Conan O'Brien to Host the Oscars Next Year, Too
Conan O'Brien will reprise his Oscar hosting duties next year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said Monday morning, in one of the earliest renewals for an Oscar host.
The news comes after Mr. O'Brien received high marks for his work as the emcee of the 97th Oscar telecast, which delivered a five-year ratings high for ABC this month. It was his first time hosting the show.
'The only reason I'm hosting the Oscars next year is that I want to hear Adrien Brody finish his speech,' Mr. O'Brien said in a statement, referring to Mr. Brody's five-minute oration after winning the Oscar for best actor.
The show's producers, Jeff Ross and Mike Sweeney, will also return for a second year. And the ceremony's executive producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan, will be back for a third consecutive year. The ceremony will be held on March 15, 2026.
The job of hosting the Oscar telecast is often a thorny one. The comedian Chevy Chase called it 'the most thankless job in the world.' The hosts rarely get credit when things go right — and are often held responsible when things go wrong.
In the past few years, the academy has tried to shore up the assignment early, though it didn't announce its most recent hosts until the November before the March telecast. Jimmy Kimmel signed on for his fourth and final turn in November 2023, and Mr. O'Brien was named in November 2024.
'Conan was the perfect host — skillfully guiding us through the evening with humor, warmth and reverence,' Bill Kramer, the academy's chief executive, and Janet Yang, the group's president, said in a statement.

Hit film starring Matt Damon and Jude Law to be adapted for Brighton stage
Theatre Royal Brighton is gearing up to welcome the first-ever UK tour of The Talented Mr Ripley. The show is a stage adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's gripping novel, which was also the source material for the 2000 Oscar-nominated film starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, and Gwyneth Paltrow and the 2024 Netflix adaptation starring Andrew Scott. This new production will make its stop at Theatre Royal Brighton from Monday, October 27, to Saturday, November 1, 2025. Adapted and directed by Mark Leipacher, known for his work on Mary Stuart and A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Talented Mr Ripley is produced by Jack Maple and Thomas Hopkins. The story follows Tom Ripley, a man who transforms from a nobody to someone caught in a web of lies, identity theft, and murder, after being invited into the privileged world of Dickie Greenleaf. Set in the 1950s Italy and featuring a chillingly charismatic antihero, this adaptation is set to bring a fresh take on the classic tale, promising audiences a thrilling experience. The Talented Mr Ripley is a production by The Faction, with set and costume design by Holly Piggott, known for her work on Fleabag, and associate set and costume design by Ellen Farrell. 5 Jun - "Squid Game" creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has recently been awarded Creator Tribute at the Gotham Awards. The special award was presented to Hwang by his lead actor Lee Jung-jae, who played Seong Gi-hun in the series. Lee described Hwang as "a storyteller with the imagination that changed the landscape of global TV." "Beneath the thrilling tension and unforgettable visuals, there were themes of strong criticism of inequality, despair, and the resilience of humanity. What director Hwang Dong-hyuk created was not just a drama. It was a mirror reflecting our current society with clear and piercing empathetic eyes. And the world responded with 265.2 million views for Season 1," he expressed. In his acceptance speech, Hwang thanked everyone who rejected "Squid Game" when he pitched it in 2009 "If even one person had said yes then, there would be no work as we know it today," he joked.
