John Souttar makes Leon Balogun Rangers contract claim
The Nigerian's Ibrox deal expires at the end of this month, although his fellow central defender wants him to stick around: "Leon [Balogun] has done a great job this season, and it would be great to see him next year," he said.
Read more:
"He is a senior figure in the changing room, along with James Tavernier, he's a great person to have and we need senior figures like him in the squad."
Balogun has played 28 times for Rangers this season. Although he is 36 years of age, his performances rarely fail to meet the required standard.
It remains to be seen whether the veteran's contract will be extended going into next season, with vast changes expected in Govan this summer.
Indeed, Davide Ancelotti, son of legendary Real Madrid manager Carlo, has been linked with the permanent Rangers hotseat over the past 24 hours.
Fulham winger Alex Iwobi spoke of Ancelotti Jr's influence when he was at Everton in 2019.
He told the Filthy Fellas podcast: "I remember when he first got appointed. Everyone was just eating lunch and he's walked in. Everyone's just chatting. As soon as he's walked in, everyone was silent. Everyone was just looking. That was mad.
"We'd heard about it (the appointment) but when he actually walks in, his presence was mental."
Asked how much he could learn from the 65-year-old, he made the revelation about the Rangers-linked younger boss.
He added: "He comes down and he watches training. He does have his say but it's more his son that does the talking, obviously he will have his input as well.
"If you watch the games, you'll see his son always chatting to him."

Cyriel Dessers to AEK Athens latest as update emerges with ‘Rangers locked in transfer talks'
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) CYRIEL DESSERS looks set to move on from Rangers this summer after two years in Glasgow. The Ibrox club have been locked in negotiations with AEK Athens over a potential deal for the striker for a few days now, with the Light Blues looking to make a profit on their top goal-scorer from last season. Sign up for the Rangers newsletter Sign up 2 Dessers is closing in on a move to Greece Credit: Getty 2 He had several clubs on his trail in January Credit: Willie Vass Dessers, 30, still has two years left on his Rangers contract after penning a four-year deal when he arrived from Cremonese in 2023. Rangers spent around £4.5million to land the Nigerian striker from the Italian club and it's understood they are holding out for a fee of £5m before letting him leave Scotland during this transfer window. Dessers has been a divisive figure at Ibrox despite netting 51 goals in 109 appearances for the club - finishing this year's campaign with a Premiership tally of 18. New boss Russell Martin is planning to go in a different direction and is looking to cash in on the forward while he can. The former Southampton and Swansea gaffer is already lining up replacements, with Matija Frigan and Dor Turgeman in the frame. But as things stand Dessers is still very much a Rangers player. The Greek capital outfit have stepped up their efforts to land him this week but no deal has been agreed between both clubs as of yet, according to reports from Greece. Sportime journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos claims there is still work to be done before an agreement is reached but talks are progressing well. It's said AEK remain 'optimistic' they will sign Dessers before the window slams shut. We told you last month how Rangers were bracing themselves for bids for the frontman. AEK haven't been the only club in for him, though, as several clubs were understood to be chasing him in January. Dessers' agent even revealed he had offers from TEN different teams during the winter window, but he decided to stay at Ibrox. Shock at sudden death of NI football club's manager: ‘A great player and inspiration to all'
Latest | The local football community is in shock after the sudden death of a manager – days after he was appointed to a new role. Michael Kerr – one of the most successful players and managers in junior football in Northern Ireland – passed away yesterday. The 40-year-old, a father of three, died at his home near Florencecourt in Co Fermanagh. A death notice said he was a dearly loved husband and a devoted father. Mr Kerr, who was appointed as manager of Beragh Swifts last week, helped Enniskillen Rangers to three Mercer League titles and four Junior Cups. Neil Jardine, chairman of the Fermanagh & Western Football League, has led tributes. He said everybody connected with the league was 'deeply shocked and saddened'. 'Michael was associated with local football for over 25 years, from his time with the then Fermanagh Milk Cup team, through playing spells with Enniskillen Town United, Ballinamallard United, Monaghan United and of course Enniskillen Rangers,' he said. 'Michael took over as player-manager of Rangers as they emerged from a period in Division 2 & 3 and as the facilities at the Ball Range opened. 'In that time he led them to three Mercer League titles, five Kennedy Cups and four Irish Junior Cups including becoming only the third team to win three in a row since the inception of the competition in 1887. 'After stepping down from the Rangers job in 2021, Michael still contributed by winning the club's first Mulhern Cup since 1999 as a player. 'Retirement was short lived as he took up the reins again for the start of the 2022-23 season. 'In September he led the first side from the North to win the IFA/FAI President's Cup, officially becoming All-Ireland champions. 'In 2022 and 2023, Michael managed the Fermanagh & Western Select side against Sligo & Leitrim District Soccer League, leading the team to wins in both games and firmly re-establishing the value of the representative game after a long break. 'Whilst we remember Michael's achievements in the local game, which stand alongside many of the greats to have graced our league, our immediate thoughts and heartfelt sympathies go out to his wife Donna and their three young daughters, his parents Dessie and Dee and sister Michelle along with the extended families.' Enniskillen Rangers, the club that Mr Kerr led to so much success, described him as a legend of the local game. 'We have lost a club legend, but more than that, we have lost a true friend,' the club said today. 'Ironically, his passing took place on the same afternoon the club had gathered to celebrate his outstanding achievements. There will be a time in the future to reflect on and record Michael's achievements in football and his life." Another of Mr Kerr's former clubs, Ballinamallard, also paid tribute. 'Michael was great footballer and inspiration to all involved around him at any level of the game,' the club said. 'Michael enjoyed spells with the Mallards at Youth level and in the Championship. 'Of course his time in management with Enniskillen Rangers Football Club speaks for itself.'

Rangers deny rule breach over Brown's 'corrupt' comment
Rangers say they "firmly deny any breach of Scottish FA rules" after the club's former defender, John Brown, called a refereeing decision "corrupt" on Rangers SFA has confirmed to BBC Scotland that a notice of complaint has been issued to the Scottish Premiership runners-up regarding the incident on 17 the final match of Rangers' league season, they felt they should have been awarded a goal when Nicolas Raskin appeared to bundle the ball over the Nick Walsh and his on-field officials thought the ball had been kept out by Hibernian defender Rocky Bushiri and VAR Andrew Dallas ruled that there was no camera angle that proved Raskin's effort had gone equalised through Kieron Bowie moments later, with the match finishing said on the club's in-house TV channel: "I would say it is corrupt."Commentator Tom Miller replied: "Well, I'm not sure we can actually say that." However, Brown added: "Well, I am saying it."Rangers subsequently demanded the introduction of goal-line technology. The Glasgow club say they are "surprised" by the charge over Brown's comments and they will "continue to challenge any action we consider to be unfair or disproportionate".The SFA rule states: "A club or recognised football body which publishes, distributes, issues, sells or authorises a third party to publish, distribute, issue or sell a match programme or any other publication or audio/visual material of any description in any media now existing or hereinafter invented, including but not limited to the Internet, social networking or micro-blogging sites, shall ensure that any such publications or audio/visual material does not contain any criticism of any match official calculated to indicate bias or incompetence on the part of such match official or to impinge upon his character."Rangers note that four out of five members of the SFA's Key Match Incident Panel deemed the decision to be incorrect, adding that they have "serious concerns about the Scottish FA's selective enforcement and inconsistency"."That finding helps explain the nature of a spontaneous emotional comment, delivered during a highly charged moment and immediately challenged live on air," Rangers add."We have highlighted multiple examples of similar or stronger remarks made elsewhere in Scottish football that have led to no charges or sanctions."While we remain committed to maintaining high standards, we will continue to challenge any action we consider to be unfair or disproportionate."
