Indore Metro issues guidelines, penalties for safe & efficient travel

Time of India02-06-2025
Indore: As Indore embraces its new era of urban transport with the recently launched Metro, MPMRCL has issued a comprehensive set of "Dos and Don'ts" to ensure a smooth, safe, and respectful experience for all passengers.
Additionally, the guidelines include a list of 'violations' that can lead to penalties and even imprisonment.
Adherence to these guidelines, which have also been posted at every station of the Indore Metro, is crucial for maintaining the efficiency and pristine condition of the city's latest public transit system, senior officials said.
The offences and penalties that MPMRCL has identified include drunkenness, causing a nuisance, spitting, sitting on the floor of the train, quarrelling, taking offensive materials, defacing metro properties, and unauthorized sale of tickets.
For each of these violations, the authority has fixed a penalty of Rs 200. Additionally, there is a penalty of Rs 400 for the unauthorized sale of articles on the metro railway.
Travelling without a ticket or pass will make the passenger liable for an excess charge of Rs 50 and the maximum fare of the system. According to the guidelines, demonstrating of any kind upon the railway, writing, pasting in compartments or carriages, or refusal to be removed can result in exclusion from attending demonstrations, removal from compartments or carriages, or a fine of Rs 500.

According to the guidelines, there is imprisonment of up to 3 months or a fine of up to Rs 250, or both, for unlawful entry (such as entering the coach reserved for women). This penalty and imprisonment are doubled for unlawful entry and walking on the metro track.
Obstructing officials on duty can lead to imprisonment of up to 1 year or a fine of up to Rs 1,000, or both.

Man killed over Rs 200 loan dispute in UP's Gonda, family stages protest

Gonda (UP), Aug 5 (PTI) A 22-year-old newly-married man was allegedly beaten to death over a Rs 200 loan dispute, sparking protests from family members who placed his body on the Gonda-Lucknow highway, police said on Tuesday. The deceased Hriday Lal, a mason from Laxmanpur Jaat village, had lent Rs 700 to a villager, Ram Anuj. A heated argument broke out between them on August 1 when Lal demanded Rs 200 back. The dispute turned violent, and he was allegedly attacked with sticks by Anuj, his brother Ram Kishore, son Jagdish, and nephews Pankaj and Chandan. Lal, who was taken to Lucknow for treatment, succumbed to injuries on Monday. When the body was being brought back from Lucknow in an ambulance on Monday evening, the family tried to block the Gonda-Lucknow highway at Balpur by keeping the body on the road. Police deployed from four local police stations intervened, cleared the blockade using mild force, and ensured the body was taken to the village. Initially, the family refused to conduct the last rites, demanding strict action and 'bulldozer action' on the homes of the accused. The cremation was eventually conducted late Monday night under police supervision, Kotwali Dehat Station House Officer, Sanjay Kumar Singh said, adding all named accused have been arrested and booked under relevant BNS sections. Postmortem was conducted in Lucknow, and further legal action will follow based on the report, he added. Police force has been deployed in the village to maintain peace. Lal had been married just a month ago, his family members said. Partha Sarathi Biswal, managing director of Odisha-based Biswal Tradelink Pvt Ltd (BTPL), was arrested for allegedly arranging a fake bank guarantee worth ₹68 crore for a Reliance Group company. What is the case against Anil Ambani? According to the ED, BTPL received ₹5.40 crore from Reliance Nu Bess Ltd's parent, Reliance Power Ltd, after submitting a fake bank guarantee with forged SBI endorsements in response to a tender floated by the Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI). 'Probe reveals BTPL, a small company incorporated in 2019, maintained multiple undisclosed bank accounts and carried out transactions disproportionate to its declared turnover. Many violations of the Companies Act are found,' the ED said in an official statement. It further said, 'Statutory records such as books of accounts and shareholders' registers were not found at the registered address… Dummy directors are found to be used just to sign the documents.' The agency claimed it had traced proceeds of crime, amounting to several crores, across at least seven undisclosed bank accounts linked to BTPL. While Reliance Nu Bess had initially filed a complaint against BTPL for cheating, the ED suspects collusion. 'Documentary evidence reveals that apparently the two parties acted in collusion. The directors of Biswal Tradelink were found to be previous directors of Reliance Group,' a senior official told ET. In its response, the Reliance Group said on Friday that the company and its subsidiaries acted bonafidely and have been a victim of fraud, forgery and cheating conspiracy. "The company has made due disclosure on this to the stock exchanges on November 7, 2024. A criminal complaint in this regard has already been lodged with the Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police against the third party on October 16, 2024. The due process of law will follow.'
