2026 Toyota bZ Woodland Is the Brand's New Outdoorsy Electric SUV

Car and Driver15-05-2025

The 2026 Toyota bZ Woodland joins the brand's expanding EV lineup as an adventure-ready option.
The new mid-size EV SUV has a 375-hp all-wheel-drive powertrain, an estimated 260-mile range, and a NACS charge port to access Tesla Superchargers.
Toyota hasn't said how much the bZ Woodland costs, but we expect the lone well-equipped model to start at around $50,000.
If you're like us, when you saw the new 2026 Toyota bZ Woodland, you said, "Golly, that thing sure looks a lot like the Subaru Trailseeker." It's great what two working eyes can do. It's also great that Toyota and Subaru have a strong bond, having birthed the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86 sports cars as well as the Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ EVs. The latter share a platform with the new bZ Woodland, though it's a half-foot longer and features mightier electric motors.
bZ Gets the Woodland Treatment
Unlike the regular Toyota bZ, the bigger Woodland variant has standard all-wheel drive, and its dual electric motors muster 375 horsepower (same as the Trailseeker). The Yota also features a battery with an estimated 67-kWh usable capacity, and Toyota says a full charge should provide up to 260 miles of range. The bZ Woodland comes standard with a NACS charge port, meaning it can connect to Tesla's vast network of DC fast-chargers (a.k.a. Superchargers). With the latter, Toyota claims the Woodland's battery can go from 10 to 80 percent state of charge in 30 minutes. Of course, there's an 11-kWh onboard charger too for Level 2 connections that can be installed at home.

While the Subaru Trailseeker and Toyota bZ Woodland look a lot alike, the Toyota has the brand's "hammerhead" front-end styling, which gives it a more distinctive lighting signature. The dark overfenders, roof-mounted cross-bars, and wavy body lines otherwise overlap. The Woodland has 8.3 inches of ground clearance, and it's available with all-terrain tires—improving its mild off-road cred. Even without the knobbier rubber, every Woodland rolls on 18-inch wheels with removable aero covers. The mid-size EV SUV can also tow up to 3500 pounds.
Inside, the bZ Woodland looks like Toyota's other EV models. That means a simple dash design with a high-mounted digital gauge cluster and a 14.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Every model has heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and the choice of black or brown upholstery.

The center console houses a rotary gear selector and a pair of wireless charging pads. To spiff things up a bit, Toyota offers a Premium package, which includes a JBL stereo with nine speakers instead of six, a panoramic sunroof, and ventilated front seats. You don't need to pay extra to access the Woodland's 30 cubic feet of cargo space, which is about two cubes more than you'll find in the regular bZ.
The 2026 Toyota bZ Woodland will reach dealerships sometime early next year. As for how much it will cost, we'll have to wait a while for official pricing. However, since it's only offered in a single well-equipped trim, we expect its base price will be a little higher than the Trailseeker ($45,000 est.), so we'd wager the bZ Woodland will start somewhere around $50K.

Toyota's $33B Shock Deal: Akio Toyoda Goes All-In to Break Up Japan's Old Corporate Order

Toyota (NYSE:TM) is making a move that could send tremors through Japan's boardrooms. In a surprise announcement, Toyota Industries a key supplier and the world's largest forklift maker confirmed it received a 4.7 trillion ($33 billion) take-private offer. The bid is led by a newly formed holding company backed by Toyota Motor and Toyota Fudosan, with chair Akio Toyoda committing 1 billion of his own cash. The offer comes in 11% below Toyota Industries' closing price, but it's still a 23% premium from before buyout rumors surfaced in April suggesting this may not just be a financial play, but a strategic overhaul of Japan's most entrenched industrial group. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 3 Warning Sign with TM. What's at stake isn't just control of a parts manufacturer. This is about untying the Toyota Group's famously tangled web of cross-shareholdings a legacy structure long criticized by Japan's regulators. Under the proposed deal, suppliers Aisin and Denso will exit their holdings, and Toyota Industries will sell its 9% stake in Toyota Motor back to the parent. A new three-owner structure will take its place: Toyota Motor, Toyota Fudosan, and Akio Toyoda himself. The group says this tighter structure will dynamically and swiftly accelerate collaboration across the mobility ecosystem but it also raises questions. Toyota Industries is shouldering 1.7 trillion in net debt, pushing enterprise value above 6 trillion. Some analysts warn there's little transparency in how this deal was priced, especially as the company plans to dump a significant portion of its cross-holdings. Still, the message is loud: Japan's largest corporate empire is leaning into governance reform and doing it on its own terms. With Toyoda putting skin in the game, and regulators watching closely, the move could signal a broader shakeup in Japan Inc. Parent-subsidiary listings and circular ownership structures have been under fire for years, but few have tackled them at this scale. If Toyota pulls this off, others may follow. If it stumbles, expect scrutiny. Either way, the old guard of Japanese capitalism might be entering its next act one untangled shareholding at a time. This article first appeared on GuruFocus.

Toyota recalls 443K Tacoma pickups for reverse light failures

This story was originally published on Automotive Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Automotive Dive newsletter. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing has recalled over 443,000 model year 2022-2025 Tacoma pickups, including hybrid models, for moisture intrusion in the rear taillight assemblies that can cause the vehicle's reverse lights to fail, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The problem is related to the adhesive securing a 'multi-layer vent patch' on the light assemblies that's designed to protect the units from water intrusion. The adhesive may separate due to thermal cycling and allow moisture to enter the light assembly, which can corrode the internal circuit board, connectors or wiring harness and cause the reverse lamp to not illuminate. Dealers will replace both reverse lamp assemblies with an improved design and repair the wiring harnesses if needed to remedy the condition. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 30. The recall only includes 2022-2025 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles produced between June 30, 2021, and March 20, 2025. These vehicles are equipped with reverse lamp assemblies of a specific design using a certain type of adhesive to secure the vent patch, according to the recall report. The Tacoma is assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing de Baja California, Mexico for the North American market, but not all of the recalled vehicles were sold in the U.S., according to the NHTSA. The light assemblies were supplied by Hella Automotive in Mexico. Although the recall report shows an estimated 1% of the Tacoma models as having the defect, the automaker says the exact number is unknown. The NHTSA's manufacturer portal requires that automakers enter a valid or approximate population of affected vehicles and Toyota selected a value of 1. The recall is Toyota's sixth since Jan. 1, according to the NHTSA. Toyota also issued 16 recalls in 2024 on sales of over 2.3 million vehicles in the U.S. last year, which is far fewer than some other automakers. Ford Motor Co., for example, has issued 56 recalls since Jan. 1 that potentially extend to over 1.9 million vehicles.
