‘Grave violations of humanity': Anwar urges global action on Gaza in call with Iranian leader
In a Facebook post, Anwar said that he reiterated the country's commitment on this matter during a phone call with Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian today.
He said Pezeshkian had expressed appreciation for Malaysia's firm stance on the issue of Gaza and urged Malaysia to continue leading diplomatic efforts to oppose the ongoing atrocities and acts of genocide in Palestine.
'I reiterated our consistent commitment not only through strong statements on the international stage, but also by working closely with regional and global leaders, including the Presidents of Indonesia, Turkiye, Brazil, and South Africa. The world must not remain silent in the face of such grave violations of humanity,' he posted.
Anwar said that during the phone conversation, he and Pezeshkian also discussed Malaysia-Iran bilateral relations and agreed to further strengthen the longstanding friendship, particularly in areas of mutual benefit.
'President Pezeshkian also extended an official invitation for me to visit Tehran, and I conveyed my appreciation for his readiness to deepen cooperation between our two countries,' the Prime Minister said.
In 2024, Iran was Malaysia's seventh-largest trading partner in West Asia with a trade volume of USD570 million (RM2.6 billion), an increase of 24.6 per cent compared to 2023.

MOE denies shielding parties in school bullying cases, vows full cooperation in Zara probe
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — The Ministry of Education (MOE) has reiterated that it will not compromise on any matter related to bullying in schools. Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said the ministry has never sought to shield any party involved in such incidents, contrary to certain allegations. 'The ministry will not compromise on any matter related to bullying. Secondly, MOE will not and has never attempted to protect anyone involved, as alleged,' he told the Dewan Rakyat today. He was responding to a supplementary question from Semporna MP Tan Sri Shafie Apdal, who referred to the ongoing bullying case involving Zara Qairina and asked what measures were being taken to protect students and ensure justice. Shafie also stressed that law enforcement must not protect any party involved, regardless of their identity. Wong said the ministry has always been ready to cooperate fully with police in assisting investigations at all levels. He added that the ministry has established guidelines and circulars (SPI) to address disciplinary issues and bullying in schools, which are enforced and updated periodically to strengthen preventive measures. Zara, 13, reportedly fell from the third floor of her school dormitory in Papar on July 16 and was pronounced dead the following day, amid widespread public concern over allegations that her death may have involved school bullying and a cover-up. The exhumation of her remains at the Tanjung Ubi Muslim Cemetery in Kampung Mesapol, Sipitang, was completed at 7.15pm on Saturday. They were later sent to Queen Elizabeth I Hospital (HQEI) for a post-mortem scheduled the following morning.

Australia will back Palestinian statehood at UN, PM says peace requires permanent state
SYDNEY, Aug 11 — Australia will recognise a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in September, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Monday. 'Until Israeli and Palestinian statehood is permanent, peace can only be temporary,' he told reporters. 'Australia will recognise the right of the Palestinian people to a state of their own.' Several countries, including France, Britian and Canada, have announced plans to recognise statehood for Palestinians since Israel launched a bombardment of Gaza nearly two years ago in response to the Hamas attacks.
