The govt plans to make it mandatory for buyers to show proof of parking for any new registration in the near future. It also plans to introduce new measures to reduce congestion on city roads.
A detailed presentation was made on the subject, followed by inputs from stakeholders. The road transport fraternity submitted a memorandum, where the core point discussed was the conversion of old octroi nakas in Mumbai—specifically Mankhurd, Mulund, and Dahisar—into

equipped with parking bays and EV charging stations.
"We proposed that the govt should go ahead with converting the octroi nakas into truck terminals where all the heavy goods vehicles will terminate and goods will be offloaded," said Bal Malkit Singh from All India Motor Transport Congress. "In future, only smaller vehicles will be allowed to load the goods at the octroi naka and bring it inside the city. These vehicles will also run on environmentally friendly fuel such as CNG and electric.
This, in turn, will reduce not just congestion on roads but also air pollution," Singh said.
"Converting existing idle infrastructure like old octroi nakas into modern truck terminals is a practical, cost-effective step toward a cleaner, efficient, and future-ready transport ecosystem in line with the Union govt's vision for Viksit Bharat 2047," Singh added.

Govt asks seafood exporters to explore new markets amid US tariff hike
New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) The government on Monday asked seafood exporters to "bravely face" the current challenge of high US tariffs and explore alternative markets to ship shrimps and other fish varieties. Addressing a press conference, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh said alternative markets are available for India's seafood exports. "The EU, Japan, South Korea, UK, Russia, Australia, West Asia, South East Asia and many countries are available for export of Indian seafoods," he said. "We have asked them (exporters) to face the current challenge bravely. There are alternative markets available... Where there is a will, there is a way," Singh added. The minister emphasised the need for improving value addition and packaging before reaching other markets. "We have told them that before reaching other markets, there is a need to improve value addition and packing. We have asked to work in this direction," he noted. Singh also asked exporters to take advantage of the Fishery Infrastructure Development Fund to upgrade and strengthen value-addition, processing and packaging facilities. To address export concerns, the Marine Product Export Development Authority (MPEDA) has been asked to meet exporters in four major producing states and help them prepare for new markets. The minister said MPEDA will help identify specific fish varieties, value addition, and modernising processing and packing infrastructure. "We had a fruitful meeting. Some positive suggestions were made," the minister said. Ministers of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying S P Singh Baghel and George Kurian, and Fisheries Secretary Abhilaksh Likhi were also present. When asked if exporters demanded a financial package to tide over the current difficult situation, Singh said: "A few days back, the Prime Minister had clearly said that we will not compromise on the interest of farmers. All exporters said they side with the PM on this issue and accept the challenge and look for new avenues." Exporters have identified new markets and have started exploring them, he said. More than 50 individual exporters and representatives of key fish-growing states attended the meeting. The minister said exporters have made certain suggestions to be included in the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) during the 16th Finance Commission. He said the government has come out with draft guidelines on fishing in high seas and Exclusive Economic Zones, and sought public comments within a month. "This will harness fisheries, especially tuna fish in Lakshadweep islands and Andaman and Nicobar and give a further boost to India's export," he added.

Transport dept proposes e-bus charging depot in Mysuru division
The transport department submitted a proposal to the Union govt, for the establishment of an e-bus charging depot at KSRTC Mysuru division to support its electric bus fleet. This dedicated charging infrastructure depot is proposed to be built on 4.5 acres of land at Banni Mantap, where KSRTC is constructing a new suburban bus stand using the land available at the sprawling bus depot. The facility is exclusively to support electric buses operating from Mysuru. It will have features like a charging station, e-bus parking lot, restrooms, and several other facilities. About 100 e-buses can park at a time once this facility is set up in Mysuru. Mysuru KSRTC division has bus depots in different areas of the city such as Vijayanagar, Sathagalli, Kuvempu Nagar, and Banni Mantap for its diesel-operated buses, but the proposed depot is dedicated to e-buses. The department sent this proposal to the Union govt as Bengaluru received 2,000 electric buses under the Pradhan Mantri e-drive initiative aimed at pushing sustainable and eco-friendly transport system. Another 2,500 e-buses are expected to join Bengaluru by the end of 2026. Mysuru KSRTC division also received e-buses under the scheme. Speaking to TOI, KSRTC Mysuru divisional manager HT Veeresh said that the department already sent this proposal for the establishment of e-bus depot in Mysuru, after identifying 4.5 acres of land available at Banni Mantap. The PM e-drive scheme initiated by the Union govt at a cost of ₹10,500 cr plans to roll out 14,028 e-buses across nine Indian cities, including Bengaluru, between 2024-26. The scheme also aims to build a network of 72,000 charging points in cities, including Mysuru, along highways to accelerate EV adoption. As the Union govt was also rolling out essential infrastructure such as charging hubs, depots, and related civil facilities to support the incoming fleet, an e-bus depot is also coming up in Mysuru, he said. This e-bus depot is a must for the charging hubs with huge electric plugs exclusively charging electric buses, which are fitted with 145-kilowatt electric motor capacity. This proposal also includes the establishment of charging stations in the city bus stand and KSRTC suburban bus stand, he said.
