the Commissioner's Cup final on July 1 and the All-Star Game. She is only 23 with many years ahead, so if her groin injury requires significant rest, it's possible the Fever could take a conservative approach and sit her indefinitely. - Michael Voepel, ESPN Caitlin Clark will miss the Indiana Fever's game against the New York Liberty tonight, July 22. Her next chance at a return comes on Thursday, July 24, when the Fever host the Las Vegas Aces. Should the Fever be extremely cautious with Caitlin Clark, her first action could be this upcoming weekend on July 27 when the Fever head to Chicago to take on Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky.
