"PM Modi should be ashamed to come to Bihar": RJD's Tejashwi Yadav
Patna (Bihar) [India], June 19 (ANI): Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his upcoming visit to Bihar, claiming that the PM is coming to Bihar to do 'politics of hatred' and should be ashamed to come to the state due to unfulfilled promises.
'If PM Modi listens to his 200 speeches that he has given so far in Bihar, he will be ashamed to come to Bihar. He made hundreds of promises, he will be ashamed of what to say to the people of Bihar... He is not coming to Bihar to provide employment, reduce inflation, eliminate poverty, but just to do the politics of Hindu-Muslim, the politics of hatred,' Yadav told ANI earlier today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Bihar tomorrow (June 20), where he is scheduled to address a public gathering in the Siwan district of the state. Earlier, as Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha urged people to attend the event in large numbers, he said that PM Modi will highlight the resolution for 'Viksit Bihar' and give a message for 'freedom from nepotism.'

Regarding nepotism, the RJD leader claimed that while the BJP criticises others of family-politics, half of the ministers in the state cabinet are dynasts, while also repeating his claim of NDA being a 'National Daamaad Aayog.'
'They keep abusing us about family politics, but their alliance is filled with dynastic politicians, and the same thing is true even in their party (BJP). In Bihar, over 50% of the ministers are dynasts... NDA in Bihar means 'National Daamaad Aayog'. PM Modi has fitted everyone's son-in-law in the 'Aayog',' the RJD leader said.
Continuing his attack, he claimed that state minister Ashok Chaudhary is preventing the son of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Nishant Kumar, from entering politics.
'They are happy seeing Nitish Kumar unconscious--it's like a blessing from God for them. Ashok Chaudhary will set his family members, but they will not let Nishant Kumar (son of Nitish Kumar) come into politics,' he claimed.
The RJD leader also subtly hit out at Prashant Kishor, founder of Jan Suraaj Party, claiming that the newly formed parties in the state were formed on an 'RSS quota'
'Ashok Chaudhary says that there is an RSS quota, but I am curious, and PM Modi and CM Nitish Kumar should clarify the places where the RSS quota works... We all know new parties are being formed in Bihar under the RSS quota. All the new parties that have been formed will be seen nowhere once the election is over in Bihar,' the RJD leader said.
Prashant Kishor is the founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, started on October 2, 2024. Kishor, an election strategist turned politician, had announced in July of 2024 that his party would be contesting all the assembly election seats.
Meanwhile, Kishor hit out at Tejashwi Yadav's nepotism jibe, claiming that Yadav only wants to see Nitish Kumar's son in politics so he can also raise allegations of nepotism instead of facing the allegations himself, with Yadav being the son of former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Kishor told reporters in Gopalganj, 'Tejashwi Yadav and his family face allegations of nepotism. Tejashwi Yadav wants that if Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's son also joins politics, he will say he is not the only one who faces allegations of nepotism. As far as I know, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's son will not join politics and was not going to.' (ANI)

Punjab: Ludhiana West assembly bypoll sees 33% voter turnout till 1pm
A voter turnout of 33.42% was recorded till 1pm in the polling for the Ludhiana West Assembly byelection in Punjab on Thursday. Polling began under tight security at 7am and it will continue till 6pm. The counting of votes will be held on June 23. The Ludhiana West assembly seat fell vacant following the death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi in January. There are 14 candidates in the fray and 1,75,469 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise. Of them, 85,371 are women and 10 belong to the third gender. AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora reached a polling station along with his family members to exercise his franchise in the morning. Before casting their votes, the Aroras paid obeisance at a gurdwara, a temple and the Dargah Pir in Phillaur. Speaking to reporters, Arora appealed to the people to come out in large numbers to vote. Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu, BJP nominee Jiwan Gupta and Shiromani Akali Dal's Parupkar Singh Ghuman also cast their votes. Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann took to social media to urge voters to cast their vote. 'My appeal to the voters of Ludhiana West is that you must exercise your right to vote. You must fulfil your duty for the development and progress of your area. Do not consider today a holiday, definitely go and cast your vote,' Mann posted on X in Punjabi. Ludhiana deputy commissioner-cum-district election officer Himanshu Jain also cast his vote in the bypoll. A total of 194 polling stations have been set up with live webcasting facility. Designated counters have been set up at the entrance of polling stations for voters to securely deposit their mobile devices. These counters were managed by trained volunteers using jute or cloth bag mobile holders. 'In a first-of-its-kind initiative, all polling stations in Ludhiana West have made arrangements for safe mobile phone deposit aims to enhance the voter experience while at the same time upholding the secrecy of voting,' the chief electoral officer, Punjab said in a post on X. Polling stations were equipped with poll volunteers, wheelchairs and help desk to assist voters, said officials. The voting process is being monitored in real-time from the integrated command and control centre at the district administrative complex. As many as 235 CCTV cameras have been installed at polling stations. The ruling AAP has fielded Rajya Sabha member Arora for the bypoll. Arora, 61, is a Ludhiana-based industrialist and is also known for his social work. He runs the Krishna Pran Breast Cancer Charitable Trust. The Congress has nominated former minister and Punjab Congress working president Ashu, 51. Ashu had been MLA twice from this seat in 2012 and 2017. He was defeated by Gogi by 7,512 votes in the 2022 assembly polls. The BJP candidate is a member of the core committee of Punjab BJP. Gupta was earlier the party's state general secretary. The Ludhiana West bypoll is seen as a litmus test for Mann and the ruling party's national leadership which aggressively campaigned to retain this seat.

Voting underway in assembly bypolls in four states, moderate turnout recorded till noon
Moderate turnout was recorded in the first four hours of polling across five assembly constituencies across Punjab, West Bengal, Gujarat and Kerala where bypolls are underway on Thursday.
