Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that nearly 2000 Facebook accounts are commenting on Assam elections and at least half of the accounts are being handled from Pakistan and Bangladesh. Assam police (Special branch) are tasked to investigate these accounts.Assam is going to assembly polls next year. Sarma said the ISI of Pakistan wants a particular candidate to win.Talking to media persons in Guwahati on Wednesday said, 'The numbers of fictitious accounts will increase as elections draw near, ISI wants a particular candidate to win and details I will give on September 10. Around 2000 Facebook accounts have penetrated.'He said, 'If one goes through the comments, these are not from our people. A call centre is set up in Kolkata, 2000 accounts belonging to a particular community have sprung up in a day. As these things are under my observation and by September Assam politics will be interesting and I will be able to spell out more things.'The chief minister said that recently several Bangladeshi nationals were pushed back. 'We were able to do this as we know the heart of Assamese people.'Sarma recently raised concerns over the inclusion of a Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi from Assam in the proposed all-party delegations to key partner countries.Sarma had alleged that Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi's wife Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi has "good relations" with the Pakistan Army.Sarma claimed that Colburn had travelled 19 times between India and Pakistan, and Pakistan Army officials had accompanied her in the neighbouring country.Gaurav after taking over as the Pradesh Congress Committee president travelled to Upper Assam.Sarma said, ' In Rupohi not even 5000 people came out and in Jagiroad just 1000 people came, there is 5 lakh Muslim minority in Laharighat. Even Muslim minorities are not with Congress.

The leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, arrived at Gaya Airport in Bihar on Friday. According to the official Congress account on X, he is scheduled to address the 'Constitution Conference' and participate in multiple programs. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi visited Darbhanga, interacted with students, and discussed issues such as caste census and reservation. The LoP reached Ambedkar Hostel in Darbhanga in May to deliver an address despite being denied permission by Bihar Police, which also led to a case against him by the district administration. He emphasised the importance of social justice and criticised the government's policies, highlighting the need for a caste census, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was forced to announce it due to public pressure. The Bihar Assembly elections are expected to be a multi-cornered contest with the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) and the BJP, facing off against the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) comprising the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the INC, and other parties. The last assembly elections were held in October-November 2020. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has won a simple majority in Bihar, winning 125 seats in a closely contested election. The BJP won 74 seats while the JD(U) secured 43 seats. The Mahagathbandhan, including Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and Left parties, managed to secure 110 seats in the state's 243-seat legislative assembly. The Bihar Legislative Assembly election for all 243 constituencies is scheduled to be held in October or November this year.

'Action taken against those visibly responsible': Siddaramaiah defends government's response in Bengaluru stampede case
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for politicising the stampede at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which claimed 11 lives and left dozens injured. The incident occurred during RCB's IPL victory celebrations on June 4. Responding to allegations from the BJP that the Congress-led state government was scapegoating the police, Siddaramaiah told ANI that action had been taken against officials found 'visibly responsible' and 'negligent in their duty.' 'They [BJP] are doing this for politics. I don't do politics. We have taken action against those who were found visibly responsible,' the Chief Minister said. 'The government acted only when pressure mounted. The real accused are Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, and Home Minister G Parameshwara. They should be investigated,' Vijayendra said. Following the tragedy, the government suspended multiple senior police officials, including Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda. He was replaced by senior IPS officer Seemant Kumar Singh, who officially took charge on Friday. The list of suspended officers includes Additional Commissioner of Police Vikash Kumar Vikash, DCP (Central) Shekhar HT, ACP Balakrishna, and Cubbon Park Police Inspector Girish AK. In parallel, Karnataka Police registered an FIR against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), event organisers DNA Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), alleging 'irresponsibility' and 'carelessness' in crowd management. In response, the KSCA board, including President Raghuram Bhat, Secretary A. Shankar, and Treasurer E.S. Jairam, filed a writ petition in the Karnataka High Court seeking to quash the FIRs. How Thane Techie Spied For Pakistan's ISI, Shared Info On Indian Warships
Mumbai: A week after a 27-year-old man from Maharashtra was arrested in an alleged espionage case, it has now emerged how he spied for his Pakistani agents and the information that he shared with them. Ravi, a mechanical engineer based in Thane, had shared intelligence about Indian warships and submarines with his Pakistani handler. He had provided inputs about 14 Navy ships, out of which the inputs about five ships were accurate. For this, he received money from Pakistan's spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the police said. Ravi was "honey-trapped" by a Pakistani agent who had befriended him on Facebook, posing as a woman, officials had earlier said. He was found sharing sensitive information with the Pakistani operative through WhatsApp, officials said. Based on a tip-off, he was arrested on May 29 by the Thane unit of the Anti-Terrorism Squad. He has been charged with criminal conspiracy and relevant sections of the Official Secrets Act. Two others who were taken into custody along with him were left off after an inquiry. Indian agencies had heightened surveillance in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent India-Pakistan tensions. Over a dozen men and women have been arrested on charges of sharing sensitive information with Pakistani intelligence operatives. This includes two influencers, travel vlogger Jyoti Malhotra and YouTuber Jasbir Singh. Both had over a million subscribers on YouTube and had travelled to Pakistan multiple times. They are currently being probed. A student from Punjab and a security guard from Haryana are among others who face charges of leaking classified information across the border.
