‘Buffy' Reboot Finds Its New Slayer: Ryan Kiera Armstrong To Star With Sarah Michelle Gellar In Hulu Pilot
Oscar winner Chloé Zhao is directing the pilot, written by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman. No additional information has been provided about the project, referred to as the next chapter in the Buffyverse, which comes from 20th Television and Searchlight TV. The character played by Armstrong is described in casting materials as an introverted high-school student.

There is some symbolism in Armstong's casting as Geller's spiritual successor — the actresses' names, Ryan Kiera Armstrong and Sarah Michelle Gellar, share the same cadence. But it was Armstong's acting chops that won her the role, Gellar said.
'From the moment I saw Ryan's audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side,' she said. 'To have that kind of emotional intelligence, and talent, at such a young age is truly a gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room'
Gellar also recorded a video of her breaking the news to 15-year-old Armstrong that she got the part. (You can watch it below.)
'I'm so honored, thank you for trusting me,' elated Armstrong said through tears when Gellar welcomed her to new Sunnydale. She was then joined by her father, Canadian actor-producer Dean Armstrong.
Lilla and Nora Zuckerman used some Buffy terminology to praise Armstrong.
'We are so overjoyed to have found this generation's slayer in Ryan Kiera Armstrong, she absolutely blew us away — there is no question in our mind that she is the chosen one,' they said.
Nora and Lilla Zuckerman executive produce the pilot alongside Gellar, Zhao via her Book of Shadows banner as well as the original series' executive producers Gail Berman of the Jackal Group and Fran Kuzui & Kaz Kuzui via Suite B. Also executive producing the pilot is Dolly Parton whose company Sandollar was producer on the original. Buffy the Vampire Slayer studio 20th Television produces with Disney sibling Searchlight TV, where Zhao is under a first-look deal.
Canadian-born Armstrong has been busy since her breakout role at age 8 in the feature The Art of Racing In the Rain opposite Amanda Seyfried. Following parts in IT: Part Two, The Tomorrow War, The Glorias and Black Widow, she played the lead in the 2022 Firestarter, the co-lead opposite Nicolas Cage in The Wold Way and a main role in WIldflower.
On TV, she started off with a major recurring role on Netflix's Anne with an E. Armstrong first got on 20th TV radar when the studio cast her as part of the main ensemble of FX's American Horror Story: Red Tide. She has worked for Disney ever since with a starring role opposite Jude Law on Disney+'s Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and recurring opposite Ethan Hawke on FX's upcoming The Lowdown. Armstrong is repped by Linden Entertainment and Innovative Artists.

Limited-edition Nipsey Hussle Metro TAP cards to be released
Metro Los Angeles is going to be releasing two limited-edition TAP cards to honor late rapper Nipsey Hussle. The release is part of the Metro x Culture series that aims to celebrate Angelenos who have shaped LA culture, "especially those whose journeys began on Metro buses and trains," the agency says. Nipsey Hussle, whose real name is Ermias Asghedom, was born in South Los Angeles. The Grammy-winning rapper was known for his community activism and entrepreneurship. He grew up in the Crenshaw District and often spoke about riding the Metro bus and train throughout LA. "His story is inseparable from Los Angeles—and from Metro, which helped carry him through the very city he gave so much to," Metro said. In 2019, he was gunned down outside of his clothing store, Marathon Clothing, located near the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson Avenue. Before his death, Hussle had plans to work with the police department to discuss ways of fighting gang violence. Metro says the cards will be released on Aug. 15, Nipsey Hussle Day. They also say there will be 12,000 cards in circulation and they will be available until they run out. The TAP cards will only be available to purchase in person. Places to get the limited-edition Nipsey Hussle cards: Metro will also be temporarily renaming the Hyde Park Station until the end of August to honor Hussle.

JKS Restaurants, Famed London Hospitality Group, Expands Stateside
Some of London's most acclaimed Indian food is making its way across the pond. JKS Restaurants announced on Wednesday, August 6 that the group will expand overseas with new outposts of two beloved Britain-born Indian concepts in New York and Las Vegas. This fall, The Ambassadors Clubhouse will open at the new A24 headquarters near Madison Square Park in New York City. Later this year, Gymkhana is set to open at the Aria Resort and Casino in Las Vegas Founded in 2008 by siblings Jyotin, Karam, and Sunaina Sethi, JKS operates 35 restaurants internationally — including Gymkhana, Ambassadors Clubhouse, Trishna, Brigadiers, Sabor, Kitchen Table, BiBi, Berenjak, Hoppers and Speedboat Bar. These projects will be their first in North America. 'We have had our sights set on the U.S. for the last ten years, wanting to make our entry with the right brands, in the right cities, at the right moment. Ambassadors Clubhouse and Gymkhana are expressions of who we are and we are excited to connect with a new community of guests," said Karam Sethi comments. Details including carpet patterns, ceiling features, marquetry and inlay details will pay homage to the Ambassador's seasonal residence, aslong with original artwork from Punjabi artists. Punjabi music will play in the dining room for a lively atmosphere while guests enjoy the splendor of a bygone era in Punjab's opulent royal kitchens. To drink, the cocktail program will focus on tequila and mezcal blended with regional ingredients; large-format cocktails designed for tables to share, playful shots, and interactive service. The original Ambassadors Clubhouse opened in Mayfair, London in 2024 at 25 Heddon St. New York's Ambassadors Clubhouse is slated for fall 2025 at 1245 Broadway in Manhattan. Gymkhana Las Vegas This winter, Gymkhana will open at ARIA Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Currently the only classic Indian restaurant worldwide to hold two Michelin stars, Gymkhana is known of London's most sought-after dining destinations, by culinary enthusiasts and celebrities including the likes of Dua Lipa and David Beckham. Inspired by private clubs in India, Gymkhana Las Vegas plans to offer another level of exclusivity to the Strip. The Las Vegas menu will feature many of Gymkhana London's signature Indian dishes, broadly focusing on tandoori-grilled specialties, classic curries, fragrant biryanis and chaat-style sharing plates. New dishes exclusive to the Las Vegas location will also be offered. The bar will feature Indian-inspired cocktails, including regional punches served tableside, and an extensive gin and tonic selection. "The culinary landscape of Las Vegas is constantly evolving and with that, MGM Resorts is primed to change and adapt through a forward-thinking lens," said MGM Resorts Chief Content, Hospitality and Development Officer Ari Kastrati.
