Northport, WA superintendent dies attempting to save student lost in ocean
This story was originally published on A Northport High School (NHS) baseball player went missing while swimming off the shore of Long Beach on May 24. Coach and Northport School District (NSD) Superintendent Don Baribault attempted to save the student, but was not able to. Baribault later died from hypothermia in a Portland hospital on May 26. Noah Heberling, 15, was on a baseball trip for the state playoffs, and the team was on the way to pick up pizzas that the team had ordered. The team decided to take a detour and visit the Washington coast, where Heberling got swept away by large waves, according toThe Spokesman-Review. Erik Stark, the NHS athletic director, was not at the scene but detailed the events that occurred. 'He kind of got tossed around. A couple of the other kids went out to get him,' Stark said, according to The Spokesman-Review. Two of the baseball team's coaches, including Baribault, along with Heberling's father, went into the water to save Heberling. 'Don went out, and I think he made contact with Noah. But both of them had succumbed to hypothermia and weren't functioning,' Stark said, according to The Spokesman-Review. The U.S. Coast Guard crew members reported to the scene around 8 p.m., according to The Seattle Times. The Coast Guard was able to pull Baribault and his father to shore, but Heberling's body has yet to be found, according to The Spokesman-Review. The Northport Mustangs Athletics Facebook account confirmed the passing of Baribault in a post on Facebook. 'Don was struggling on the beach. They took him to the hospital. Then he was flown to a Portland hospital, that's where he succumbed,' Stark said, according to The Spokesman-Review. Follow Jason Sutich on X. Send news tips here.

He just won a major golf tournament—then found out his baby had a blowout
Fresh off his win at the Memorial Tournament, pro golfer Scottie Scheffler was walking tall—until life (and his baby) reminded him what real pressure looks like. In a now-viral video captured by CBS Sports with over 3 million views, Scheffler is seen soaking in his big moment when his wife hands him their baby boy, Bennett, with the kind of calm warning that only a parent can deliver: 'He has poop all over his back, so be prepared.' Did he flinch? Panic? Call for backup? Nope. Scheffler simply nodded and replied with the most dad response of all time: 'That'll happen.' Related: Jason Kelce interrupts podcast to answer his toddler's urgent potty request And just like that, a diaper blowout became the perfect parenting metaphor. One minute, you're on top of the world. The next, you're covered in it (sometimes literally). The internet, of course, had thoughts. Facebook commenters jumped in with the kind of solidarity only parents can offer: @Christy Krusell: If this isn't real parenting life, I don't know what is @Paula Holmes Cheves: Handled that like a Champ! @Aaron Gulley: Relatable to every dad out there The truth is, the most humbling part of parenthood isn't just the sleepless nights or the endless laundry, it's the way it sneaks into *every* moment. No matter how polished the highlight reel is, kids will always find a way to bring you back to Earth. Scheffler's reaction was a parenting win in itself: no drama, no delay, just acceptance. Because once you've changed a few hundred diapers, not even a national broadcast can shake you. And honestly, isn't that the dream? To be so grounded in your parenting that even a championship moment can include poop, pride, and presence. No outfit change required. So here's to the moms and dads wiping butts between milestones. To the blowouts, the breakdowns, and the beautiful mess of it all. Because parenting doesn't pause, not for trophies, not for TV, and especially not for clean backs.
