Kneecap's legal team for court battle to include Julian Assange lawyer

Western Telegraph15 hours ago

Rapper O hAnnaidh, who performs under the name Mo Chara, will be represented by a team that includes Gareth Peirce, solicitor for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange during his fight against US extradition, and Rosalind Comyn, who has represented Extinction Rebellion protesters in court.
The 27-year-old was charged by postal requisition over the alleged display of a Hezbollah flag at a gig at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, north London, in November last year.
His legal team also includes Darragh Mackin from Phoenix Law, Brenda Campbell KC, Jude Bunting KC and Blinne Ni Ghralaigh KC.
Mr Mackin was the solicitor for Sarah Ewart, whose successful legal challenge helped to usher in the decriminalisation of abortion in Northern Ireland, while Ms Campbell was the defence barrister in the collapsed case against Seamus Daly, who was accused of murdering people in the IRA bomb attack in Omagh in 1998.
Mr Bunting acted for non-profit company Liberty in the Stansted 15's successful conviction appeal after they broke into Stansted Airport to stop a plane deporting people to Africa, which was a case Ms Ni Ghralaigh also worked on.
In an Instagram post the group said: 'The British establishment is conducting a campaign against Kneecap which is to be fought in Westminster Magistrates Court… We are ready for this fight. We are proud to have such a strong legal team with us.'
In May, the Metropolitan Police said Kneecap were being investigated by counter-terrorism police after videos emerged allegedly showing the band calling for the deaths of MPs and shouting 'up Hamas, up Hezbollah'.
They apologised to the families of murdered MPs but said footage of the incident had been 'exploited and weaponised'.
They also said they have 'never supported' Hamas or Hezbollah, which are banned in the UK.
In 2024, the band released an eponymous film starring Oscar-nominated actor Michael Fassbender which is a fictionalised retelling of how the band came together and follows the Belfast group on their mission to save their mother tongue through music.
Formed in 2017, the group, made up of O hAnnaidh, Naoise O Caireallain and JJ O Dochartaigh, are known for their provocative lyrics and merchandise as well as their championing of the Irish language.
Their best-known tracks include Get Your Brits Out, Better Way To Live, featuring Grian Chatten from Fontaines DC, and 3Cag.
O hAnnaidh is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on June 18.
His lawyers have been approached for comment.

Britney Spears deletes her Instagram after most bizarre rant yet

Britney Spears is no longer on Instagram – with some speculating her ex Sam Asghari's recent comments have something to do with it (Photo by Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP, File) Britney Spears has vanished from Instagram following what may be her most unfiltered rant to date. The pop icon's Instagram page, once a chaotic but direct line to her 40 million followers, disappeared on Friday, with her profile link now redirecting to a message that simply reads: 'Sorry, this page isn't available.' The departure from the platform comes without any warning or explanation, but just days after the Toxic singer unleashed a blistering tirade aimed at two of her ex-partners, accusing them of cruelty. 'I dated two f****** complete a**holes,' she wrote in a now-deleted post. 'I realized I loved their dogs more than them and I think it's because their dogs bowed to me every time I entered the room!!!' Without naming names, Spears, 43, described the men as 'cruel humans' who failed to acknowledge her or even hold her hand during their years-long relationships. Britney's Instagram departure comes after a rant about her exes (Picture: Instagram/@britneyspears) She has become known for her frequent Instagram posts, particularly those in which she dances (Picture: Instagram) 'I choose animals over people anyday!!! I'm so turned off by humanity and the way people have literally … I have no words!!!' Some have speculated that the rant was in response to a series of recent interviews given by her third ex-husband, actor and fitness trainer Sam Asghari, who spoke publicly about the highs and lows of their short-lived marriage. The couple split in 2023 after just 14 months, with Asghari recently admitting their very public relationship boosted his career, but also complicated his life. 'When you're in such a public relationship, that gives you that platform,' Asghari told Page Six. 'It sort of gave me that platform for who I am.' He also acknowledged that being known primarily as Spears' husband made some casting directors hesitate, calling the experience 'a double-edged sword.' Asghari recently spoke out on how his marriage to Britney helped and hurt his career (Picture: Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic) The pop singer has made sudden exits from Instagram several times in the past(Picture:) In a separate podcast interview earlier this month, Asghari claimed he had pushed for a prenuptial agreement before marrying Spears in 2022, to protect her amid what he described as a lifetime of being exploited. 'It's very sad,' he said. 'I wanted to make sure that I'm the person that didn't do that.' Fans quickly connected the dots between Spears' angry outburst and Asghari's recent comments, though she never named him directly – nor her other unnamed ex, speculated to be one of her previous high-profile partners. Spears, who shares sons Sean Preston, 19, and Jayden James, 18, with second husband Kevin Federline, has deactivated her Instagram multiple times in recent years. Often, she's gone dark following criticism, media attention, or what appears to be emotional distress. Whether this latest exit from Instagram is temporary or a longer-term break remains to be seen. Katie Price shares rare snap of boyfriend as she makes gushing tribute

Katie Price and JJ Slater have been an item for some time after JJ found fame when appearing on Married At First Sight, but have kept a low-profile on their romance recently Katie Price has shared a rare snap of her boyfriend JJ Slater as she made gushing tribute for a special occasion. JJ is celebrating his 33rd birthday as he has girlfriend Katie by his side. The mum-of-five took to her Instagram story to share a new photo of her by her boyfriend's side for the special day. Alongside the snap, she simply wrote: "Happy Birthday @johnjoeslater." ‌ Katie, 47, and JJ have been an item since they first met back in early 2024. The pair have faced scrutiny throughout their relationship due to their 14-year age gap. ‌ They have also been plagued by split rumours but have very much confirmed they are still together in Katie's birthday post. Speaking about JJ, Katie said: "He's the most kindest, genuine, easygoing, chilled person. But do I feel my most happiest and do I feel free? No. It's not a reflection on him, maybe that's what I need to change for myself." The sweet birthday tribute comes after JJ was rushed to hospital again overnight last month and updated fans on his health battle. He shared a worrying photo from hospital which showed a syringe in his arm. He explained the reasons behind why he went this morning after uploading the photo to Instagram. He wrote: "Hate to see it. The reality of living with type 1 diabetes. Late nights in A&E." JJ was taken to hospitals just a few days before Christmas in 2023 after losing 1.5 stone in three weeks and his blood sugar levels were found to be dangerously high. Doctors diagnosed him with type 1 diabetes and he now needs to inject himself with insulin four times per day and regulate his food intake. ‌ The star has been open about his health ordeal and how it has changed his life. He was diagnosed after a series of blood tests when his weight had dramatically decreased. Tests showed that he was at risk of diabetic ketoacidosis, which can be life-threatening. JJ told the MailOnline: "The first signs were that I always felt thirsty and needed to go the toilet in the middle of the night. I was waking up 4-5 times needing the toilet. "Then I started to lose weight quite quickly. I lost about a stone and a half in three weeks, but I was still eating the same and going to the gym every day. The average person's blood sugar is 4-7 and mine was 34, so mine was super high and there are a lot of complications that come with that. "Your blood can become acidic, which is called DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis)... they were afraid that my glucose was so high that the process had already started. Luckily, it hasn't so being diagnosed before that happened was crucial."

There will be an incredible ceremony at the Horse Guard Parade and an airshow by the Red Arrows. King Charles and Queen Camilla will soon arrive and wave to the crowds from a carriage, as the monarch is still undergoing his weekly treatments for cancer. Following them will be the horse-riding trio Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Prince William. Kate Middleton and the kids - Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and naughty Prince Louis, six - are yet to arrive. This year will be Charles' third Trooping the Colour parade. The Coldstream Guards are on display for the world to see, dressed in full military regalia, alongside a huge number of supporting staff. Over 1,400 officers and soldiers, 400 musicians, 200 horses and 10 bands are taking part in the Trooping the Colour event. King Charles asked royals to wear black armbands in remembrance of those killed in the Air India plane tragedy. Those wearing the bands will be the Prince of Wales, Colonel of the Welsh Guards, the Princess Royal, Colonel Blues and Royals, and the Duke of Edinburgh, Colonel Scots Guards. A spokesperson said this is "a mark of respect for the lives lost, the families in mourning and all the communities affected by this awful tragedy". There will also be a minute's silence at the event following Thursday's devastating crash which killed at least 241 people. The parade today is almost five months before King Charles' actual birthday. Charles was born on November 14, though the reigning British monarch has two birthdays. The sovereign's birthday, which is celebrated through the Trooping the Colour, usually falls in the summer months. Notably, the King's youngest son and his family are not present. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were not invited last year either. The late Queen used to invite the extended Royal Family onto the balcony, but this was later changed so that only working royals are allowed. Trooping the Colour dates back to the 17th Century, when it was first held by King Charles II. The ceremony takes its name from each regiment showing off their battle colours, which made them easier to identify when at war. Fans can either stream the event or attend live, though Central London is expected to be extremely busy. 8 Cheerful royal fans have gone all out in Union Jack clothing for the event Credit: Goff 8 Preparations are underway for Trooping The Colour 2025 Credit: George Cracknell Wright
