Cong indirectly blaming its booth agents: BJP

Bengaluru, Aug 9 (UNI) Former Karnataka Assembly Speaker and sitting BJP MP Vishweshwar Hegade Kageri today claimed that Congress leaders, in their criticism of alleged irregularities in the voters' list, were indirectly blaming their own party workers for failing in their election duties.
'Every booth has Booth Level Agents (BLAs) from all parties. Congress leaders -- Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar -- are effectively saying that their BLAs did not perform their duties properly. If there were any discrepancies, these agents — many of them Congress workers — should have flagged them immediately at the booth level,' Kageri told media.
Explaining the process, he said voter lists and slips are given to households before polling day through Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and BLAs, with signatures and forms collected for verification. 'We record exactly how many votes were cast and by whom. If irregularities existed, they should have been reported on the spot to the Election Commission (EC) or officials at various levels, not brought up later,' he said.
Kageri stressed that neither the BJP nor the Central government had any role in preparing or managing the voter list. 'If the Congress truly wants to establish the facts, they should submit documents to the EC in the format prescribed by its guidelines. The EC will take corrective action if mistakes are found,' he added.
Slamming Congress for raising the Bihar election issue nationwide, Kageri termed it an 'unpardonable offence' aimed at creating tension rather than preserving public trust. He alleged the party was 'misleading people through lack of information and misinformation.'
Accusing Congress of treating the Election Commission like a political opponent, Kageri said the party had already failed to play a constructive role as the Opposition in Parliament by repeatedly disrupting proceedings.
'Now they are trying to play the same role before the EC,' he said, urging the party to cooperate in ensuring transparent polls and to submit constructive suggestions to the EC or government.
Kageri accused Congress of systematically undermining the country's constitutional institutions, alleging that party leader Rahul Gandhi has been creating 'distrust' over the voters' list to discredit the Election Commission.
'Rahul Gandhi has, for months, been trying to sow doubts about our constitutionally established system. Whether it was releasing Karnataka's voters' list in Delhi, including that of Mahadevapura, or making claims about voter data in Bihar, his actions suggest that the very material he uses for political attacks is ending up in other hands,' Kageri told reporters.
He alleged that Congress 'has no faith in the Constitution, in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, or in democratic institutions,' citing the Emergency, press censorship, and judicial interference during the party's past rule. 'From creating doubts about EVMs earlier to now questioning the voters' list, Congress is attempting to weaken public trust in the system,' he said.
Defending the Election Commission, Kageri said it was an independent constitutional body working transparently and reliably. 'Our system is not person-centric or leader-directed, as Congress governance used to be. If there are flaws, there are procedures at every level to address them,' he said.
Kageri accused the Congress of using the Bihar voters' list issue to stoke suspicion nationwide, motivated by 'fear of losing.' 'They first said EVMs are faulty, now they say the voters' list is flawed — this is a deliberate attempt to undermine democracy,' he remarked.
The BJP leader further charged that the Congress government in Karnataka had 'increased corruption, stalled development, misrepresented minority issues, and lost the trust of the people.' He urged citizens to reject attempts to create mistrust in the democratic system.

INDIA bloc MPs to march from Parliament to Election Commission on August 11 over "vote theft" claims

Synopsis INDIA bloc MPs plan a march to the Election Commission, protesting the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar and alleged voter fraud during the 2024 elections, according to Congress leader Digvijaya Singh. Rahul Gandhi's claims of voter list irregularities prompted the Karnataka CEO to request supporting documents for investigation, particularly regarding allegations of a voter casting two ballots. ANI The INDIA bloc MPs will march from the Parliament to the Election Commission's office on Monday to mark their protest over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar and allegations of "voter fraud" during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, said senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh. Addressing a press conference, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh alleged that all the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are filling out "fake forms" in one said, "Rahul Gandhi has put forward such facts that no one can deny... The name of one person appears at multiple locations, including polling booths... Rahul Gandhi's demand is for electronic data of the voter list, which we can scan using software to determine how many votes have been cast on a single EPIC number... What is the reason for the SIR happening in Bihar? It was thoroughly tested in 2003, which took 2 years in Bihar, but this time they want to do it in 1 month...""All the BLOs are filling out fake forms in one room. The Election Commission says that so many people have died, but their list is not given... And tomorrow the MPs of the entire INDIA alliance, who are from all parties except the BJP and NDA alliance MPs, will march from the Parliament to the Election Commission's office..." he added. Earlier today, Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) asked Congress MP Rahul Gandhi to submit documents to inquire into his "vote theft" allegations against the Election Commission of India. In a notice issued on August 10, the Karnataka CEO stated that Rahul Gandhi has claimed to have documents presented during his August 7 press conference from the Election Commission of India records, alleging that a voter, Shakun Rani, voted twice based on data shown by a polling officer. The polling body further stated that upon preliminary inquiry, Shakun Rhas denied voting twice. The CEO's office also found that the tick-marked document presented by Rahul Gandhi was not issued by the polling officer, raising questions about the authenticity of the claim. The letter read, "In your Press Conference, you have stated that the documents shown in your presentation are from the records of the Election Commission of India. You have said: "This is EC data". You have also stated that as per the records given by the polling officer, Smt. Shakun Rani has voted twice. You have said; "Es ID card per do baar vote lagahai, wo jo tick hai, polling booth ke officer kihai"." "On inquiry, Smt. Shakun Rani has stated that she has voted only once and not twice, as alleged by you. Preliminary enquiry conducted by this office also reveals that the tick-marked document shown by you in the presentation (copy enclosed) is not a document issued by the polling officer," it added. The Karnataka CEO requested Rahul Gandhi to provide the relevant documents that form the basis of his allegation so that a detailed investigation can be conducted by the Karnataka electoral authorities. The letter stated, "Therefore, you are kindly requested to provide the relevant documents on the basis of which you have concluded that Smt. Shakun Rani or anyone else has voted twice, so that a detailed inquiry can be undertaken by this office."

Vote theft charge: Congress leader seeks digital data of voters' rolls from EC

Andhra Pradesh Congress Party Professionals Head Valluru Bhargav on Sunday demanded that the Election Commission of India release complete digital data of the voter lists in the wake of 'the exposure of vote theft by party leader Rahul Gandhi.' In a statement, Mr. Bhargav said that every citizen's vote value should be reviewed collectively across the nation. He said: 'With the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi exposing vote rigging in certain constituencies, the public is also expressing outrage over the conduct of the Election Commission,' and he urged the BJP government to intervene and demand that the Election Commission hold a 'Mann Ki Baat' on this matter, as the entire nation wants to know the value of their vote. He warned that for everyone involved in vote-tampering, the democratic alarm bell has now rung. Accusing the BJP government at the Centre of failing miserably in its foreign policy, he said now the ruling party leaders were trying various tricks to distract the attention of the people of this country from its series of failures. He warned that the public was closely watching the developments and that people would soon teach a befitting lesson to the BJP and its allies at the Centre.

Dipankar slams EC over revision of electoral rolls

Patna: CPI(ML) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya on Sunday accused the Election Commission (EC) of "daylight robbery" of votes through its special intensive revision (SIR) of Bihar's electoral roll ahead of the state assembly elections. He urged people to defend their democratic rights, describing the situation as "an open EC versus the people of India challenge." Bhattacharya linked his party's concerns to opposition leader Rahul Gandhi's expose of alleged "vote theft" in Bengaluru during the 2024 general elections. Referring to the EC's affidavit in the Supreme Court concerning removal of 6.5 million electors from Bihar's rolls, Bhattacharya said the EC had "stubbornly rejected" the court's advice to disclose supporting documents. He criticised the EC for inconsistent data releases during the SIR, highlighting jumps in numbers of 'probably deceased' electors from 1.43 million to 2.2 million and 'permanently shifted' voters from 1.97 million to 3.6 million. Bhattacharya also pointed out the unexplained decline in electors registered at several locations, alleging manipulation in the revision process.
