Milos Kerkez contract details and likely shirt number as Liverpool finalise deal

Daily Mirror5 hours ago

Milos Kerkez is set to join Liverpool in the coming days after the Reds reached a breakthrough in their talks with Bournemouth, with the Hungary international in line for a bumper contract
Milos Kerkez is edging towards a £45million move to Liverpool as the Reds' busy summer window continues. They have already signed Jeremie Frimpong and are closing in on his former Bayer Leverkusen team-mate Florian Writz.
Frimpong arrives to help replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has joined Real Madrid. But boss Arne Slot has also been keen to add a left-back to his squad this summer to provide better competition for Andy Robertson.

Though he has played a key role in two Premier League title wins and the 2019 Champions League win, Robertson's performances have suffered a downturn. His back-up is currently Kostas Tsimikas.

But the Greek international has never really convinced that he can be a long-term option. Instead, the Reds are now set to close a deal for Kerkez, who has impressed at Bournemouth.
Whether Kerkez comes in as competition for Robertson or to directly replace him remains to be seen, with the Scotland captain the subject of increasing interest from Atletico Madrid.
It appears Liverpool certainly see Kerkez as being a long-term player, with iNews reporting he will be handed a five-year contract. The 21-year-old can also expect a major pay bump by joining the champions.
Kerkez has made it clear that Liverpool is his preferred destination. Talks have been ongoing for three weeks, with Reds sporting director Richard Hughes taking the lead in the negotiations.
Bournemouth have stood firm on their valuation and there is said to be 'growing optimism' a deal will be agreed in the coming days. Liverpool are set to pay £45m to get hold of Kerkez, with the Cherries having already signed a replacement in Adrien Truffert.

One matter that does remain to be settled is the shirt number Kerkez will take on at Anfield. The Hungary international currently wears No.3 at Bournemouth, though that is occupied by Wataru Endo at Liverpool.
Endo has struggled for game time since Klopp arrived though and could well depart this summer. If he leaves or even moves over to the unoccupied No.6 shirt, then Kerkez could take hold of the No.3 jersey.
For his part, Robertson has insisted he is ready to face the challenge Kerkez will bring. He told BBC Scotland earlier this month: "We're not daft, it looks as if a deal could potentially be done. But, until that is done, I've not even given that a second thought.

"I back myself, I've got confidence in my own ability and that drives me forward. I've had eight fantastic years at Liverpool in terms of winning trophies, being a mainstay in the team, which I'm incredibly proud of. I'm not getting any younger, I can't change my age.
"But I still believe I've got a lot to give and that's what I focus on. I focus on myself - you can't focus on other people or who you're competing with. I still believe I have a hell of a lot to give for however many years I can keep going. My body feels good at the minute."

Arsenal target second Real Madrid star after huge Rodrygo transfer offers emerge

Arsenal are keen on signing Rodrygo from Real Madrid this summer but they have alternatives in mind if a deal for the exciting Brazil international cannot be achieved Arsenal have identified Brahim Diaz as an alternative target to Rodrygo if they are unsuccessful in their bid to lure the Real Madrid forward to the Emirates this summer. The Gunners are seeking quality additions to their forward line and want to add a left-sided forward as well as a top No.9. Rodrygo, 24, has quickly emerged as a top target amid uncertainty over his future at the Bernabeu alongside other names, such as a long-term target in Nico Williams. ‌ While Arsenal are keen on the idea of adding Rodrygo to their ranks, the noises coming out of Spain suggest that the player is leaning towards staying put. ‌ But a new report from Fichajes claims that Brahim, 25, is seen as a 'smart' alternative to Rodrygo who would also likely be available for a more reasonable price than the former Santos man. It's said that Arsenal would be prepared to offer as much as €50million (£42.6m) to bring the versatile forward to north London. While it remains to be seen if Brahim would be open to a Premier League switch, there are other suitors lurking, too. Bayer Leverkusen, now coached by Erik ten Hag, are also interested in the Morocco international. Rival transfer interest could also impact their ability to lure Rodrygo to The Emirates, with the same outlet claiming that Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal have laid down monstrous €130m (£110.8m) offers for the Brazil star. While it remains to be seen if Rodrygo would be open to moving to Saudi Arabia, Real Madrid could struggle to turn down such sums for a player who had fallen out of favour under Carlo Ancelotti. ‌ For Rodrygo's part, he is seemingly willing to try and re-establish himself under the club's new head coach, Xabi Alonso. Marca even reported last week that Rodrygo was 'back on track' after holding early talks with Alonso, with the forward even sharing a selection of training images on his social media account alongside the caption "happy". Arsenal are also avid admirers of Williams, but financing the deal for the Athletic Bilbao star would be costly. Crucially, he, too, has admirers and is said to have transfer talks with Barcelona in recent days over a potential cross La Liga switch.

Darwin Nunez ready to accept transfer offer as Liverpool set asking price

Darwin Nunez is ready to accept a transfer offer to leave Liverpool but the Premier League champions are asking for at least £50m for the striker. Nunez has largely disappointed at Anfield following a big-money move from Benfica in 2022 worth up to £85m. The 25-year-old scored 34 goals during his last season at Benfica but has failed to hit those heights during his three-year spell at Liverpool. Nunez has chipped in with some vital goals – scoring 40 in total over the past three seasons – but Liverpool bosses expected more from one of the most expensive signings in the club's history. Liverpool fielded offers for Nunez during the January transfer window but did not want to risk unsettling a squad that was on course to win the Premier League. But Arne Slot is open to selling Nunez this summer, especially if the sale boosts his own transfer kitty and allows him to bring more new signings to the club. Liverpool have signed Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen and are set to welcome his former teammate Florian Wirtz to Anfield in a deal worth around £115m. Nunez is one of the players expected to make way and has emerged as a target for several clubs in Saudi Arabia and Europe. According to Gianluca di Marzio, Napoli have identified Nunez as a top target and the Uruguay international is 'open' to joining the Serie A champions. Napoli have already sealed an impressive deal for Manchester City hero Kevin De Bruyne and now want to add Nunez to Antonio Conte's squad in Naples. Appearances: 95Goals: 25Assists: 13Wins: 57Goals per game: 0.57 Big chances missed: 55 Corriere dello Sport also say Napoli are working on a deal for Nunez and believe Liverpool have quoted a price of at least £50m to interested suitors. Napoli's biggest competition for Nunez could in fact come from their direct rivals AC Milan, who are looking to sign a new striker for new manager Massimiliano Allegri. The Saudi Pro League could offer Nunez a lucrative contract but he is believed to have reservations about leaving elite club football in Europe. Despite his underwhelming spell on Merseyside, Nunez has all the attributes to be a top-class striker. Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain have even been urged to approach Liverpool to discuss a shock move for Nunez. 'There are two players I'd like to see at PSG and one is Kai Havertz from Arsenal,' France World Cup winner Marcel Desailly told Oddspedia. More Trending 'Havertz is the best option because he can play as a midfielder but also as a point of reference up front as a striker. 'For me Havertz would be the best signing for PSG and the other is Darwin Nunez from Liverpool. 'Nunez is a point of reference and has great movement, he has been unlucky in front of goal but I think he'd do well in a back-up role for PSG. 'Those are the two players I'd like to see join PSG this summer.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Enzo Maresca has one eye on next game after Chelsea's opening CWC victory

The Premier League side pushed for a second and finally got it in the 79th minute as summer signing Liam Delap crossed the ball to fellow substitute Enzo Fernandez, who tapped in from close range. Off the mark with a win. See you in 3 days. 🇺🇸 — Tosin Adarabioyo (@TosinAdarabioyo) June 16, 2025 Maresca praised debutant Delap and quickly switched his attention to the fixture against Flamengo on Friday. He said on Channel 5: 'Very good result. At this stage of the season it is also normal that you have to manage different kinds of things. Overall the performance has been good. 'We have to recover. We have a game in three days so we will see. We are going to prepare in the best way and for sure try to win. 'The good thing about Liam is he knows the way we want to play so the process is quite quick. Also we gave a chance to Dario Essugo which is another player we have, so it's good for both of them.' Delap, 22, signed from Ipswich for £30million 12 days ago and it took him just 15 minutes to register his first goal contribution as he supplied Fernandez to make it 2-0. Delap said: 'It's a really happy feeling for me. I'm so excited to be here and to play my first game, and be able to contribute is a good feeling. Liam Delap (left) claimed an assist for Chelsea's second goal (Brynn Anderson/AP) 'The team have welcomed me really well. I have only had a few sessions here but I am excited for more. 'It is good to help the team but I want to score some as well. 'It is always good to have competition, this is football. It is an incredible club and it is always going to be incredibly hard but you have to thrive off the competition.'
