Traffic likely to be affected in Bengaluru on Sunday during PM visit
However, the Prime Minister will fly in a helicopter between HAL Airport and Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna City Railway Station and from Electronics City to HAL Airport and travel by Namma Metro from R.V. Road Metro Station to Electronics City Metro Station, minimising his travel by road.
A senior traffic police official said that since the programme is being held on a Sunday, traffic will anyway be thin and the inconvenience the commuters will face be minimal.
Traffic restrictions
Bengaluru Traffic Police have issued an advisory imposing traffic restrictions on a few major roads on Sunday between 8.30 a.m. and 2:30 pm. People have been advised to avoid Marenahalli Main Road, Silk Board to Hosur via the Electronic City Elevated Flyover. BTP has said traffic congestion is expected on Hosur Road and NICE Road towards Electronics City. They have also advised commuters to avoid the stretch from Hosur to Bengaluru city, which is expected to hit interstate traffic.
There will also be restrictions around Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna City Railway Station in the morning, as the Prime Minister will flag off the Bengaluru - Belagavi Vande Bharat train at the station on Sunday morning.
Due to this event at the station, South Western Railways has announced cancellations, rescheduling, and diversions of several trains that were to depart from and arrive at the station.
City turns a fortress
In light of the Prime Minister's visit, the Bengaluru City Police have taken up extensive blockade both in the city and at the entry and exit points of the city, conducting surprise checks at hotels, PG accommodations, and guest houses, and increased security at bus, railway, and metro stations.
Additional platoons of reserve police force, Quick Response Teams (QRT), anti-sabotage teams, and Fire and Emergency Services have been deployed at strategic locations across the city.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday hit out at the Congress, saying the 1947 Partition was a dark chapter born out of the party's appeasement politics that shattered the 'Sanatan Bharat's unity and inflicted deep wounds on the nation'. Addressing an event in Lucknow on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, the CM credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with reviving this forgotten history by dedicating the day in 2021. 'Today, the entire country is mourning, remembering the horrors of August 14, 1947,' he said. Paying homage to the victims of Partition, the CM announced that the Uttar Pradesh government will provide land leases and full rehabilitation to eligible families under the Citizen Amendment Act (CAA). 'We are committed to protecting their rights and ensuring their dignity,' he said. Inaugurating an exhibition depicting the Partition violence through digital archives, rare photographs, newspaper clippings, state records, and preserved belongings of displaced families, the CM urged people to draw lessons from history. While revolutionaries willingly embraced martyrdom for India's freedom, the Congress divided the nation in its greed for power, he alleged, adding that the party's policies led to the ethnic cleansing of Hindus, Sikhs, and Buddhists from places like Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Multan in West Pakistan. 'The violence claimed 15–20 lakh lives and displaced crores, marking one of the darkest episodes in history,' he added. He accused the then Congress government of showing complete apathy towards the displaced. 'No memorials were built, no museums established for Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, and Christians who were forced to leave their ancestral homes. Their suffering was erased from the public memory,' he said. The CM praised PM Modi for granting citizenship and rehabilitation rights to refugees through the CAA, noting that — for the first time — displaced people in Jammu & Kashmir and other regions received citizenship and began contributing to India's development. 'The Congress never made any sincere effort for their rehabilitation,' he claimed. Emphasising the importance of connecting the younger generation with history, Adityanath said the exhibition portrayed the grim reality of Partition — massacres, riots, and forced migration. Later, he also held a 'silent foot march'. At that time those in power deceived the public by portraying Partition as merely an administrative decision, he said. 'Partition was a moral and humanitarian crime, which the Congress carried out under its policy of appeasement. 'Partition gave birth to a monster like Pakistan, which even today is involved in various conspiracies to harm Hindustan,' he remarked. The Congress, he said, portrayed India's Partition as if it were the division of property between two brothers. The state government has been preparing a comprehensive relief package for those who were deprived of citizenship during Partition, the CM said, adding that the process of land allocation for families in districts like Bijnor, Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Rampur has already begun. Supporting the CAA, Adityanath said they are committed to giving respect and citizenship to refugees who came from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan after Partition. Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathakwere also present on the occasion.

11K security personnel, snipers on high-rises to keep Delhi safe on I-Day
A day before the country celebrates its 78th Independence Day, security measures in the Capital were stepped up with snipers being deployed at high-rise buildings and camera surveillance being increased across the city. 11,000 security personnel and 3,000 traffic police have been posted for security in and around the Red Fort, from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on Friday. 'Commercial vehicles restricted' Delhi Traffic Police has issued instructions to restrict commercial vehicles from entering the Capital after 10 p.m. on Thursday. Special teams have been deployed at all major railway stations, inter-State bus terminals, airports, and metro stations for round-the-clock monitoring, a senior police officer said. On Wednesday, Delhi Police Commissioner S.B.K Singh briefed officers on the arrangements with a key directive to ensure there are no bird feeding points in the areas surrounding the Red Fort. 'The Delhi police and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has asked non-vegetarian eateries to dispose of food waste properly so flocks of birds are not attracted,' a senior police officer said. This measure aims to prevent any disturbance to helicopter movement on August 15. Mr. Singh has also issued an order banning the use of sub-conventional aerial platforms such as paragliders, hang-gliders, UAVs, drones, hot air balloons and other remotely piloted aircraft over Delhi skies between August 2 and August 16. 'These aerial platforms can be potentially misused by anti-social elements or terrorist outfits for para-jumping or launching airborne attacks, posing a serious threat to public safety, VIP security, and critical installations during the Independence Day celebrations,' an official order said. Speed boats have also been deployed along the Yamuna river for added surveillance, the officer added. Apart from physical deployment, surveillance through CCTV cameras, drone detection systems, facial recognition cameras and ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras will be used to monitor the venue and its surrounding areas, a senior police officer said. UVSS cameras For the first time, under-vehicle surveillance systems (UVSS) will be deployed at five parking areas of the Red Fort to scan the underside of vehicles for explosives, weapons or contraband, the officer said. The admission to Red Fort on Friday is strictly through invitation cards and only labelled vehicles will be allowed in its vicinity, the officer added. Headcount cameras to track crowd numbers and devices to flag unattended or suspicious objects will also be used, while intrusion-detection cameras will monitor restricted zones, he said. Plain-clothed surveillance teams are being mobilised to strengthen ground presence, another officer said. 'Social media platforms are also being closely monitored by the cyber units to detect and neutralise any possible online threats or misinformation campaigns that may disrupt peace,' he said.

Crossing a line: on drive against undocumented immigrants
Police in several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled States are trying to identify undocumented Bangladeshi immigrants by their language: Bengali. This approach has led to some comical errors, such as the Delhi police listing 'Bangladeshi' as a language — a massive leap in linguistics. However, in most cases, this has become a tragic and farcical exercise. Several documented instances have shown Indian citizens being pushed across the border into Bangladesh. This has caused significant hardship for the families involved and embarrassment to the government. Some individuals have been repatriated to their families in West Bengal after intervention by the State government or courts. This 'pushback' of suspected Bangladeshis is a part of a larger effort to bypass the due process of law, which is often lengthy and rigorous. The rounding up of Bengali speakers has sparked a debate in West Bengal, where the ruling party, the Trinamool Congress, has called it an 'attack on Bengali identity' and launched a language movement. The targeting of Bengali migrants has immediate consequences for their livelihoods. Fearing detention and forced relocation to Bangladesh — a country to which they may have no connection — many migrant workers from West Bengal have left their jobs. In one particular case, Delhi police detained Bengali speakers who had been granted Indian citizenship under a well-known land exchange treaty with Bangladesh signed by the Narendra Modi government. Bengali is India's second-largest language by number of speakers. The State of West Bengal is both a source and a destination for migrant workers. The divisions being created over language and identity could easily escalate into conflict and violence. Even for the BJP, this exercise makes little political sense and may be counterproductive ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections in West Bengal. The migrant workers from West Bengal who are being harassed in other States do not belong to a single community. BJP leaders in West Bengal are already facing criticism over the issue and are setting up camps to assist citizens with the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in various constituencies across the State. The issue of Bangladeshi citizens entering and working in India is not new. For decades, people from the neighbouring country have entered India for political and social reasons, including better economic opportunities. The boundaries of India are a creation of colonialism and a violent history of political conflicts. While sovereign borders must be protected, the central government must ensure that law enforcement does not become counterproductive and lead to the harassment of its citizens.
