30-year RWC celebration: SABC will cover 2nd Test between Boks, Italy live
In honour of the Springboks' first Rugby World Cup win in 1995, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) will broadcast the second Test between the Springboks and Italy live on 12 July.
The news came after an agreement was reached between the national broadcaster, SuperSport and the South African Rugby Union (SARU) on Thursday.
The match will take place at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha, kicking off at 17:10.
'The 1995 triumph was a moment that captured the attention of the world – revealing the unmatched power of sport to bring people together, to heal deep wounds and to inspire a country that was still finding its feet as a young democracy,' said SARU president, Mark Alexander at the announcement.
'As SARU, we are working closely with our broadcasters to ensure that all South Africans can be part of this historic occasion.'
Nomsa Chabeli, the SABC's Group CEO, said: 'The public broadcaster extends its appreciation to SARU and SuperSport for the spirit in which negotiations took place to enable us to broadcast this historic match.
'It is important that the SABC is not left out of key national sporting events, which bring the nation together, and rugby has been very instrumental in doing that.
'This agreement also highlights the reach that the public broadcaster has in universal access to the nation through its TV and radio platforms, as millions of South Africans will have an opportunity to witness this historic moment.
'We call upon all South Africans to tune in as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of our Rugby World Cup win in 1995.'
SuperSport CEO Rendani Ramovha said his company was honoured to be involved in the agreement.
'SuperSport is pleased to be able to contribute to the country's celebration of 30 years of Springbok excellence since that unforgettable moment in 1995,' Ramovha said after the announcement.
'That moment united the whole country, and we are honoured to be involved in helping unite the country once more around the Springboks.
'This year also marks 30 years of SuperSport as a stand-alone channel, and we are proud to share this milestone with the most successful rugby nation in men's Rugby World Cup history – the Springboks.'

That's exactly what the Castrol NWM Ford managed to do at this year's season opener in Bronkhorstspruit, with Gareth Woolridge and Boyd Dreyer securing a commanding victory and taking the early championship lead. The team's three-car lineup, now sporting a new white livery with Castrol branding (in place of the familiar blue), showcased exceptional speed with the NWM Evo Plus relishing the fast, dusty conditions. Gareth and Boyd entered the final stage with an 11-second advantage over their Toyota rivals, Saood Variawa and Francois Cazalet, but they could not rest on their laurels. They did the opposite and grew the lead by nearly three minutes to claim top honours. They crossed the line in fifth place, earning valuable points for the team while Prinsloo gets ready to return to action. The duo, multiple Brazilian Cross Country Championship title holders and 2019 South American champions, achieved a steady drive to finish seventh overall as they adapted to the local demands. The improvements we've made to the vehicle were clearly visible out there, and it performed flawlessly across some very tough terrain. While the Castrol NWM Ford Team celebrated a dominant victory, Toyota Gazoo Racing South Africa (TGRSA) also commenced their 2025 SARRC campaign with a podium finish. Saood Variawa and co-driver Francois Cazalet secured an impressive second place overall at the Renault KEC 400 event, marking their highest SARRC finish to date. They completed the event in 6 hours, 10 minutes, and 02 seconds, precisely 2 minutes 38 seconds behind the winning Ford NWM duo. Despite facing challenges such as two punctures and a two-minute penalty, Variawa was satisfied with the result. 'Still, it's a podium finish, my best so far in the championship, and I'm really happy with the team, the car and our performance.' Other TGRSA crews, like Guy Botterill and Oriol Mena, faced mechanical trouble, while João Ferreira and Filipe Palmeiro had an early retirement after landing in a river, fortunately without injury. With this strong start, the Castrol NWM Ford Team is well-positioned for what is anticipated to be a thrilling 2025 SARRC campaign. Johnny Eblen happy with PFL but left wanting more: 'Money can only do so much'
Many of the big names PFL acquired through its Bellator purchase late last year are now gone from the promotion. However, Johnny Eblen – the last Bellator middleweight champion – remains, perhaps the biggest name remaining from the Bellator crop. Eblen (16-0) is set to return to the PFL smart cage, inaugurating the promotion's PFL Africa wing – which is scheduled for July 26 at GrandWest Arena in Cape Town. He takes on Costello van Steenis (16-3) in his first PFL middleweight title defense. Considered one of the best fighters outside the UFC today, many have wondered about Eblen's contractual situation with PFL and whether or not he'll be the next man to leave for the UFC. Advertisement Speaking to MMA Junkie Radio, Eblen pulled back the curtain on his situation, going into detail of where he stands. "I have three fights left on the contract, this is one of three, the one I'm fighting at in South Africa," Eblen explained. "That's kind of where I'm at. It's my Bellator contract. It's not a PFL contract. I think they have matching rights for a year after. That's pretty much all I know about the contract they acquired. That's it. Either I fight it out, which I really doubt I'm going to get three fights by March 2026, or it expires, and technically I'd be able to see what's out there." Unlike Patricio Freire and Patchy Mix, Bellator champions who were released from their PFL deals after airing their grievances publicly, Eblen is happy with how he's treated by the promotion. He's happy with his compensation and is getting fights. However, he can't help but want to test himself against the big middleweights over in the UFC so he can prove to the world he's indeed the best at 185 pounds. Advertisement "I think it's better to have those conversations in private and see where that gets you before taking it to Twitter or X or Instagram," Eblen said. "But they've been feeding me well. I've been happy there. I'm not upset. The only thing that kind of frustrates me is that I'm only able to fight certain people, and I can't really extend outside of it and the odds of them bringing in people that make sense for me to fight to really raise the status of my stock, it doesn't look super probable. So, you know, that's kind of where I'm at with my relationship with PFL. "I really hope they do well because I think it's important for promotions outside the UFC to give opportunities to fighters. They're a great company, they've treated me well, they treat a lot of people well. A lot of people making a lot of money through PFL, they're great. But there comes a point in time, money can only do so much. I want to find out. I want to fight the DDPs and the Khamzat Chimaevs, and they're not in PFL."
