Opportunity knocks for Haggas-trained colt at Goodwood
A 475,000 guineas son of Frankel out of dual Group One winner Izzi Top, the William Haggas-trained colt opened his account on his reappearance at Haydock and steps up in class for a race won by Troy in 1979 before his Derby success, when it was known as the Predominate Stakes.
'The plan is to go to Goodwood and find out whether he wants to put his hand up for Epsom or not,' said Richard Brown of Wathnan Racing, who own the three-year-old and have Dante runner-up Damysus prominent in the ante-post Derby market.
'This is going to tell us everything we need to know. I think we have got a nice horse on our hands, whether he is a Derby horse who knows, he will tell us on Saturday.
'It will be fascinating to watch it. Ralph Beckett has a horse in there (Amiloc) that I rate very highly and this will tell us everything we need to know about where we are going to go next.
'He's with the right man, William will know where to go.'
As well as the unbeaten Amiloc, Beckett also runs Sir Dinadan, fourth in the Sandown Classic Trial, with Paul and Oliver Cole's Seaplane, fourth in the Futurity Trophy to Hotazhell, in action following a wind operation.
Oliver Cole said: 'Seaplane is in great form and has been working very well. He shows plenty of speed, so the step up in trip is a bit of an unknown.
'However, his pedigree gives encouragement, being by Golden Horn and a half-brother to Sumo Sam, who won over a mile and six furlongs at Goodwood. The ground is also an unknown, but he's a very sound horse.'
Gary and Josh Moore's Too Soon was fourth in the Zetland Stakes, while John and Thady Gosden's Tycoon looks another promising type.
John Gosden said of Tycoon: 'It's obviously a jump in class for him, but we want to run him over this trip in a Listed race and the Cocked Hat is a race we've had a lot of success in.'
The Gosdens also run two in the BetGoodwin Height Of Fashion Stakes, both owned by Anthony Oppenheimer.
Robert Havlin rides Queen Of Thieves, a sister to Champion Stakes winner Cracksman, while Luke Catton keeps the ride on Star Of Light, by Frankel out of the Irish Oaks winner Star Catcher.
'Both fillies are very much in pursuit of black type – it's the last of the recognised Oaks and Ribblesdale trials and like a lot of fillies in the race, they're looking to get some black type and finish in the first three

O'Hare thrilled to support Tennis Black List awards
Inactive in tour events, Dublin's O'Hare represents the Irish Davis Cup team and currently serves as the coach for Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski, overseeing two US Open wins, two Masters titles and two Tour Final victories with a previous partnership between Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram. This year's edition of the Tennis Black List awards, presented in association with Dante Talent, were held during the HSBC Championships at The Queen's Club, London on the 11th of June, supported by the LTA, occurring concurrently with the WTA tournament, which made its return to West Kensington for the first time in half a century. O'Hare said: 'It's been brilliant to be here at Queen's at this ground-breaking event particularly with WTA tennis being back for the first time in 50 years. 'It's very special to play a part in the event in my role with Dante Talent who are proud to be sponsoring the 2025 Tennis Black List Awards. 'It's great to meet so many different faces and get to know so many different people. I'm travelling quite a bit with the guys that I coach so it's good to spend an evening in a room with like-minded individuals who are passionate about the sport. 'To have that in common is great, Dante's a fast growing company and we're really excited about what we have and how we can use our network to collaborate with as many people in the sport as we can.' Tennis Black List is the global celebration of Black and mixed black excellence across the game — spotlighting the unsung, the visionary and the next generation of changemakers. Taking place in the run up to The Championships at Wimbledon, the Tennis Black List recognises the contributions of individuals and organisations from grassroots level up to the professional game in Britain and internationally. It follows the example set by the successful and respected Football Black List, created by Leon Mann MBE and Rodney Hinds, and Rugby Black List which have demonstrated the power that celebrating black excellence can achieve in sport. The event was an opportunity to inspire the next generation in the tennis community, with the commitment shown by the winners on and off the court, including the legendary Arthur Ashe, who was honoured with the Icon award for his tireless efforts in advocating for social justice, racial equality, and HIV/AIDS awareness. Awards were handed out in ten categories across the evening at the ceremony, with several recipients present at The Queen's Club. Founders Anne-Marie Batson and Richard Sackey Addo said: 'This movement is about legacy. Tennis Black List is creating space for Black and mixed-black heritage excellence to be seen, honoured and remembered across all areas of tennis. We are building a global legacy that makes space for what is next.' Launched in 2023; Tennis Black List is the only global platform dedicated to celebrating and documenting Black and mixed-black impact in tennis — from grassroots organisers to elite players. A movement rooted in recognition, legacy, and cultural celebration. Co-founded by Jono Ward, Graeme Nicoll and Chris Eaton, Dante Talent is an innovative agency providing representation, guidance and support to athletes seeking to enhance their opportunities for success in their collegiate, athletic and commercial endeavours.
