Bakersfield PD remembers K9 killed in line of duty
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield Police Department is remembering a K9 who was killed in the line of duty four years ago.
Jango was shot on April 27, 2021 while attempting to catch a convicted felon following a pursuit of a stolen vehicle, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
The K9 was a Belgian Malinois born in the Netherlands in November 2015. Jango was assigned to his human partner Officer Brock Mueller in March of 2017.
'Jango helped me become a better officer, husband, friend and father,' Mueller said.
Jango served the community in suspect apprehension and explosive material detection.

Coroner ID's man shot, killed in south Bakersfield in January
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Coroner's Office identified a man who was shot and killed in south Bakersfield on New Year's Day. Jatinder Singh, 39, was shot in the 2100 block of East Casa Loma Drive Jan. 1 at around 5:17 p.m., according to officials. Singh was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of his death was multiple gunshot wounds. Police identified the suspect in the shooting as Gurinder Singh. In January, police said Gurinder Singh was wanted on suspicion of murder and is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on Singh's whereabouts is asked to call the Bakersfield Police Department at 661-327-7111. Anyone who sees him should not approach him, police said, but instead call 911. Bakersfield man accused of killing estranged wife makes first court appearance
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man accused of killing his estranged wife last month at a house in east Bakersfield made his first court appearance Monday, more than a week after he was first scheduled to be arraigned. Rafael Estrada, 44, pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder, four counts of willful cruelty to a child, spousal abuse, allowing or causing injury to an elder or dependent adult, recklessly evading a peace officer, driving a vehicle in the opposite direction of traffic and resisting arrest. Several prior arraignment dates were postponed. No reason for the postponements was given in court. Court Commissioner Samantha Allen ordered Estrada held without bail. His next hearing is scheduled June 20. Around 8:30 p.m. on May 28, deputies were called to a house in the 2400 block of Monterey Street to reports that a man had seriously injured his wife. They arrived and found Taylor Danay Dominguez Estrada, 32, with 'severe trauma,' according to sheriff's officials. She was declared dead at the scene. Family members have told 17 News that Rafael Estrada showed up to a party uninvited and slit his wife's throat in front of at least one child. Rafael Estrada was spotted by sheriff's helicopter driving away in a white truck before deputies arrived, officials said. Deputies located and chased the pickup until the pursuit ended about 10 miles away in the 9900 block of Ramos Avenue. Officials said a K-9 was used to take Estrada into custody. Two men are in custody and one is on the loose after an early-morning burglary in Bonney Lake, according to police. Mark Berry, police chief for the Bonney Lake Police Department, told The News Tribune the burglary happened at a local pharmacy at about 3:20 a.m. on Monday. When The News Tribune asked him for the name of the pharmacy, he declined to answer but said it is in the area of 204th Avenue East and state Route 410. Berry said the suspects were three men. When police showed up at the pharmacy, they saw one of the men flee out the window and the two other men drive away in a white SUV, he said. Berry said investigators used the city's Flock license plate camera system 'to identify the suspect vehicle and put that information out.' A K9 from the Puyallup Police Department found the three men driving at 13th Street Southeast and Pioneer Way East in Puyallup, Berry said. The three men then ran out of the car and officers used a drone and a K9 to find two of the suspects, who are now in custody. The third is still at large. 'After a search warrant on the vehicle, we recovered several bags of stolen prescription narcotics from the pharmacy, as well as burglary tools,' Berry said. 'We are currently working with other agencies in the area who have reported similar burglaries.' Berry said the third man was last seen wearing all-black clothing and a mask.
