Winner's Song Min-ho admits negligent military service. MMA hints high possibility of his reenlistment
Song Min-ho, a member of boy group Winner under YG Entertainment, may be required to reenlist for his mandatory military duty, following allegations of negligent service during his term as a public service worker.
The rapper admitted to most of the charges, including leaving his workplace during work hours without permission.
The Military Manpower Administration confirmed Wednesday that it would issue an order for reenlistment covering the period Song failed to serve, should the allegations be substantiated.
'We are aware that the investigation is still ongoing and no criminal ruling has been finalized yet,' MMA deputy spokesperson Woo Tak-kyoun told the Korea Herald. 'However, given that Song admitted to being absent from his assigned post during working hours, our stance remains unchanged: if misconduct is confirmed, a reenlistment order will follow for the unserved period.'
The police revealed Monday during a regular press briefing that it had summoned Song three times for questioning and had conducted searches and a probe via phone as part of its investigation.
'Song mostly admitted to being absent from his workplace without permission during working hours,' a police official said.
The rapper served as a public service worker at a community welfare center in Mapo-gu, Seoul, from March 2023 to December 2024, after being classified as grade 4 supplementary service in his physical examination.
However, during his service, allegations emerged that Song frequently left work without notice, took excessive sick leave, and was generally absent from his duties. The MMA subsequently requested a police investigation into the claims.
While YG Entertainment said that Song's sick leave was taken for medical treatment and that all other leave was used in accordance with regulations, the controversy escalated as new testimonies surfaced.
Concerns have also been raised about Song's duty records, as the workplace used handwritten attendance logs, making it possible for management to manipulate records at their discretion.
If found guilty of violating the Military Service Act, Song could be ordered to complete the remaining duration of his duty through reenlistment, with his discharge status canceled.

Winner to tour Japan after 6 years
Winner is planning to tour Japan for the first time in six years, label YG Entertainment announced Monday. The group will go live twice in Kobe on Sept. 28 and hit the stage in Tokyo on Sept. 30 for its 'In Our Circle' tour. The upcoming shows will be an extension of its July concert in Seoul. BLACKPINK to make full-group comeback this year
Girl group BLACKPINK will return with a new song featuring all four members later this year, the head producer of the group's agency said Monday. "We'll soon be able to announce news about BLACKPINK's new song," Yang Hyun-suk, founder and executive producer of YG Entertainment, said in a video posted on the company's official blog. Yang did not provide a specific release date. The upcoming single will mark the group's first release in two years and eight months, following its second full-length album, "Born Pink," in September 2022. The only exception since then has been "The Girls," an original soundtrack for a video game. BLACKPINK is set to launch a new world tour, titled "Deadline," with shows in Goyang, just northwest of Seoul, on July 5 and 6. Yang also shared release plans for other YG artists. Describing "Hot Sauce" as a "highly addictive hip-hop song with a late 1980s feel," Yang said, "It's a gift we're releasing in hopes that you'll have a fun summer." He added that the company experimented with how Babymonster, whose average age is in the teens, would interpret a classic hip-hop genre from four decades ago and was pleased with the result. Boy group TREASURE will release a new EP on Sept. 1 and begin a new world tour in October. Yang said the company aims to support the group in releasing more than two albums annually. YG Entertainment also plans to introduce a new four-member girl group and a new boy group next year. Starting Wednesday, practice videos of the girl group members will be released one by one. "Currently, YG has two boy groups and two girl groups preparing for their debuts," Yang said. "I definitely want to launch one boy group next year."
